While shippers will continue to demand comprehensive shipment planning, booking and tracking systems, carriers will be cautious in making significant new investments during this difficult period. IT managers will look for cost reduction and operational efficiency improvements as the primary drivers of their investments. Few large-capital investments in transportation management systems and warehousing management systems will be made until economic conditions begin to improve. 14 Transportation Trends Demand is increasing for more advanced mobile solutions that feature: • Dispatch management systems that conduct real-time route planning and fuel-saving options such as eliminating left turns where the highest idling times occur. • Fuel saving logarithms are systems that recommend certain volumes of gas based on information about next-day fuel prices or cheaper fuel located in the next location. • Vehicle analytics/telematics solutions that document wasteful driving practices such as speeding, revving engines, driving off-route, long idling times etc. 15 Solutions/Examples Existing solutions at customers New Products 16 The MC55 2MP Auto Focus Camera with Decode, Scanner, Imager… Capture documents, events, and barcodes 3.5” Hi Resolution Color QVGA Display (320X240) Better text readability Bigger, Faster Memory: 128MB/256MB Windows Mobile 6.1 MPA 1.5 Platform MircroSD, Bluetooth 2.0 Applications run faster than ever New industry standard for mobile applications Forward and backwards compatibility Expandable, flexible connectivity 520MHz Microprocessor, Rugged 4’ (150 cm) drop to concrete, IP54, Wide accessory set 17 Motorola Mobile Payment Solutions MC70XX 18 MC75XX DCR7X00-200R VC6096 - Setting a new standard for in-cab computing Package •Windows Mobile Phone 6.1 Professional •Vehicle telemetry –SAE J1708 –SAE J1939 •Full QWERTY keypad •6.5” VGA Display; Touchscreen •USB 1.1 Type A & USB 1.1 Type B •SD Card Slot •Integrated GPS (SiRFStarIII chip set) •IP64 Environmental Sealing Platform •MPA 1.5 Processing •CPU Bulverde PXA 270, 624 MHz •Memory 128MB RAM, 256 MB Flash Connections •3-G WWAN: HSDPA (No EVDO config) •WLAN- 802.11 a/b/g •PAN – Bluetooth V. 2.0 EDR, Class II •10/100 Base-T Ethernet LAN 19 RS507 – Hands free barcode imager 20 Telekom Austria Business Need • Needed to improve its service quality by enhancing customer service, providing more real time information to its engineers and making its repair and maintenance service more efficient Solution • 1200 MC35 EDAs for technical field staff • Motorola’s service-from-the-start package which provides a programme of device repair and replacement at a fixed cost.
