Dengue Fever is a viral disease usually accompanied by fever, headaches, bone, joint or muscle pains and rashes. Must I be hospitalised? Most cases are mild and can be managed in the outpatient setting with close monitoring. What is Dengue Outpatient Management (DOM)? DOM clinic manages dengue patients who meet a set of criteria safely without the need to be admitted to hospital. By attending DOM clinic daily, dengue patients will: • Receive daily blood checks similar to a patient admitted to the hospital • Receive advice on managing dengue from registered nurses • Receive daily updates of the full blood count (FBC) result from registered nurses • Have easy access to advice via phone consultation In the event that you require hospital admission, your doctor or nurse will inform you and make the necessary arrangements. (Example: Use mosquito repellent or mosquito coils) • Watch for bleeding. Inform your doctor or nurse when you have this: o Gum bleeding o Bruises • Seek medical advise immediately if you have these symptoms: o Sticky black stools o Fresh blood in urine or stools o Vomiting of blood o Unable to drink o Increased menstrual bleeding o Severe abdominal pain o Drowsy or feeling of near faint • Avoid medication containing aspirin • Avoid anti-inflammatory drugs such as brufen or nurofen (ibuprofen), voltaren (diclofenac), synflex (naproxen) or ponstan (mefenamic acid) Charges include: 1. First visit consultation by specialised doctors 2. Daily full blood count (FBC) 3. Daily symptoms assessment by registered nurses 4. Daily blood investigation update via phone by registered nurses 5. Patient education on managing Dengue Fever by registered nurses Payment after the first visit can be done every three days or upon discharge. (whichever earlier) If other investigation or procedure is required, charges are itemised accordingly as per standard hospital charges. Payment can be done using cash, nets or credit card.
