What is Pommie Travels?
The term pommy, pom or pommie, in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa,
commonly denotes a person of British (usually of English heritage) origin – (Wikipedia)
Written from the perspective of a British solo female traveller,
Pommie Travels is a useful travel resource packed with
destination advice. The site was established in July 2009 and is
now one of the most popular travel blogs on the web. I have been
nominated for “Travel Blogger of the Year” at the British Travel
Press Awards (twice!), as well as being nominated for “Best
Female Blogger” in the Skyscanner ‘Bloscars’. In October 2013 I
won the ‘Highly Commended’ award in the Best Travel Blog
category at the Cosmo Blog Awards.
The site offers:
Ø Feature articles providing inspiration and tips on things to do
for a wide variety of destinations.
Ø Thoughts from my own personal travel experiences.
Ø Practical travel advice and money-saving travel tips.
Ø Reviews of flights, accommodation, tours and travel gear.
Ø Blogging tips and technical advice for new travel bloggers.
Ø Simple travel guides to worldwide destinations.
Ø Encouragement for solo female travelers.
Ø A mixture of photography, videos and written content.
Who Am I, and Why Work
with Me?
I’m Victoria Brewood and since 2008 I have
been travelling the world. I’m from
Manchester in the UK, and graduated with a
2.1 BA (Hons) in Broadcast Journalism from
the University of Leeds.
After leaving university I decided to pursue
my passion for travel, so I packed my
journalism degree into my suitcase to work
remotely and live a location independent lifestyle. More recently I have
become ‘semi nomadic’ and now live in Manchester but still enjoy taking
shorter trips several times per year.
These are some of the things I’ve done:
Ø I have visited 44+ countries.
Ø My home base is in Manchester UK, but I still spend a fair bit
of time traveling abroad, writing about my experiences.
Ø I was a finalist for ‘Travel Blogger of the Year’ at the 2012
and 2013 British Travel Press Awards. I also won the ‘highly
commended’ award for ‘Best Travel Blog’ at the Cosmo Blog
Awards.
Ø My Youtube entry video won me a place on the World
Nomads Vantastic competition to video a 6-week road trip
around South Australia.
When you work with me you get more than just a travel blogger:
Ø I’m a Forbes Travel Guide Correspondent at Startle.com and
an Expedia Blogger.
Ø I am a freelance writer, and I also manage the social media
and blogs for several individual clients.
Ø I am a trained Broadcast Journalist with experience in
television/radio news, documentaries and online journalism.

Why Work With Travel Bloggers?
Ø While newspapers and magazines are ephemeral in nature,
travel blogs and online magazines remain on the Internet
indefinitely. A blog post with great content and the right SEO
is discoverable on Google for years to come.
Ø As we move into an increasingly digital world, consumers are
looking to the Internet for news, information and
entertainment. Travel blogs will only become more popular as
travellers look to the web for inspiration.
Ø Travel bloggers usually have many skills in addition to their
written abilities. A travel blogger can be a writer, a
photographer, a video producer, a social media expert, a
public speaker and a web designer all rolled into one.
Ø Travel bloggers are social media savvy and usually have a
strong following on Facebook and Twitter. They engage
directly with readers and travellers on a more personal level,
meaning they are more likely to influence your target market.
Ø Each travel blogger has their own unique story and
personality, and as a result, readers tend to listen to what the
blogger has to say. Travel bloggers are usually great at
storytelling, and offer truthful reports of first-hand travel
experiences.
