Inquiry the Nature of Science, and Technology
Inquiry
2.1.1
Students will ask questions and conduct investigations that lead to
observations and communication of findings.
Unit Outcomes
2.1.1.a (Questioning) Students will answer teacher generated
questions and ask questions related to a science topic.
Vocabulary
2.1.1.b (Investigations) Students will participate in teacherfacilitated, simple investigations to observe, describe and
classify objects.(ex. Sinking/floating, magnets, etc.)
2.1.1.c (Tools) Students will explore the use of simple tools
appropriately to observe, describe and classify objects by
characteristics. (Balance, scale, hand lens, nonstandard
measurement tools, i.e. linking cubes, bears, etc. )
2.1.1.d (Observations) Students will describe objects,
organisms, or events using pictures, words, and numbers.
2.1.1.e (Data Collection) Students will collect and record
observations. (ex. butterfly stages, weather changes, etc.)
2.1.1.f (Communication) Students will use drawings and words
to describe and share these observations with others.
2.1.1.g (Mathematics) Students will use appropriate
mathematics in all aspects of scientific inquiry. (ex. counting
bears, linking cubes, balancing a scale)

another object or its surroundings. (ex. in front of, behind,
between, over, under, up, down, forward, backward, faster,
slower)
Vocabulary
2.2.2.b Students will describe how objects move in many
different ways. (ex. straight, zigzag, round and round, back and
forth, fast and slow)
