REFRIGERATION CYCLE DEMONSTRATION UNIT

1/5

INTRODUCTION

A Refrigerating machine is system known as closed (energy exchange with the external medium and not exchange of matter) which one can deduce the state by thermodynamic variables, or variable of state. It is intended, by absorbing energy, to remove heat with bodies at low temperature and to yield it to other bodies at higher temperature.

Calorific phenomena combined with mechanical phenomena constitute the branch of commonly called thermodynamics. The principle of energy production by vapor compression is the mode of production of cold energy more spread, and is defined by a vaporization of refrigerant during the absorption of heat and a condensation at the time of the rejection of heat, the recompression of the vapor being ensured by volumetric or centrifugal compressors. The cycles such off has machine is composed by 4 phases: the vapor compression, condensation, relieving off the liquid and vaporization, this one two levels distinct of pressure.

By a concerned approach of clearness, this bench sensitizes the students & users with the concept of a cold store with vapor compression, made up of exchangers with water laid out like their representation on a diagram H versus P. the study relates to the analysis of the refrigerating circuit, measurements leading to the layout of the refrigerating cycle on the diagram enthalpic, calculations of the powers to the exchangers and the energy balance of the unit.

The first and second principles of thermodynamics are thus illustrated.

UTILISATION

The equipment is composed of a transparent unit edged with anodised aluminium and elevated on feet. The transparent walls allow visibility on all sides whilst protecting both the equipment and its users. Once plugged in and connected to the water input and output, the machine works automatically. The visible condensation and evaporation allow for the understanding of the cycle processes. Once the machine has reached steady state, measurements can be taken and can be used even after the machine has been turned off.

The fluid used is R134a which is universally accepted by the new European regulation.

The regulation is controlled by a thermostatic depressure valve of equalized internal pressure . The unit allows for measurement of flow rate, pressure, temperature and more, depending on the option chosen. The fluid enthalpy chart is transposed onto a transparency at the centre of the unit allowing for rapid analysis of the fluid state parameters at any given point.

0°C, temperature of gas aspired +32°C - Fluid: R134a.

- Cubic capacity: 2,42 Cm3

- Inlet 1/4 ″ , Outlet 3/16 ″ .

• Safety pressure controller mark Danfoss, combined High&low pressure with manual rearmament

• Safety valve tared with 14 bars (200 psi)

Manometer High Pressure, scale -1/30 bars (-15/430 psi), graduated in temperature, technology anti-pulsation. Precision class 1.

• Water Condenser with grill out of glass and spiral copper tube. Heat-transferring surface: 425 cm 2

• Dehydrator mark Danfoss, 1/4 ″ , capacity 7 gr of water for 0,07 bar (1 psi) of differential pressure at T evap. -15°C, T cond. +30°C.

• Refrigerant Flowmeter, with magnetic transmission, all the parts in contact with the refrigerant are out of stainless 316L. Precision class 4. Scale direct in the process conditions en ml/mn.

• Refrigerant Indicator mark Carly with humidity indicator 3/8 ″ .

• Expansion valve thermostatic mark Danfoss, with equalization interns pressure.

• Water Evaporator with grill out of glass and spiral copper tube. Heat-transferring surface: 425 cm 2

• Manometer Low Pressure, scale -1/+10 bars (-15/150 psi), graduated in temperature, technology anti-pulsation. Precision class 1

• Instrumentation: 6 (7 for the reversible cycle) temperature precision Class B type Pt100 Ω at 0°C are laid out in fixed telephone on the places characteristic of the circuit, directly in the refrigerant for a measurement of precision like on water with the exchangers. They are posted on an indicator 6 entries with rotary selector. 2 antivibratory dial pressure gauges are installed on the compressor for measurements of the 2 isobars. Two float flowmeters indicate the water flow rate in the condenser & the evaporator, their flow is adjustable by a valve of the punch type.

These are the flows which determine the value of the pressures and thus make change the cycle, the coefficient of performance… Casings of the banana type of safety to double insulation allow the measurement of the terminal voltage of the compressor as well as the consumed current, this by a provided numerical multimeter.

See the options on last page for other types of measurement.

• Electric Cabinet answering the norms in force, buttons powering and walk/compressing stop, differential circuit breaker.
