HORT 250 - Restoration Ecology, 4 Credits
Time: Fridays, 8:00-11:50am
Location: FIR 107
Course Description: Introduction to the principals, philosophy and practice of restoration ecology
through the lens of several key restoration issues in the Puget Sound region.

LEARNING OBJETIVES
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Distinguish the role of ER relative to other forms of land management.
2. Understand the ecological foundations of restoration.
3. Recognize the importance of social values and processes in ER.
4. Describe the principal restoration issues affecting ecosystem quality, social regulation, and
economic development in the Puget Sound.
5. Critically evaluate restoration goals and practices based on material presented in class and visits
to restoration field sites.

Assignment and grading policies:
 No late assignments accepted unless prearranged with instructor
 Ask for explanation/guidance well in advance of assignment due date
You will be assessed according to your ability and effort in meeting the requirements of the class and
successfully completing the assignments. The highest assessment will be awarded to those students who
complete their assignments and exams with the greatest degree of thoroughness, accuracy, and
comprehension.
Attendance Policy:
Contact instructor ahead of time to arrange for makeup or notify instructor by e-mail immediately after
for makeup work. You will lose points for missed class discussions and incomplete assignments.
Scholastic Honesty:
The Horticulture Department values student honesty and integrity. Consequently, questionable situations
are taken very seriously. Any action will be dealt with under the "Student Rights and Responsibilities" in

STATEMENT ON ACADEMIC INTEGRITY*
Edmonds CC students shall demonstrate Academic Integrity. I am expected to report all violations of
Academic Integrity (cheating and plagiarism) to the College. The College's database of such incidents
will be monitored by the Office of the Vice President for Student Services. Data will be maintained for
three years. Evidence of repeat incidents will result in additional action by the Office of the Vice
President for Student Services as governed by the Student Code of Conduct. In this class, cheating and
plagiarism will result in an assignment or grade penalty ranging from 10 to 50 points. A second incident
in this class will result in an assignment or grade penalty ranging from 20 to 50 points.
