 Dean’s Fellow Job Description | 2016-­‐2017 Overview Yale-­‐NUS College is Southeast Asia’s premier liberal arts and science institution, and was founded in 2011 as a collaboration between Yale University and National University of Singapore. We are seeking applications for the Dean’s Fellow position from seniors and recent graduates of liberal arts & science colleges who are passionate about working with students, faculty and staff to cultivate a strong sense of community, support student success, and further develop the College’s programs. Applicants come from a wide range of backgrounds and intellectual interests, and no prior international experience is required. For the 2016-­‐2017 academic year, we intend to hire between 10-­‐12 new Dean’s Fellows who will begin their one-­‐year fellowship in July 2016. Responsibilities Dean’s Fellows are the guides, mentors, and advisors for the Yale-­‐NUS student body. In such a young and growing institution, the Dean’s Fellows serve as a role model for students while contributing to the development of the College’s programs and initiatives. The Dean’s Fellow position requires a high level of responsibility and flexibility; fellows should expect to have many evening, weekend and holiday commitments when students are in residence. Furthermore, Dean’s Fellows may need to travel internationally to support and lead co-­‐curricular programs/trips. Essential duties include: • Full-­‐time residence in one of three residential colleges at Yale-­‐NUS. • Participation in the Dean’s Fellow training program and orientation activities in July/August 2016. • Advising and mentoring a group of undergraduate students, collaborate with advisors and faculty to support student success in and out of the classroom. • Participate in the “on-­‐call” rotation schedule and provide assistance to students in case of emergency. • Collaborate with Dean’s Fellows, faculty/staff, and other offices to develop community building within the residential college. • Serve as a part-­‐time College Administrator or Research Associate. Fellows will be matched to an associate position based on specific interests, prior experiences, and institutional needs. • Assist with College-­‐wide programs and events throughout the year. Associate Positions In addition to advising and providing residential support to students, Dean’s Fellows also hold Associate Positions in which they are matched with either an administrative unit or area of research in the College. The Associate Position is intended to offer Dean’s Fellows the opportunity to pursue their professional and intellectual interests in such a way that contributes to the broader work of Yale-­‐NUS College. Prior associate roles have included the President’s Office, Academic Affairs, Health & Wellness, Foundations of Science curriculum, Writer’s Centre, Diversity & Inclusion, and Study Abroad. 1 Eligibility & Requirements While each Dean’s Fellow brings different skills and experiences to the role, we are seeking applicants who have held leadership roles as undergraduates and/or invested themselves in their own college communities. Specific eligibility requirements include: • Recent college graduate with 0-­‐3 years of professional experience. Students graduating in Spring 2016 are encouraged to apply. • A strong interest in the liberal arts and sciences • Prior experience with student & residential life (i.e. Residential Advisor, Freshmen Counselor, Athletic Teams, Student Gov’t) • Demonstrated undergraduate leadership experience and an ability to mentor and advise younger students • Eagerness to engage with a diverse community across different nationalities, cultures, religions, ethnicities, and beliefs. • Creative and flexible thinker who can bring a proactive and team-­‐oriented approach to solving problems • Prior international experience is helpful, but not required. Benefits & Support Dean’s Fellows are provided with a one-­‐year contract, with the option to renew for a second year. Dean’s Fellows begin work in Singapore on 1 July 2016. Each fellow receives competitive compensation, on-­‐campus housing in a furnished suite, a full meal plan during the semester, generous vacation allowance, 2-­‐3 international travel assignments per year, access to professional development opportunities, use of College facilities (gym, library, etc.), health/wellness support services, and a comprehensive health insurance plan. Dean’s Fellows are also eligible for flexible HealthChoice benefits and reimbursement for mobile phone usage.
