The Assistant Transportation Supervisor reports to the Transportation Supervisor. Nature and Scope of Job The Assistant Transportation Supervisor supports the Transportation Supervisor in the day-to-day management of transportation services within the Shaker Heights City School District (the “District”). The Assistant Supervisor assists in the supervision of all transportation services. The position helps coordinate and manage bus drivers, mechanics and bus monitors as well as bus routes. Schedule and dispatch buses and district vehicles to appropriate routes and bus stops in the school year and summer program. Monitor and maintain two-way radio communications with all buses on routes. Assign all field trips, athletic trips, and extracurricular trips to drivers with rotation as explained in the employee contract. Secure substitute drivers and bus monitors as needed to cover routes in absence of regular drivers. Instruct substitute drivers on routing, schedules and other factors necessary to perform efficiently. Work in conjunction with the District Office of Pupil Services to arrange and provide special needs transportation in accordance with student Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s). Assist with the supervision of assigned personnel, assist with annual employee performance evaluations and make recommendations for appropriate employee actions in accordance with collective bargaining agreements and District policy. Promote customer service, interact and communicate effectively with parents, students, principals and colleagues. Develop and maintain continuous driver training, mechanic training, drug-testing, driving license checks, certificate on and re-certification programs including the annual training required by the Ohio Department of Education. Assist to train drivers on safety and security measures for school bus drivers. Place orders for office and garage shop supplies, services, etc. including securing purchase orders from Central Office. Assist to maintain all OSHA safety requirements for bus garage and mechanical services. Accurately log all date required for mandated state reports and files all such reports in a timely manner. Supervise all emergency calls concerning student transportation, including any transportation that might be required for bus evacuations and transfers. Conform to all state laws and regulations regarding school transportation, including the Omnibus Transportation Employees testing Act of 1991. Attend training sessions, conferences and workshops to keep abreast of current practices, programs and legal issues as related to student transportation. Maintain bus camera and GPS systems support for the safety and security of students and bus drivers. Ensures forms, records and reports are properly completed and maintained for the public record. Assist to develop cost-savings and efficiency measures in routing, fuel usage, bus operations and garage services. Helps manage and helps ensure the safe operation of transportation vehicles. Provides regular reports (e.g. weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually). Communicates and responds to school principals, District staff, and external stakeholders on school transportation issues (real or perceived) for the purpose of correcting and/or making changes as appropriate. Resolves complaints, responds to requests for information and provides assistance to stakeholders. Develop and post transportation information for District webpage Comply with all Board policies including Policy EEA, Student Transportation Services. Assists other personnel and performs other duties as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment. 1 Knowledge, Skills and Ability: Must be able to work in a high-paced, dynamic office environment. Must be available after hours for job emergencies. Must have knowledge of the geography of the Shaker Heights City School District. Must have knowledge of the mapping software as related to student transportation routing and logistics. Must be able to operate a vehicle and travel in and around the District and region to conduct work. Must have knowledge of the budgetary process, bidding and purchasing practices for public school districts. Must have general knowledge of vehicle service, maintenance techniques/procedures and a good understanding of the Ohio Highway Patrol yearly school bus inspection process. Strong ability to organize, prioritize, work under time constraints and to be flexible in an environment of multiples tasks and changing priorities. Exhibit a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well across a variety of multi-cultural, multi-experience, multibackground audiences including students, staff, administration, parents and the community. Hutchings, Jr., Superintendent of Schools FROM: John Rizzo, Director of Technology & Media Services DATE: March 13, 2015 SUBJECT: Technology Update – Technology Plan Development GOAL: 2 ______________________________________________________________________________ Per Goal 2 of the Five-Year Strategic Plan, a committee has been assembled to review and revise the district technology plan. To date, this group of representatives from multiple stakeholder groups has met twice. Meetings are facilitated by a representative from the Educational Service Center of Cuyahoga County (ESC). Beginning stages of the process have been focused on the development of our core beliefs regarding technology in Shaker. In later stages, attention will be directed toward goal setting and action plan development.
