Receives hands on experience on all wage and salaried jobs in order to manage a shift or section in a service center. Once hands-on work is competed in each area the incumbent fills in as a supervisor on various shifts and departments. The job will manage a shift while emphasizing safety, quality, efficiency, service and delivery. They also complete assignments such as completing knowledge indicators, writing papers, viewing management videos, and recommending improvements on operating procedures. Participates in ODTDT program to receive a CDL license, participates in forklift training program and management and leadership training courses as scheduled. Primary duties or responsibilities: *In addition to the duties listed below employee is also expected to perform any additional duties as assigned by management and to adhere to all company policies and procedures. Complete forklift job training knowledge and production exercises on all jobs within the service center. Read the Corporate Personnel and Safety Manual and complete a matrix. Participates in ODTDT program to obtain CDL license. Attend training sessions and meetings as required. Complete shift manager’s training as an understudy with an experienced manager. Fill in as a supervisor on various shifts and departments. Completes department/area knowledge indicators and develops new indicators and processes and procedure change. Writes and submits monthly activity reports. Assigns work to employees according to daily schedule. Make quick and informed decisions based on the volume levels and communicates schedule to affected employees. Inspects working conditions of tools and equipment needed for safe operation within the area and directs the correction of any improper or adverse condition that exists. Works in AS400 moving freight as needed throughout the system and maintains records of efficiency, quality, cost, hot loads, missed loads, etc. Works in SAP as needed to update payroll and employee information. Answers employee questions regarding company policy. Skills and/or education required to adequately perform the duties of the position. 1. Education: College degree 2. Previous Experience: Percentage of Travel Required: 15%. Spent traveling to various service centers to learn the operations and supervise in a different environment Essential Functions: (fundamental job-related duties that are necessary to this position that cannot be modified) (Standing) 9-11 Hours/shift while monitoring, mentoring and coaching employees and inspecting job performance to determine needs in the department (Sitting) 0-2 Hours/shift to prepare shift reports, quality reports, productions reports and to enter data into the computer and to answer the telephone (Moving Self) Transports self continuously over the department and service center several times a day/shift to follow up with employees, support areas, to monitor trailers for correct loading/unloading, to inspect trailers/trucks/freight and to attend and conduct shift meetings, etc. (Climbing) Stairs as necessary in the service center and occasionally in trailers to determine best way to load/unload freight (Moving Materials) Due to total exposure in the service center and maintenance areas, the trainee is required to load/unload freight of any size. From 1 lb to transporting/moving/pushing up to 2000 lbs, following OSHA guidelines. (Hearing/Speaking) Must be able to communicate verbally with all employees that may report to them as a shift supervisor, co-workers, supervisor and by phone, some jobs require the use of a PA system (Reaching) Minimum arms length up to 7 feet to check freight stability.
