Late Breaking System z Events:
Linux on System z Live Virtual Class: Integrating x86 workload into Linux on
System z environments
Event date: Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 12:00 PM ET, 17:00 UTC
Developed for: Linux Customers - IT Manager, IT Administrator, System Administrator, IBMers,
Business Partners
Technical level: Intermediate
Abstract: The IBM zEnterprise System is a multi-architecture compute system capable of hosting
many workloads integrated together. The Unified Resource Manager provides integrated systems
management for platform resources, virtualization and workload entities. The application
integration of Linux on System z embraces this paradigm and provides common operations for
Linux on x86 workload in the context of Linux on System z environments. Execution of x86
applications takes place transparently and under control of Linux on System z, and management
of processes, userids, file systems, packages, and other resources is unified and centered on
Linux on System z. This Live Virtual Class gives an introduction to the concept of application
integration.
