C010 TITANIC EXPERIENCE Duration 2 days Audience History Coordinators and Key Stage 1 and 2 Teachers Course Outline: The Titanic Experience is an exciting opportunity for your pupils to learn and write about one of the most tragic events of the 20th Century. Join the H2L Team to discover how you can recreate the final hours of the journey of RMS Titanic in your classroom and involve your pupils as historical detectives in writing about the events that ended with the famous vessel sinking and taking over 1500 passengers and crew to the ocean floor below At the end of the course you will be able to: Morning Session • Who was on the Titanic? - Research and find out who travelled on the maiden voyage (History and ICT) • The journey - Plotting your course (An interactive activity for KS2 and KS3 pupils) • Floating & Sinking - Why do boats sink? • Too few lifeboats! - A Health & Safety exercise • Icebergs ahead! - A mathematical investigation for KS2 and 3 pupils Afternoon Session • "The Last place in the Life boat" - A drama, storytelling and writing activity for pupils of all ages Benefits: History2Literacy is a team of dedicated, enthusiastic and experienced professionals whose aim is to assist schools in enabling students ages 7-14 to reach their full potential in English, History and ICT Other Information: Important Information: The project will include a video conference day interviewing the Captain This course is delivered by an external training provider and their cancellation charges require 28 working days’ notice of cancellation. If a delegate cancels in less than 28 full working days the full cost of the course will be charged Lync Interview the Captain Duration: 30 minutes Designed for: All KS 1 & 2 Teaching Staff Aims: Interview the Captain Objectives: Video Conferencing Day The following three sessions will run throughout the day. This provides the opportunity for the pupils to become immersed in the main events and ask questions about the Titanic to get a real insight to what happened: Session 1: The viewpoint of the captain on board the Titanic that day A discussion with a survivor Opportunity to discuss the design of the ship and ask questions This will provide the children with significant additional information to help with their writing Suggested follow up cross curricular activities that could take place in school after the video conferencing Day could be: Session 2: ICT Exploring a range of ICT resources and applications Session 3: Literacy Covering a selection of literacy based activities Pre requisites PC or Laptop with Internet connection, speakers or headset and a microphone.
