The saying is true: “A day feels like a lifetime, a lifetime feels like a day.” In this case it we can use the same saying for a year. This is a time to allow us all to reflect on what God has been doing here at Pineland this past year, and also to help us look forward to what God will continue to do through us as we walk faithfully with Him. I am thankful for the many opportunities God has given us to grow in the ministries that we have throughout our community and neighbouring communities, opportunities such as Car Free Street Festival, which allowed us to reach out to our community with the Gospel and to make God’s presence and our own, known in our community. I’m grateful for being able to partner with local churches such as Burlington Alliance to help our community and display the glory of Christ in it. I’m thankful for the opportunities we have had to bring the Gospel to our streets and parks. I am amazed by God’s work in raising up young men who seek God and who aspire to take on leadership roles here. I’m thankful for the continued ministry to the seniors through the many senior residences in our area and through committees. I am encouraged to see how even during this time of transition, Pineland still aims to be a light bringing the Gospel to our neighbourhood. I continue to be humbled by those who faithfully serve and contribute to the ongoing ministry and life at Pineland. I am also thankful for God bringing Pastor Wally to us and how he faithfully preaches the gospel and the encouragement he is being to the leadership of Pineland. The list can go on and on, so as we look back, I have two questions for you: What are you thanking God for as you look back on 2015? What are you seeking God for as we move into 2016? As you read the reports and summaries of what has happened this year, be sure to take time to thank God and praise Him for what He has done at Pineland. Also, continue to pray for the ministry leaders as you read through their reports. Take the time to thank our ministry leaders for their service and continue to pray for them as the new year begins. Let us continue to pray for our Search Committee as they first submit themselves before God and as they humbly seek the man that God has already chosen for Pineland. Pray for that man's family as they will also be transitioning. Pray for our Elders and leaders as we continue to lead and seek God’s will for Pineland. As we enter into 2016, my heart’s desire and prayer is that we would be a church that makes, matures, and multiplies disciples of Jesus Christ. Please pray with me as your Elders and Pastors continue to strive to be a church that makes disciples. 2 Timothy 2:1-2 Nathan Klahsen 2 Associate Pastor of Care Report (Pastor Don) 2 015 has been a good year of service, for me at Pineland continuing in my half-time schedule which I began in 2014. How quickly the weeks have flown by. 55+ Alive Again it has been a joy and blessing serving with the 55+ team. Joan Visheau, Chair, Carol Dumouchel & Marg Sylvester, not to mention Ron, Larry and Judy who, also, give great support. As you read Joan’s report, you will note we had good monthly attendances and did a couple different events this year, like a visit to Stratford, a Live Play, “Sound of Music” (and a visit to the new Denny’s restaurant); a Remembrance Day Service, thanks to Barry Thorp, Don Yager, Jim Harding and Larry Sylvester, for their participation. Global Mission Team This year the Global Mission Team welcomed Jacob Leavitt to the team. January to June – Missionary videos from Paul & Melissa Ewing, Roman & Vicki Gehring, Bud & Lois Fuchs were shown in our Sunday AM services. We rejoiced to see Cassie Blundell take training and spend 6 weeks in Haiti, serving with “Teens International”. Great to see God raising up future leaders in our midst with a heart for Missions. As we look forward into 2016, we welcome Tom Ryan, of the Elder Board, to become the new chair replacing myself. We also will say goodbye to Naomi Asuncion and Heather Carless after 4 years of faithful service. Thank you Ladies for your leadership and help on our GMT. We look forward to adding several others interested in GMT. Jorge & Marta Sedaca, also our missionaries, have served in our midst in a variety of ways, speaking and music in Sunday services, teaching ladies groups and sponsoring this year’s Chosen People Conference at Peoples Church with featured speaker Joel Rosenberg. I, personally, enjoyed taking their 6-day evangelism training course this past July – called Shalom Hamilton. The East Burlington Churches The East Burlington Churches met monthly this year at Appleby United Church. An average of 60-66 Seniors enjoyed meals, the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Pineland ladies attended regularly with Carol Dumouchel preparing 2 meals on behalf of Pineland Baptist. Rose Amor, served monthly on the Planning Committee and Pat Dyche served at the meals as a table greeter and friend. It has become a wellplanned, volunteer organized community ministry to seniors, church and non-church folks. While the meals are free to community attenders, every month has been covered financially with accurate records being kept by Mr. Richard Hardwick. Sponsoring Churches of this monthly event are Appleby United, Holy Cross Lutheran, Pineland Baptist, St. Elizabeth Anglican and St. Patrick Catholic. Caring for Seniors Judy and I, along with Doris Hall and Janice Kuzub, have continued monthly Chapel services at Burloak Extended Care on Sundays and Appleby Place on Wednesday. We began a new and enjoyable activity this past year, to Appleby at their request, providing a hymn sing, the 2nd Sunday afternoon each month. Special thanks to Pat & Bill Moody, J.P. and Gail Cormier, Bill & Bev Beck, Judy Clark and Joan Visheau, who have volunteered and given good leadership. The residents and staff are very grateful to Pineland. We praise God for these open doors of outreach and service in our Seniors Community. Pineland Visitation One of my greatest privileges is the weekly visitation of Pineland folks, especially our Seniors. It’s also wonderful to see many of our Seniors doing visitation to shut-ins, on behalf of the Sunshine Committee 3 and others who just do it. As the needs and people tend to change, the ongoing marvelous recovering of Ken & Sheila Markowski’s son, Shawn, has been miraculous. We praise God together for answering prayers and recently for Jill & Tom Provencher’s grandson, Hudson. This year as a church family we said goodbye to Dr. Roy Clark, Norma’s husband and to Betty Thomson, Doug’s dear wife, and to Morris Russell’s wife, Morag, long-time friends of Pineland. The 3 services were a great testimony to God’s grace. Discipleship Group Finally, the Men’s Saturday, 7:30 am, discipleship group; completed studying 2 books in 2015. 1 Peter and 2 Timothy. Mark Petersen has assisted me in leading at least 1 study each month. It is great to see these men sharing their faith regularly and this year, seeing Mark’s friend, Boris, place his faith in Jesus Christ and now the follow-up begins. In 2016 we will begin a new study in the Gospel of John. Please pray for Clive Hamilton, Gord Clark, Mark Petersen, Paul Chin and Scott Dryden to grow in grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. May 2016 be a great year seeing the mighty hand of God at work in our midst to guide and provide for His glory. Pastor Don Clark 4 Moderator’s Report D ear PBC family, let’s pause together, and reflect upon God’s goodness to us this past year. Let’s also prayerfully wait upon Him to fulfill His perfect will, in the year ahead. As a Church Family, and as individuals, we may face uncertainties of one kind or another, but Isaiah 40:31 speaks to our uncertainties this way: ‘But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint’ At the time of this writing, we are still waiting upon the Lord to send us a full time Lead Pastor, even as we search for His hand, pointing the way. Be assured that your PBC Search Committee is mindful of Isaiah 40:31! Be reminded that we cannot rush the process, if we are waiting for His leading. We are blessed, and truly thankful that the Lord sent us Pastor Wally and Anita. Pastor Wally began as Interim Lead Pastor in January of this year, and we have been truly blessed by his gifted preaching and teaching. Pastor Nathan has taken on a more significant role this past year, in terms of vision, structure, planning, preaching and teaching. Pastor Don faithfully continued doing visitations and overseeing Global Missions team. The PBC Elders are in need of your prayer support, because of many challenges. Some Elders have to ‘strike the balance’ between family, careers and serving as an Elder. Some Elders are officially retired, and have more time for shepherding the flock. Shepherding the flock is no simple task, and as already asked, please pray for your Pastors and Elders. Most of you have already a letter or other communication from ‘Your Elder’. Your Elder’s role is defined in Scripture, take a look at Ephesians 5:25-29, Colossians 3:1-17, I Timothy 4:14-16, and elsewhere in Scripture. In application, each Elder will focus on ‘his group’, be it visits, spiritual counseling, phone calls, a cup of coffee and whatever else is useful in building up the Body of Believers. The groups were defined by ‘family name’, and the group’s Elder chosen by ‘casting lot’, so that no Elder handpicked the group he would shepherd. Pray also that the Lord will speak into the hearts of potential new Elders. Constitutionally, PBC could have as many as 10 Elders. We are thankful for the many volunteers at PBC. Elders, Ministry Leaders, Team Members, Teachers, Musicians, Audio/Video operators, Care to Share, and all the other unnamed volunteers. We thank the Lord that PBC membership did not decline sharply during this ‘transition year’. But as we know, the Lord is not looking for mere church members and attendees. Instead, He is looking for ‘a harvest of righteousness’ (Hebrews 12:11) He’s commanded us to love one another (John 13:34), He’s commanded us to share the message of Salvation (Mark 16:15) and He’s commanded us to feed the hungry. So lets remain steadfast, ‘being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus’. (Philippians 1:6) Reported by Mike Brown Moderator, PBC Board of Elders 5 Church Clerk’s Report W e have seen God’s faithfulness this past year as a church. 3 people have chosen to join Pineland Baptist Church and 3 persons have been baptized this year. A bit of a recap: When this ministry was first formed, its prime function was to help PBC members who were in financial difficulties. But over time, there became less of a demand from within PBC, for which we thank the Lord! But as everyone knows, in the midst of apparent wealth in Burlington, there is much hunger, not only for the Word of God, but also for food. The Care to Share Committee focuses on those with little to eat. This ministry stopped being reactive, and contacted two of the local food banks. One is Salvation Army, and the other is Compassion Society of Halton. At that same time, the committee began moving away from just handing out canned foods and dried pasta. Instead, because lines of communication were established with the above mentioned food banks, the committee purchased what they were most in need of, at any given time. This works because they have refrigeration, enabling them to receive all kinds of fresh or frozen foods. The folks serving in this ministry are; Susan and Rick MacAulay, Bill and Pat Moody, Marg Sylvester, Joan Millar, Clive Hamilton, Pat Laidlaw, Peter Boyd and Mike Brown as chair. Their names are given, so that you can privately approach, to either donate, or receive the kind of help mentioned above. The committee is guided by a strict code of confidentiality and trust; so do not hesitate to ask for help, or to offer help. Cash flow issues: As cash reserves were trending low in the fall, a direct appeal was made to the PBC Church Family. Unfortunately, despite donations of dried and canned food, the need for cash donations is greater than ever. So to be very explicit, this is another appeal for cash. It’s simply a matter of marking on your offering envelope or cheque, the portion to be designated to Care to Share. The PBC treasurer will ensure that the money is appropriately directed. As already mentioned, Care to Share is also ready and willing to help those of the PBC family who need help. The designated portion of your offering is tax deductible, so go for it, help the needy! Sorry, Care to Share cannot accept any kind of perishable food. Thank you and God Bless Mike Brown, Chair of Care to Share 8 Men’s Weekly Bible Study: A ll men, young or old, married, divorced or single, are invited to the weekly Bible study. It’s held in the PBC library, and begins at 7:30 pm, every Monday except during the summer months, also there is a second short break over the Christmas season. The objective is simple; to encourage each other in the studyof the Word of God, to be guided by it, to pray together, to fellowship together, so that we grow in our faith, as we grow and mature as men of God. The study format is simple; one of our men will be designated ‘leader’ or ‘facilitator’. His function is not so much as a teacher, but rather as a guide. Typically, the area of Bible study is set in September when the new ‘season’ kicks off. Each man is required to spend some preparation time at home, so he can share with each other, whatever was learned, either from the group study, or from his own reading at home. On a typical Monday evening, there could be as many as 12 men participating. At the end of each night’s study and prayer, there is a short time of refreshment and sharing. Again, there is a standing invitation to all men, regardless of age or marital status! Bob Pring Men’s Monthly Breakfast: T his monthly event, is held on Saturday mornings, The dates are listed on the PBC monthly calendar of activities. The breakfast is served in the PBC fellowship hall, at 8:30am, for a nominal cost of $5. By any measure, it’s a full breakfast; eggs, bacon, sausage, potato, toast and juice. As part of the Saturday morning experience, there is some singing; sometimes a few testimonies; prayer and sometimes we even have a guest speaker. You can bring your son a friend or a neighbor with you. At some point during each summer, we have a special breakfast, to which ladies are invited, and there is no charge for the ladies. Attending one of these breakfasts does take away from your normal Saturday morning activities, because we tend to be done no later than 10:am. So please join us for breakfast! Feel free to speak with any of the leading participants in PBC Men’s Ministry; namely Gerry Willard, Bill Beck, Larry Sylvester, Alan Prescott or myself. We would be happy to have you just come and ‘check things out’ and hopefully keep coming back. Thank you and God Bless Bob Pring 9 Nursery Report T he Nursery continues to be a busy place. As God's Blessings are growing and therefore increasingly independent, we are again relying on just two nursery volunteers on Sunday mornings. I am also providing a schedule quarterly as appose to four times a year, this seems to be working just as well and is less work for me. This year we have added a new CD player and blinds in the nursery. I would like to say a big thank you on behalf of our little ones and their parents to our dedicated volunteers, you are truly needed and appreciated. We would also like to thank those who donated to the nursery. Please contact me if you would like to serve in this ministry, a rewarding position and an opportunity to get to know other members. The nursery is open Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings for Family Night and Thursday mornings for Mom's Morning Out. Submitted by, Vanessa Lokos Junior High (Grades 6 – 8) Teaching: rom January through June, Matt and Kimberlee Franklin taught a series of messages entitled “Holy Vocabulary” where we explored words that are used commonly in church but that we may not know the entire meaning to. Carrie Baayen and Marlene Knill provided snacks and led fun games. Dave Knill spoke once a month answering questions the junior high children placed in an anonymous box. F From September through December, Matt and Kimberlee Franklin began a new series of messages focusing on women of the Bible. Carrie Baayen continued to lead games. Kimberlee and Carrie alternated bringing snacks. On average, we had 7 children attend Wednesday nights in the spring and in the fall. Girls Nights/Guys Nights: Once a month, the female leaders spent an afternoon/evening with the girls and the male leaders did the same with the guys. Examples of some events were movie nights, snacks and chatting at a leader’s house, paint ball, and shopping. Bedlam: In November, Kimberlee and Carrie took three girls to Muskoka Woods to the junior high retreat, Bedlam. The theme was “Living the Dream”. The girls learned about discovering what God’s “dream” or plan is for their lives and striving each day to fulfill His will. Stick Team/Sign Language Team In December, the girls and leaders performed a stick and sign language number to the song “O Holy Night”. We hope to continue doing performances throughout the year. Working on this performance truly bonded the girls and leaders and helped us bring in some new junior high children from the neighborhood. 10 Senior High (Grades 9 – 12) I t has been a pleasure, as Steph and I lead the high school students, to watch God work in their lives. God is continuing to mature these young men and women so that they may grow up to be men and women who love Him with all they have. This is my ongoing prayer for these students. It is also encouraging to see how they have been getting involved in leadership roles here at Pineland. They are seeing that they aren’t the future of the church, but they are part of the church. Throughout this year, the high school students have been meeting on Sunday night to walk through different parts of the Bible and learning Bible study methods. We started by going through Romans and are finishing up this year going through John. It’s encouraging to see how the students are being equipped to study God’s word and continue to grow. My prayer is that as we continue to study God’s word, it would turn from text, to theology, to an outpouring in their lives. We have also had the opportunity of going to SnoCamp this past February. During the summer, at Family Camp, we had the opportunity to see two young men publicly proclaim their faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour as they were being baptized. This is always an encouraging time to see how God is working in students’ lives. Please continue to pray for our students as they strive to live for Christ in an ever changing world. Pastor Nate 11 VBS Report A t this year’s VBS program, we had an energetic group of children and leaders go on a snowy Everest adventure where together we learned about the mighty power of God, and how we can HOLD ON to him. Each day, we focused on a specific way God has shown his power. On Day 1 we learned that God has the power to PROVIDE! On Day 2 we learned that God has the power to PROTECT! On Day 3 we learned that God has the power to HEAL! On Day 4 we learned that God has the power to FORGIVE! On Day 5 we learned that God has the power to LOVE US FOREVER! Campers formed small groups called “crews” and rotated with their leaders to the various sites. At every site, whether it was the music, science gizmos, games, Bible story, snacks, or missions theater, we were strengthened in our knowledge of God’s power and encouraged to hold onto Him in every situation. Some children took on the challenge to commit to memory a few short Bible verses that reflected each day’s lesson. Many children participated in our missions project by contributing toiletries, towels, and linens to Helping Hands, a Christian organization in Hamilton that supports individuals in need. Many individuals at Pineland offered a great deal of support to help everything come together – by giving their time, resources, gifts, talents, and especially by being faithful in prayer. Through these different acts of service, we had the great privilege of seeing God do what only God can do. He answered prayers, He provided our needs, and He led us each day. And we trust that His work in our lives will continue! Our ultimate aim through this ministry is to bring glory to His name alone, by providing a fun and safe place for children to begin the greatest adventure of all – a relationship with our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. Please continue to pray that God would grow to full maturity the seeds of faith that were planted in the hearts of so many children this past summer, and that they would know the incredible power of his love. Love in Christ, Amanda Stoner 12 Kids’ Awana Club Report We are excited to be running an AWANA program again this year. Each night maintains a strong focus on Bible memory and includes competitive games, and a large group teaching time. We are thankful to see a growth in numbers this year and have seen both an increase in kids from our community and other churches in the area. With the ministry focus of clearly sharing the gospel regularly, this has allowed us to do so with more kids. One exciting aspect that was added this year is the AWANA store. Kids earn AWANA bucks by memorizing Scripture and participating in the games portion of the night. Once a month they can then redeem these for prizes at the store. We have found this to be a great motivating factor to help them memorize Scripture. We are really thankful to God that He has brought new leaders and that those from previous years have faithfully continued. This year, mainly for administrative reasons, we have not continued with prayer partners. However, we would love to have you continue praying for kids and this ministry as we share the good news and hide His Word in our hearts. Mike Stoner Junior Church Report W e are delighted to see the Lord blessing the junior church ministry this past year. Some great changes were initiated in September 2015. We are very pleased to have added another age group. Along with this addition we have created names for each group. The groups are now known as JAM, CIA and FBI. JAM stands for Jesus and Me. This group is for our children ages 3 to grade 1. In this group our children are taught all about Jesus and what they mean to Him. The CIA group is for grades 2 to 4. CIA stands for Christians in Action. In this group our children are taught a deeper level of faith and how to put their faith into action. The topics here include: How to Study the Bible, How to Worship God, How to Make Good Choices, How to Walk in the Spirit and many others. With Biblical guidance our children are learning many practical ways to live out their faith. The FBI group is our newest group. This group is for those in grades 5 and 6. FBI stands for Faithful Bible Investigators. With this group our teachers are pleased to be teaching our children Inductive Bible Study. As our children learn and mature through these classes it is our prayer that they will learn solid foundations of Christian faith and living. There are now seven junior church positions that we would like to see filled every Sunday. If you are interested in helping in junior church ministry, in any way, please speak to Marlene Knill. Submitted by Marlene Knill 13 Pineland Women’s Fellowship Report G od has truly blessed our Ministry this year. Our young and old have come together and planned an event for each month. This was our first year to enjoy a fun evening. We started the year in February just putting the idea out there. We were hoping that we would get some young people to get on board with us. It was so eventful that the entire year was planned. We had a movie night, a games night, a Mexican Spanish night plus other fun nights. We ended the year with a Christmas Party and heard Bev Hadland as our speaker. She told us her story. We are still looking for ladies to step forward and plan an event in 2016. On December 15 we had a cookie exchange. We brought 2 dozen cookies. One dozen was taken home and the other dozen was given to our seniors. Our Ladies retreat was in June with Jean Ewing as our speaker. Next year is our 50th anniversary and a great weekend is being planned. Our own Gail Cormier will be our speaker. Plan now to attend. It is held at Guelph Bible grounds - a very beautiful place. It is like you are in your own little village. We would like to thank all who participated and wish you a wonderful blessed New Year in 2016, Submitted by Carol Dumouchel 14 Mom’s Morning Out Report A gain this year we have said goodbye to two of our Moms who have finished their leave and gone back to work; Debbie O’Malley and Christina Katzmann and have added Brenda Henry to our group. It has been a wonderful time of sharing, growing deeper in God’s Word and praying together for neighbours, friends and people at Pineland. We began by doing the Precept inductive Bible Study method while looking up important themes throughout the book of Galatians and Ephesians and being able to write a summary of what we learned. We agreed that being in the word for ourselves was stimulating and exciting and we then had lots to discuss, think about and apply. We moved from that to study Beth Moore’s Video and Bible Study entitled Children of the Day a study of 1 & 2 Thessalonians. That encouraged us to find someone to mentor, and to connect with those around us in a deeper, transparent way and make deep friendships. God has knit us together closer during this study. We made a list of all the people we see about us during the week and began to pray for those on the list and began to ask God to surface people that were open to hear about Jesus with the intent to see them come to faith in Christ and to follow them up. A natural outcome was to pray specifically for those people that we are sharing with. It is always a challenge for young moms to spread their time out in a balanced fashion to take care of home, husband and children and to mentor a young sister in Christ and to serve in the church. Thank you girls, Amanda Stoner, Kathy Kulich, Kimberlee Franklin, Brenda Henry and Stephanie Klahsen for working hard and showing enthusiasm to study the Bible. Thank you also to Joan Visheau and Carol Hewson who love and play with our little ones each week. Your faithfulness is much appreciated. If you have school age children come and join us as we study together. You are welcome each Thurs. morning 9:45 to 11:15 am. The rest of the committee; Carol Dumouchel, Bob Pring, Ron Visheau, Wade Blundell, Peter Boyd, Sharon Costley, Don D’Alesio, Bob Rook and myself, along with other volunteers have done a great job of keeping the building and grounds in good repair. At the end of the year, we welcome Harold Lane as Treasurer and Mark Visser and Bill Moody to the Committee to assist us with tellering and other duties. Don D’Alesio will be leaving the Committee after the Annual Meeting in January. We thank him for his work over the past several years. Once again we have used the services of a local accounting firm, Beckett Lowden Read LLP, to prepare our year end reports for Canada Revenue Agency. Also, J. Gelderman Landscaping have capably maintained our lawns and parking lots in both summer and winter with Brad Barrick assisting with keeping the walkways clear of snow. Most of this year was spent doing engineering, surveying, and preparing documents for City Hall approval of the installation of our revised rear entrance and elevator. At the end of the year we had raised approximately $170,000 towards this project, and obtained a commitment from the NAB’s Church Investors’ Fund (CIF) to borrow up to $350,000 for this project. Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring as soon as the frost is out of the ground. Other improvements and maintenance items completed during the year include; Shingle replacement on the sanctuary peaked roof after the windstorm in the Fall of 2014. Some of the costs were recouped from insurance. Replacement of a circulation pump in the boiler room feeding the gymnasium heating system. Painting of the exterior of the sanctuary on the west side. New blinds in the Library and upstairs nursery. Repairs to the flat roof where the air conditioner ductwork comes in as we try to resolve the ongoing problems of rainwater leakage at this location. We have developed some Emergency Response Guidelines for use in the unlikely event of a fire or other emergency. These guidelines will be used for training and drills in the evacuation of all personnel from the building. In a similar vein, we have noticed an increased occurrence of emergency exits being obstructed by such items as sports equipment, decorations, sound equipment, etc. As this creates an unsafe condition and is a violation of the Fire Code, we ask all users to do whatever is necessary to avoid this. Due to the fact that we did not have a full time Senior Pastor throughout the year our expenses were lower than Budget. Throughout the year we monitored this situation and made transfers from the operating budget to the Building Fund totaling $54,000 – PTL! The Ministry of Support expresses appreciation to all those who helped out with maintenance and repairs over the year, and especially to the members of the team who carry out their duties on a weekly basis without much recognition. Gerry Willard Elder of Support 17 Ministry Of Outreach Report “T herefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship.” Romans 12:1 In 2015, God in His mercy and faithfulness has allowed us to partner with Him in ministry here in Burlington. We have had opportunities to serve Him, one another and our neighbors in a variety of ways with the goal of pointing others to Christ through our daily living. Throughout this year, our GO, (Gospel Outreach), team has continued to serve our community and surrounding neighborhoods with a focus on sharing the gospel with others. The GO team meets on Friday evenings and all are encouraged to come out and see God working in the hearts of our neighbors. There’s a place for each of you to participate, whether through prayer, handing out tracts or engaging the community in conversation. Early in 2015, Kevin Katzmann facilitated a ‘personal testimony’ course. It was well attended and it helped to equip each of us in sharing the truth of the gospel and ‘His story’ in our lives. PBC hosted our second ‘Chili Cook-off/Football Outreach’ back in February. The gospel was shared that evening accompanied by great food and fellowship. As part of our special ‘Easter Service’, many from Pineland distributed invitations to friends, family and neighbors to attend this service where the good news of Jesus Christ was shared. This past spring, we had the opportunity to participate in ‘Clean Up Green Up’. This is a city event where we, with others in the community, help to clean up our parks and community together. In June, Pineland along with another local church and other community leaders helped to organize and run the annual CarFree Sunday event. While serving together, we had the chance to connect with our neighbors and hand out welcome packs. In August, PBC hosted our annual V.B.S. outreach program. Many attended that week and we closed off with a Sunday BBQ that allowed us to connect with many families from the community. This year we also had the chance to meet our new neighbors in the community by sending out teams from Pineland to meet, visit and distribute ‘welcome packs’. We again had the chance to partner with Jacob Leavitt in support of the organization ‘Young Life’. This outreach looks to reach out to community kids with the gospel in local high schools. A number of families from Pineland also participated in the Samaritans Purse Christmas Shoe Box project for needy children. Our Pineland family was also encouraged to attend the annual Christmas parade and was given the opportunity to hand out tracts to those who attended. 18 We also had the chance again this year to partner with Burlington Alliance church in a local Christmas outreach. The ‘Miracle Christmas Drive’ project provided us a way to donate toys and money for needy families during the Christmas season. We were also blessed to have the opportunity to financially assist ‘Helping Hands’ as well as the ‘Miracle Christmas Drive’ project this year. We, as a team, (with the blessed addition of Carol Hewson and Kevin Katzmann), want to thank each of you who have supported us and the many outreach opportunities this year. We ask that you continue to pray and seek God’s wisdom in how we as a church family can effectively reach out and share God’s truth in our neighborhoods. Local Outreach Committee Chair – David Knill Members – Wendy Carter, Carol Hewson, Kevin Katzmann, Pastor Nathan Klahsen, Gillian Leavitt and Faye Ryan P B Calling Library Report T he Pineland library has books (fiction and non-fiction), DVDs, and CDs for adults, teens and children. This year, we added 18 adult fiction books, 27 adult non-fiction books, 10 biographies, 25 children’s books, 1 teen book, 5 DVDs and 1 CD to the library. The library committee consists of Dorris Willard, Judy Clark, and Eleanor Pohl. If you have materials that you wish to donate to the library, please speak to one of the library committee before leaving the material in the library. If you haven’t already visited the library, come and see what is available to borrow. There is no time limit for how long you can borrow a library item. If you are looking for a particular item or need some suggestions, talk to a library committee member; we would be glad to help you.
