First Annual ADHD Conference for Professionals 2nd October 2013 Crowne Plaza Liverpool St Nicholas Place, Pier Head, Liverpool L3 1QW Making the invisible visible… Looking at the support and inclusion of children and young people with ADHD and related mental health needs. Making the invisible visible... Why Liverpool? The city by the sea, Liverpool is a world class tourist destination, with world class attractions to match. Not for nothing is it England’s most visited city outside of London, and an increasingly in-demand port of call for the world’s sleekest liners. Our venue at the stunning Pier Head cruise terminal Crown Plaza Hotel, offers the perfect waterfront location for our first annual conference for professionals. The Crown Plaza is walking distance from all of the major waterfront attractions, museums and galleries. Sponsorship for this event enables us to offer first class conference facilities and excellent dining for conference delegates at a discounted cost of only £112 per head. This event is the ideal forum for Clinicians, GP’s, Head Teachers and all child care professionals to debate how we meet the challenge of providing mental health services and education and social care for children and young people. Why this conference? ADHD is a recognised neurobiological condition that affects approximately 1 in 20 children and young people in the UK. Unfortunately, it is a very misunderstood condition and the associated stigma means that children and young people with ADHD can be poorly served by health, social care and education services. This may result in underachievement and exclusion – a tipping point to a lifetime of deprivation. This places increasing pressures on schools and GP’s, who are often not sufficiently skilled or resourced to support young people with ADHD or indeed any mental health problem. Reconfiguration of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services at a time of austerity in public funding and social welfare creates new challenges for General Practitioners and CAMHS Clinicians. Delivering an integrated 0-19 children’s pathway requires greater collaboration and partnership working. This conference provides an opportunity for health, social care and education practitioners to learn more about available services and key developments in working with young people with ADHD. The ADHD Foundation is a pioneering charity, working in partnership with families, clinicians, educationalists and a range of professionals to provide support in enabling children living with ADHD to understand and manage their ADHD. It is a member of a dynamic CAMHS partnership with Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, The Young People’s Advisory Service (YPAS). The ADHD Foundation also works with Liverpool John Moores University and a range of international agencies to highlight the needs of those with ADHD and other mental health challenges. The ADHD Foundation is now the largest organisation of its kind in the UK. Established in 1997 , the Foundation delivers a multi modal service in Liverpool, Sefton, Warrington and St Helens. We provide services across the rest of the North West as well as delivering training to professionals across the UK. The Foundation is funded by NHS, Big Lottery, Comic Relief and BBC Children In Need. Together with a range of partners, the ADHD Foundation aims to stimulate debate about how children with learning difficulties and mental health problems are supported, included and achieve.
