Hannibal was a great general from Carthage. Where was Carthage located? Hannibal decided to attack the Roman Empire by crossing the Alps and surprising Rome with the attack. When did this happen? How long did it take Hannibal to cross the Alps? What animals did Hannibal take along on this military maneuver that were not usually seen in battle? 2. Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD and destroyed, among other things, the city of Pompeii. Do a little research and find out if Vesuvius has erupted other times. When was the most recent eruption? 3. The Canaanites were a group of people who lived in the area now occupied by the countries of Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, the Palestinian Territories, and parts of Syria. Approximately how long did it take for the Israelites to completely take over the land of Canaan?
