The ADCL promotes community development and the personal growth of students through advising and supporting student groups, close collaboration in orientation planning, implementing educational and wellness initiatives, overseeing the commuter don and academic mentorship programs, providing training and development to student leaders, and through daily interaction with the student body. Under the direction of the Dean of Students and in collaboration with the Division of Student Services, the ADCL will work in close cooperation with the St. Michael’s College Student Union (SMCSU), the Orientation Coordinators, the Assistant Dean of Residence Life, Campus Ministry, the Registrar’s Office, and the Kelly Library. The successful candidate will have an understanding and willingness to support the mission of St. Michael’s College as a Catholic College federated with the University of Toronto. Duties & Responsibilities Collaborates with Orientation Coordinators and student staff in the planning and organization of SMC’s Orientation Week. Monitors the day-to-day execution of Orientation Week with a special concern for student safety and protecting the College from reputational harm. Oversees and directs our student academic mentorship program for first year students. Develops and implements student life initiatives that promote awareness and education on areas of interest to the university community. Ensure that the Catholic mission of the College is enhanced by the programs of the Division of Student Services. Educates student groups on USMC and UofT regulations and policies in the planning and execution of student life events Coordinates and provide training and professional development to student leaders through the SMC Lead conference. Oversee and directs all aspects of the Commuter Don program Assists the Centre of Community Partnerships and other community partners to organize and provide volunteer and service learning projects for students. Works with the Career Centre in creating programs for SMC students that assist students in the transition from university to the work world, as well as from undergraduate to graduate studies (e.g. Grad Week). Acts as SMC representative for the UofT Co-Curricular Record; oversees organization, submission and validation of all activities for St. Michael’s College Represents SMC on UofT committees related to student involvement, student leadership, and student life programming. Works collaboratively with SMC’s Division of Student Services in the delivery of student life programming Performs on-call duties for the SMC Residence when the Assistant Dean, Residence Life is unavailable. Qualifications Formal Education: Bachelor’s degree or acceptable combination of education and experience. Experience: A thorough knowledge of university culture is essential (student, faculty, administrative and alumni). Two years prior experience working with and advising student groups/organizations; demonstrated experience in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating co-curricular activities; experience with residence students and providing on call support an asset. Experience with Catholic institutions preferred. Skills: Proven leadership skill and a demonstrated understanding of and respect for a student centered, multi-cultural milieu. Demonstrated project management skills with an ability to meet deadlines and manage a competing set of priorities with equanimity and efficiency. Excellent written and verbal communication supported by computer skills which include word processing, knowledge of Mac / PC Environment, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and desktop publishing an asset. Other: Knowledge of various offices and resources available for student referral at the university and in the larger community. Tact, sensitivity, initiative, flexibility, enthusiasm, ability to work independently; excellent interpersonal skills. Working Conditions: Open office.
