GRADE 4 Name: There are 23 auxiliary verbs. An auxiliary verb is a helping verb that helps the main verb. For example We are playing (are is the auxiliary verb). The “Big Three” auxiliary verbs are “be,” “have” and “do” in all their forms. That includes: be, been, am, is, are, was, were, have, has, had, do, does, did. 1. Play auxiliary verbs musical chairs You will need: chairs, singers, someone to stop the singing Instructions: • First learn the song above fluently • Choose a group of singers and a musical director to stop the singing immediately • Arrange chairs in a circle • Learners circle the chairs while the singers sing. As soon as the musical director stops the singers, they sit down • Anyone who doesn’t have a chair is out • One chair is taken away each time 3. Write sentences In your class workbooks, make sentences with each auxiliary verb mentioned in the song.
