Sunken Room Gallery: January 14-February 20: Rigel Klingman Opening reception Friday, January 14, 7-9 pm WXXI Radio and Television News begins a month-long focus on the arts in Rochester this January. Reports on AM 1370 will range from shedding light on smaller arts organizations in the region and the state of arts education in schools, to larger issues like funding of the arts and the future of the arts in the Greater Rochester Area in general. AM 1370 reporters Peter Iglinski, Bud Lowell, Alex Crichton and Deanna Garcia will be joining television reporters Julie Philip and Michael Caputo on stories both for radio and inclusion on WXXI-TV's Friday night public affairs program, Need to Know. As one of the last independently owned and operated stations in the market, WXXI sees the arts as one of Rochester's greatest assets and, in bringing the focus back on the arts themselves, the hope is that the arts community will be strengthened as a whole. Other reports in January will include the arts as an economic development tool, the state community theatre, Garth Fagan's annual free dance clinic, and art therapy among many others. Tune into AM 1370 during Morning Edition weekdays from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. and All Things Considered weekdays from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for these special reports. Those programs are also simulcast on WRUR-FM 88.5 as part of WXXI's continued partnership with the University of Rochester.
