UC Davis Testing Procedures Terms to Know: MyVGL – the UC Davis on line system. VGL stands for Veterinary Genetics Laboratory Case # - each of your tested Dexters is assigned a unique case # (known as the accession number at Texas A&M) Permanent Record – your Dexter’s set of genetic markers – also known as the genotype. A genotype does not identify breed type, but rather it identifies the specific set of genetic markers inherited from parents. ADCA Affiliation Code – As an ADCA member, you receive a discount on testing fees, but you must set up the affiliation code to have your Dexters identified with the ADCA in order to receive the discounted fee schedule. Our affiliation code is ADCA2024. When setting up your account with UC Davis, you will be prompted to set up an Affiliation Code. Please select the ADCA2024 code in order for your genotype results to be sent to the registrar. Important! Make sure you Add ADCA Affiliation Code to your account! Questions and Answers Q: I’ve had other tests done at UC Davis, like chondrodysplasia, PHA, color, etc. Will that information be automatically forwarded to the ADCA Registrar? A: No. These tests are voluntary and you must send a copy to the registrar for inclusion on your Dexter’s certificate and on line pedigree. You may mail them to the registrar (through the post office) or forward by email. Since genotyping of females born prior to 2016 is NOT mandatory, you will need to notify the registrar that you wish to have that information included on your pedigrees. Q: All of the forms say that my genotype results will be shared with the ADCA and other members. That’s my information! – no one else needs to know the genetic markers of my animals! A: Only the results will be shared. Genotype on file Sire Qualified Dam Qualified Parentage Verified The above are the only pieces of information shared. You own your data and UC Davis will not share this information with anyone but the owner without permission. The above also only applies to your bulls. If you wish your heifers or cows born prior to 2016 to have their genotyping/parentage verification included in the pedigree, then you must notify the registrar if you are sending the information after the registration has taken place. If you wish the information to be included on new registrations, then you Must include the Case # on your registration form for females born prior to 2016. Q: We have animals already on file at UC Davis, but have not sent the genotype results to the ADCA. What do we do now? A: The genotype result must be sent directly (via a computer file) to the ADCA Registrar from UC Davis. You will need to know your VGL Case # to request that the information be transmitted. Select Add Test to Existing Sample from the Menu. Click on the case# for the animal to add to the ADCA file. Click Include this sample in report to ADCA You will need to notify the registrar that the information is on the way by sending her a copy of your results which she will then verify against the UC Davis transmission. Q: Is there a cost for this? A: There is no cost to record the information and it will appear on your Dexter’s on line pedigree. However, if you want a new certificate, the standard $3.00 per certificate fee applies. Q: I have UC Davis for non-genotype testing, but I have my genotypes for parentage verification through Texas A&M. I want to have all of my information at UC Davis. Now what? A: Both the labs are “approved” for testing. If you wish to move your genotype results to UC Davis, it will be at your expense. The fee is $10.00 per entry. The Genotype Entry Request form must be submitted to UC Davis with a copy of your genotype from Texas A&M along with your check or credit card information. Please allow 2-3 weeks for the information to be added to your records. Q: How do I contact UC Davis about specific testing inquiries and when can I reach them?
