Human Ecology students come to the college with deep
interests in community engagement. Below are Human
Ecology specific organizations in which students participate
to further develop their academic interests and goals and to
be good citizens of the college.
Human Ecology Peer Partnership Program was created to help
incoming students of color with the transition to the college and
university. Small groups of freshman and transfers, usually about
6-8 students, are partnered with faculty and upper class students.
They meet weekly for discussions, guidance, and explorations of
the Cornell campus and community.
American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) is a community
of people driven by a common love for design and a commitment
to the belief that interior design as a service to others, is a
powerful, multi-faceted profession that can positively change
people’s lives. Through education, advocacy, community building
and outreach the society strives to advance the interior design
profession and, in the process, to demonstrate and celebrate the
power of design.

Association for Students of Color (ASC) unites Human Ecology
students of color to provide a supportive foundation for their
enrollment, retention, graduation, and career placement. ASC
members work toward these goals by participating in on-campus
hosting programs, high school visitations, and sponsoring alumni
career forums. Members provide volunteer services to the Cornell
and Ithaca communities and host annual fall and spring events.

Cornell Fashion Collective (CFC) was formed to provide
students interested in designing apparel an opportunity to express
their creativity outside of the classroom by producing a fashion
show each spring. Concerned with all aspects of professional
presentation, the annual show provides a creative outlet for those
interested in graphics, photography, and theater production. A
majority of CFC fashion designers are part of the Fiber Science &
Apparel Design Department, but the organization welcomes fulltime students from all Cornell majors and schools.
Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) has a Cornell
chapter that consists of a group of students and faculty interested
in human factors and ergonomics. The organization, based in the
Department of Design and Environmental Analysis, plans and
coordinates events and activities that include invited speakers,
practical demonstrations of ergonomic design principles, and field
trips. The chapter contributes to the CUErgo website and has
established an information library in the DEA Resource Center.

International Facility Managers Association (IFMA) helps
students who are interested in the field of facility planning and
management explore the profession and stay current with the latest
issues in the field. Chapter activities include speaker events, field
trips, and joint meetings with other professional association
chapters. Student members also have access to the IFMA research
library, scholarships, educational events, and IFMA publications.

service organization that supports health, nutrition, and wellness
on the Cornell campus and in the Ithaca community. Members
produce a campus-wide newsletter about health and nutrition
called Mastication, hold fundraisers to benefit organizations such
as Loaves and Fishes, a local soup kitchen, and to donate food to
GIAC, an after school tutoring program. The organization goals
are to provide opportunities for students to interact with the
academic community by organizing Faculty-Student Coffee hours
and to collaborate service efforts with other health-oriented student
groups. Health Nuts is open to all Human Ecology students.
Orientation Committee recruits, trains, and supervises student
orientation staff members in support of our new students.
Committee members plan recruitment, and design and conduct
training during fall and spring semesters. During August and
January orientation periods, committee members lead the student
staff as they play critical roles in welcoming and assisting new
Human Ecology students.
