Veterans Day Commemoration
In recognition of Veterans Day and in
remembrance of all military personnel in
service to the United States, the City of
Boca Raton will host a Veterans Day
ceremony honoring all those who have
served our nation on Wednesday,
November 11 with two special events
FREE and open to the public.
A special tribute is planned at 9 am at the Boca Raton Cemetery, 449 SW 4th Avenue, with
the Boca Raton Community High School Naval Junior ROTC, Boca Raton Community
High School Band, Boca Raton Elks Lodge #2166, US Coast Guard Auxiliary, Estahakee
Chapter NSDAR, American Legion Post #277, and American Legion Auxiliary Post #277.
Mayor Susan Haynie will share a presentation of remembrances and welcome a special
appearance by the Fort Lauderdale Highlanders.
On Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm, enjoy a FREE concert, Tribute to Veterans, presented by the
Florida Wind Symphony under the direction of Dr. Kyle Prescott at the Mizner Park
Amphitheater, 590 Plaza Real, in Downtown Boca. Four handmade quilts will be on display
that evening made by the Quilt Guild by the Sea, Boca Raton. Through the National Quilts
of Valor Foundation, they will be awarded to area veterans. The mission of the Quilts of
Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with

Light Up Downtown Boca
Light Up Downtown Boca, a series of winter holiday festivities including parades, concerts and
more, kicks off Wednesday, November 25 at Mizner Park Amphitheater from 5:30 pm
to 8:30 pm with a FREE Holiday Festival culminating in the City’s and Mizner Park’s
annual tree lighting ceremony.
The Holiday Festival will include carnival rides, a mountain of snow, carolers, children’s
crafts, and live entertainment including “Let it Snow,” a stage show presented by ZMC
Entertainment. Mayor Susan Haynie will preside over the highlight of the evening, the
ceremonial lighting of the City’s tree that will illuminate simultaneously with Mizner Park’s
47-foot animated tree at the south end of the center near Lord & Taylor.
Attendees are encouraged to walk, bike, car pool and use free parking at City Hall, the
Boca Raton Library and Downtown Boca Library.
Light Up Downtown Boca continues in December with the 45th Annual Holiday Street
Parade on Wednesday, December 2 at 7:30 pm; FAU Tuba Christmas 2015 on
Sunday, December 13 at 5 pm; Polar Express on Friday, December 18 at 5:30 pm; and
the 39th Annual Holiday Boat Parade on Saturday, December 19 at 6:30 pm.

The Novels of Ian McEwan

The Times featured Ian McEwan on their list of "The 50 Greatest British
Writers Since 1945." McEwan has been nominated for the Man Booker prize
six times to date, winning the Prize for Amsterdam in 1998. Discussion

CarFest
Downtown Boca’s Meet Me on the Promenade Event Series concludes
with CarFest on Saturday, November 7 from 10 am to 4 pm
along Palmetto Park Road between Federal Highway and Mizner
Boulevard. CarFest will showcase more than 100 antique and classic
cars, a performance by Jimmy Stowe and the Stowaways from 12:30
pm to 3:30 pm and a variety of food trucks. The event is free and
open to the community.

Art in Public Places
Alexandra Green is 13 years old and lives in Boca Raton. She started doing arts and crafts with her Dad at the
age of 7 and advanced to drawing and painting at age 10. Alexandra works in a number of mediums including
acrylic, charcoal, oils, pencil, soft pastels, and watercolors. Her favorite painting is the “Miami Heat” logo, which
was signed by the entire basketball team. She enjoys painting animals, florals, landscapes, and different types of
scenery. Alexandra hopes to study Art Therapy and work with children. The exhibit will be on display during
the month of November at the Boca Raton Community Center, 150 Crawford Boulevard and can be viewed
Monday to Friday, 9 am – 9 pm and Saturday, 9 am – 1 pm. For more information, call 561-393-7807.
Many of Janis Colon’s works include Florida scenes. Janis has also illustrated inspirational children's books.
According to Ruth Gellis, “A day without painting is a day without sun.” Painting in watercolor & acrylic
Ruth’s works include landscapes, seascapes & botanical renderings. Another favorite modality is paper collage.
The Southern Handcraft Society features some of southern Florida’s most talented artists and craftspeople.
During November, a sampling of the guild’s many talents may be seen as a preview to the Show & Sale. These
featured artists’ works will be on display during the month of November at the James A. Rutherford Community
Center in Patch Reef Park, 2000 W. Yamato Road, and can be viewed Monday – Friday, 8 am – 10 pm; Saturday,
8 am – 5 pm; and Sunday, 10 am – 5 pm. For more information call 561-367-7035.
MPA Presents
November is a month to enjoy community events at the amphitheater.
On Wednesday, November 11, at 7:00 pm, The Florida Wind
Symphony will present “An American Tribute” in honor of Veterans Day.
Blankets and chairs are welcome at this free concert.
On Sunday, November 23, FAU and the City of Boca Raton present
Band-O-Rama! at 7:00pm. The FAU Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band and
Marching Owls combine forces to present a concert like no other with over
200 musicians creating a surround-sound experience of music for the whole
family. This event is free for the community. Blankets and chairs welcome.
Last, but certainly not least, is the City’s Holiday Tree Lighting Event on Wednesday, November 25th
from 5:30-8:30pm. The City of Boca Raton’s Annual Holiday Festival, is FREE for the entire family, culminating
with the ceremonial tree lighting by Mayor Susan Haynie at 7 pm. Children can enjoy carnival rides and games; a
festive stage show; a mountain of snow to play in; carolers; crafts and activities; photos with Santa Claus and a
spectacular fireworks finale.

Fall Jam Skateboard Competition
The City of Boca Raton Recreation Services Department presents the “Fall Skate Jam” Skateboard Competition
on Saturday, November 14, from 11am to 3 pm, at the Tim Huxhold Skate Park, 400 Crawford Boulevard. Preregistration starts November 7 at 1pm. All competitors must be 5 years old and up (proof of age required), have
a waiver signed by their parents/legal guardian and pay a $10 registration fee. Each participant must wear a
