PALS is a Positive Ageing Program aimed at promoting healthy, active ageing and social inclusion. The program provides older members of our community with information on social activities and health issues. Any adults aged 55-plus who live in, work in, or visit Monash can participate. Most of the activities are FREE however some events may include a small cost. For more details, see inside this booklet. How to book Please read through the booklet and choose the events and activities that you would like to participate in. For each listing, there is a telephone number or email address for bookings. Please use the details under each listing to book in to that event. Please note: many of the events have a cap on the number of participants. Monash Council may be able to assist with your shopping. Council’s assisted transport service visits selected shopping centres within the municipality. This is a low-cost, door-to-door service that provides two hours of shopping at the shopping centre nearest you and the driver will even carry your bags to the front door! If you are an older person or a person living with a disability and you qualify for Home and Community Care (HACC) services in Monash you can be assessed for this service. On Tuesdays through to Fridays, a specially designed trailer is attached to the bus so that shopping jeeps can be used. Alternatively, you can carry on to the bus up to three bags (two shopping bags and one insulated bag) weighing no more than three kilos each. Join a Planned Activity Group! Using a Community Care bus, our staff gather participants for the below activities. Italian Groups Our members are interested in retaining their Italian heritage. The emphasis is on creating a forum where attendees can meet and freely exchange views, recipes and experiences drawing from their heritage. Day trips are the norm, as participants are entertained every second Monday and Wednesday by visiting Italian retailers/groceries/small goods and fresh produce outlets. Golden Girls This group of women has established many friendships and great rapport over the 15 years they have met at Alvie Hall, Mount Waverley. You can keep active within a friendly and fun environment by joining them over Morning Tea, Bingo, Indoor bowls and other activities. In addition, there are outings on the first Tuesday of each month. Multicultural Groups All groups have the opportunity to visit different destinations where they will participate in inspiring and enriching cultural activities. Be moved and appreciative as you come across many unique languages, performances, arts and music. Learning and exploring different cultures helps bring new ideas and perspectives. This group meets every second Wednesday. Out and About Meeting each fortnight on a Thursday, this group is very active in the community. Attendees are independent and keen to travel around Melbourne and its surrounds. Kerrie Road Group at the Neighbourhood House Every second Thursday, the centre caters for low key activities, as part of a program that provides leisure time in a less formal environment. Participate in quizzes, bingo and general group discussions. Active Community Care This weekly one hour program, held on Thursdays at Clayton Recreation Centre, is designed to improve balance, and encourage confidence and a better sense of wellbeing. This program is fun and highly sought after. Council’s Delivered Meals Service, sometimes referred to as Meals on Wheels, provides home delivered meals to residents who, because of frailty, disability or ill health, are unable to prepare a meal on their own behalf. Meals are delivered either chilled for reheating at a later time or hot for immediate consumption. A variety of delicious meals is provided including special dietary meals such as diabetic, vegetarian, reduced fat and vitamised.
