ALLINA MEDICAL LABORATORIES - PHLEBOTOMY ORDER OF DRAW • • • All SST , PST and plain red tubes for chemistry testing must be spun down & the serum or plasma separated within 2 hours of collection Order no more than 4-5 tests per 7ml SST or PST tube collected All Blood Bank tubes must be labeled according to instructions below. Tubes not meeting labeling requirements will be rejected. FIRST Special ALL routine tests should be collected in the order listed Citrate Plain Red No Additive or Gel Protime, PTT, Thrombin time, DDimer, Fibrinogen Blood Cultures or Fungal Isolator tube Basic Metabolic, Electrolytes (Na, K, Cl, & CO2) KEEP AT ROOM TEMPERATURE Tubes must be adequately filled – observe fill lines on tubes SST 5, 7 OR 10 ml: All drugs not listed elsewhere Enzymes: CK, LD, AST, ALT, GGT, ALK Comprehensive Metabolic Must draw before routine orders. Use sterile technique * Use of a winged collection set is not Thyroid: T3, T4, recommended. If and TSH** used & a citrate Navy Blue with tube is the first **Collect TSH in a no additive (Red specimen to be separate tube Label) should drawn, a discard also be collected tube should be at this point drawn Order of draw with a syringe: Tubes should be filled in the same order as above. LAST Heparin EDTA Li Hep PST: Comp Metabolic CBC, CBC w/ Diff, Hgb, Hct, WBC ESR (Sed Rate) & Hgb A1c Na Hep: Only Na Hep tubes are acceptable for Cytogenetics testing ; Li Hep will be rejected.
