Course Outline 2015 INTBUS 307: INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT AND STRATEGY (15 POINTS) Semester 2 (1155) Course Prescription Examines theories and practices of management in a cross-border context. Focuses on strategies and their implementation in international markets and how management changes when done internationally. Programme and Course Advice Prerequisites: INTBUS 201 OR INTBUS 202 OR INTBUS 210 or INTBUS 201 Restriction: INTBUS 303 Goals of the course This course aims to enable students to critically analyse the international environment and consider the crucial factors that influence international management and crossborder strategy formulation and implementation. This course examines the critical aspects of international strategy and management including international strategy formulation and implementation, cross-border collaboration, learning and innovation, global interdependence, cross-cultural management, international human resource management and organisational behaviour. Content Outline International strategy: foundations and frameworks Foreign market entry and strategy “tripod” perspectives Internationalisation and SMEs: a New Zealand perspective Creating worldwide innovation and learning Engaging in cross-border collaboration Implementing the strategy in an international context Culture and cultural intelligence The multinational corporation Expatriation and repatriation Communicating across cultures Cross-border mergers and acquisitions Learning and Teaching The class meets for three hours each week. Students are encouraged to participate and contribute during lectures. Independent learning is assumed and necessary.
