Also, it had the best atmosphere and campus facilities of the universities I attended for open days. I’m only one and a half years into my degree and I have already created a major financial model to complete a valuation of Fortescue Metals Group (FMG). I’ve also had the opportunity to meet many contacts from the financial sector within the mining industry, including the CFO of FMG. Last semester I competed in the CFA Research Challenge as part of a team for ECU, and we came in 3rd – it was an invaluable learning experience. Besides getting a preview of what their future career might be like, students were given the opportunity to make strong connections with industry. TOURISM STUDENTS JOURNEY THROUGH SABAH Tourism and Hospitality students from ECU embarked on a ten-day journey through the land of Sabah to acquire knowledge and experience on ecotourism. The lecturers knew a lot about the industry and had many contacts within it. In my last semester I got an industry prac placement with the Fremantle Dockers Football Club in the Events Department. Due to my positive work ethic I was offered (and accepted) employment on a casual basis. When Fremantle made it to their first ever home preliminary final, it was so exciting to be a part of it all! On the Thursday before the finals I was suddenly asked to fly over to Melbourne to fill in for a permanent staff member – it was such an honour to even be considered and a great feeling. Over in Melbourne at the Grand Finals, I was in charge of managing security, caterers and audio technicians. All the skills and theory I picked up in my years at ECU helped me play a part running the biggest function the club had in many years – the Fremantle Dockers first historic grand final. It was an amazing experience. I would definitely recommend ECU to friends or family. 18 Online Provides an introduction to the sport industry and focuses upon application of the key aspects of marketing, sport delivery systems and organisational management.
