2013-2014
Life School Families,
On behalf of the Life School team, I would like to welcome our students back to school! We are celebrating our 16th year of
serving families in Dallas and Ellis Counties. For those of you who are returning, we welcome you back. For those new to our
district, we are honored that you have joined the Life School Family. We are excited about the year and ready to help your
students reach their full potential by preparing them with life skills for the future. The team has worked extremely hard this
summer to prepare the campuses and classrooms for your scholars.
Here are just a few projects completed over the summer:
LSCH - Phase 3, a 15,000 square foot building with 10
core classrooms, allows the campus to grow to the 6th
grade. The elementary science lab will allow students an
authentic hands-on experience as they conduct experiments and work on projects.
 LSMC – New Campus. Projectors in each of the 10
classrooms and a new computer lab.
 LSOCE - The elementary science lab will allow students
an authentic hands-on experience as they conduct experiments and work on projects.
 LSOCS - Career & Technical Education Lab allows
students to gain real world experience in audio and visual
production. Other minor repairs and upgrades to lighting,
bleachers, and landscaping were completed.
 LSROS - Career & Technical Education Lab allows students to gain real world experience in audio and visual
production.
 LSLC - Installation of (2) computers in every classroom will allow daily student use in addition to designated
computer lab time.
 LSROE - Projector installation grades 2 & 3 classrooms
for the enhancement of student learning.

Since it started in 1998, Life School has recognized parents as the “primary educator”. This means that Life School reinforces
the valuable character and leadership lessons you teach at home. Our teachers are also committed to partnering with you in
the education of your children. The partnership we share is what makes Life School such a special place for families. Thank
you for choosing Life School for your children. I would like to take this opportunity to invite each of you to our Leadership
Breakfast hosted at your campus in the month of September. Please come and receive an update of the exciting programs we
now offer for your students.

Partnering Together to Make a Difference
People make a difference. As I reflect back on the past sixteen years here at Life School, I remember numerous individuals that have
poured their heart and soul into this organization, shaping it into the successful district it is today. What makes Life School great is the
collaboration of staff, parents, and students. We know from experience that partnering together always makes us better and stronger.
As we begin a new school year, I reflect on the lives of my two children, Graham and Macy. As they now both attend the Red Oak Secondary campus, I think back to the incredible teachers and other staff who included Melody and I as they taught our kids. I am so
thankful to the men and women who serve at Life School each and every day with a passion for excellence. My children are better
because of them. Be sure to express your appreciation to our staff next time you see them.
As a long time member of this organization, I know that we make mistakes, and we don’t claim to be perfect. Take my word for it, we
are our biggest critics. We have a burning desire to strive for excellence in all that we do. As we continue to improve and make Life
School a better place, we’re looking for new ways to serve our families and offer new opportunities.
I am excited about the new academic programs and services that we are offering this year, especially for our secondary students. The
September Leadership Breakfast is the perfect time to share these new programs with you, our parents. Some of these programs were
requested at last year’s breakfasts and we want to hear from you again! Be sure to mark your calendars. We look forward to seeing you
there.
Scott Fuller, Chief of Staff
Justin Burns has served as K-6 PE teacher at Life School Red Oak and JV Basketball and Cross Country and
Track coach for Life School Red Oak Secondary for five years. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science
degree in Physical Education from Western Kentucky University in 2003 and is a member of Texas High
School Coaches Association, Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, and American Alliance for Health,
Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. Justin believes teachers have the ability to influence and direct
students through relationship. Because of this he often takes his wife and three daughters around his
students so they can see him as a positive role model, not only in coaching, but also as a husband and father.
He feels the most important things he can teach his students include having a good work ethic, positive
character, and upright leadership at home and in the community. Justin is married to Kyra (also a teacher) and they have three daughters;
Scout, Pearce and Jentry.
District Secondary Teacher of the Year Bradley Davidson
Bradley Davidson has taught Special Education English at Life School Red Oak Secondary for two years. He
graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2007 and has experience teaching Resource ELA, Applied Skills
Social/Behavioral, Applied Skills Reading, and JH/HS Applied Skills Dyslexia. Brad never planned to be a
teacher, but as he substitute taught while seeking a career in acting, he discovered fulfillment, especially
when he succeeded in helping students overcome obstacles. Brad says he has never been more proud than
when five of his Applied Social Skills students used their painful experiences of being bullied at another
school district into a skit and presented it to hundreds of elementary students at Life School campuses. Brad
feels that every student has the ability to achieve at a high level in the classroom. He believes if he provides
a safe learning environment, innovative and creative teaching methods, and just enough encouragement and inspiration, his students will
thrive. Brad is married to Rachel and they have a one year old daughter.
District Staff Member of the Year Wendy Scott
Wendy Scott is the receptionist and the first person parents and students see when they arrive at Life School
Cedar Hill K-6th grade campus. She enjoys assisting with communication between parents, students, and
teachers and believes it is the most helpful thing she does in her position. Wendy says she feels privileged to
work where children are encouraged to become active in their communities and to develop strong character
qualities as well as excellence in academics. Wendy says, “I am privileged to work at and get paid for what I
love. My passion for people and my overall joy for life are being used daily in my position at Life School.”
Wendy is also active at her local church and volunteers at various charities in her community. She has two
children; Samantha, 14, and Josiah, 8.
District Facilities Member of the Year Carlos Chinchilla
Carlos Chinchilla has been an employee of Life School for four years. Within that time he has served with the
Facilities Departments at the Lancaster and Oak Cliff campuses. He has consistently shown enthusiasm in
whatever task is assigned to him and everyone enjoys working with him. Carlos says he enjoys the working
environment at Life School and feels that he fits in well among his peers. In his spare time, Carlos enjoys
volunteering with his family at his church. He is married to Maria, and they have two small children, 6 year
old Carlos Emanuel, and 3 month old Kayla Emily.
