Dear Friends,
There’s so much going on at ERfC!
We’re excited about new initiatives:
offering family literacy activities
during our popular Summer Lunch
Bunch program, recruiting retired
teachers to volunteer to help kids
who need extra help after school, and
expanding the number of activities in
Afterschool Adventures.
Frequently though, kids have needs
that go beyond academics. We
understand that some families have a
tough time providing nutritious meals
in the evening when their kids get
home from school. While kids have
access to school lunch, they may not
have enough to eat the rest of the day.
National initiatives to combat food
insecurity have focused on increasing
participation in after school meal
programs. At our Hazardville SchoolAge Center, we started a supper club
this past year. We also hope to pilot a
year-round initiative, Healthy Meals Healthy Minds, to combat food
insecurity.
ERfC has seen the impact food
insecurity has on our students:
decreased ability to concentrate, high
obesity rates, poor school attendance,
and lower grades and test scores. We
recently partnered with Enfield Food
Shelf to design the Healthy Meals
program so that children and families
have the food they need to succeed in
school and lead healthy lives.
I’m sharing our news with you
because we need your help. Many of
the projects I’ve told you about are
provided free of charge – our mission is
to make sure all Enfield kids can
thrive.
We hope that when you receive this
newsletter, you will say “yes” to a
generous gift because you know how
much Enfield kids need your support.
Thank you for your
continued support!

KidZ Write in Afterschool Adventures
Keeping with ERfC’s goal of providing expanded learning opportunities
after school for Enfield kids, students in grades 1-5 produced, illustrated,
and published several books during the school year.
Working with published author J. Monkeys, students learned about
parts of a story, character development, and how to set scenes that
make sense in the story. As a group, the kids determined the theme of
the story, decided on the characters, their personalities, and situations
the characters would experience throughout the story.
The published books, now available for purchase at Amazon.com
include: “Stuck in Dreamland”, “Becky and the Magical Necklace, “The
Bathtub Battle”, “Trouble at the Nasty T-Shirt Factory”, “From Emerald

ERfC INCOME & EXPENSE CHARTS
In 2014-2015, ERfC piloted a new
Dinner Club for students enrolled at the
Hazardville Memorial School-Age Center.
Hazardville Memorial School is the only
school in Enfield that qualifies for this
free program as over 50% of the students
qualify for free/reduced school lunch.
More than 36 students participated from
April through June. Free USDA meals
were provided daily by the CT Renewal
Team in Hartford. The Supper Club will
continue in the current school year.
Making new friends . . .
A Year in Review
ERfC experienced rapid growth in 2014-2015, providing a range
of out-of-school time (OST) learning opportunities for Enfield
children. While we are continuously learning and evaluating our
programs, we believe a coordinated approach with our families,
the community, and our funders brought promise for building and
sustaining improvements in our OST opportunities.
ERfC receives United Way funding through the Community
Investment choice. When you choose Community Investment
you are supporting organizations like ours that are demonstrating
measurable results changing people’s lives in our community.
At this juncture in ERfC’s development, the year was focused
on evaluating ERfC’s infrastructure and staffing with the goal of
building a business model for sustained financial health. The fiscal
year ending June 30 resulted in diversified revenue streams
to strengthen the organization as it grows.
