INTBUS 307: INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT AND STRATEGY

Course Prescription
Examines theories and practices of management in a cross-border context. Focuses on
strategies and their implementation in international markets and how management
changes when done internationally.

Goals of the course
This course aims to enable students to critically analyse the international environment
and consider the crucial factors that influence international management and crossborder strategy formulation and implementation. This course examines the critical
aspects of international strategy and management including international strategy
formulation and implementation, cross-border collaboration, learning and innovation,
global interdependence, cross-cultural management, international human resource
management and organisational behaviour.

Learning and Teaching
The class meets for three hours each week. Students are encouraged to participate and
contribute during lectures. Independent learning is assumed and necessary.

available on Cecil. A good background reading on international management and
strategy are Transnational Management: Text Cases and Readings in Cross Border
Management by Christopher Bartlett and Paul Beamish, 7th ed. New York, NY:
Irwin/McGraw-Hill, 2014 and International Management: Culture, Strategy and Behavior
by Fred Luthans and Jonathan P. Doh, 9th ed. Irwin/McGraw-Hill, 2015.
International Business Strategy: A New Zealand Perspective (2013) by Joanna ScottKennell and Michele Akoorie is an excellent e-textbook emphasizing New Zealand
perspectives. Global Strategy (2014) by Mike W. Peng (3rd edition, South-Western,
Cengage Learning, Mason, OH) is a comprehensive textbook on global strategy.
