MAKING DIGITAL COPIES AT UNSW FOR TEACHING PURPOSES
STATUTORY LICENCE (PART VA) - AUDIO VISUAL MATERIAL
Background
UNSW staff can copy and communicate broadcasts of radio, television, cable satellite and podcasts of broadcasts for
teaching purposes under the Part VA statutory licence, when the copies and communication are restricted to UNSW staff and
students.
The copies can be used for online and offline distribution. Both online and offline distribution have two steps, copying and
communication. Copying is a single action (eg recording from television or radio). Communication occurs whenever that
recording is electronically transmitted (e.g. sent to students as an email attachment), or made available online or through a
CD or DVD.

An Electronic Use Notice (EUN) indicating the material has been copied under licence must be places so that
students cannot reach the copied material without seeing the notice. The notice is available from the UNSW
