All other alpha suffixes denote selected topics. Lower division courses, intended for freshmen and sophomores, are numbered 100-299. Upper division courses are numbered 300-499, and these may be carried for graduate credit. Courses numbered 500-599 are generally not applicable toward undergraduate and graduate degrees except for those in law and medicine. Graduate courses are numbered 600800. “WI/” in the course title identifies it as a writing-intensive course. Asterisk (*) in the beginning of course title identifies it as a course taken through the UHMänoa’s Outreach College (formerly called the College of Continuing Education and Community Service). Beginning Fall 1997, Outreach College courses are identified by “EXT” (for extension) in the term, e.g., FALL EXT 1998. Credit Hours = All courses are recorded in semester hours. Length of Semester = 16 weeks. Extension courses (identified by asterisk in the course title or “EXT” in term) and summer session courses, although taught over varying periods of time, meet for an equivalent number of semester hours. Grade Points per Credit Hour = 4 if A+ or A, 3.7 if A-, 3.3 if B+, 3 if B, 2.7 if B-, 2.3 if C+, 2 if C, 1.7 if C-, 1.3 if D+, 1 if D, .7 if D-, 0 if F. Grade points are given for courses in which grades of A+, A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D- or F are reported. Honors, High Honors, Highest Honors = Granted to baccalaureate degree recipients who have completed a special curriculum of seminars and research work in the upper division Honors Program, culminating in a Senior Honors Project (initiated June, 1962). With Distinction = Granted to undergraduate baccalaureate degree recipients with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.4 or above before August 1974 or with 3.5 or above beginning August 1974 (designated “Honors” before June, 1962; “Academic Commendation” before 1969). The cumulative grade-point average for this designation encompasses academic work at UHM and all other colleges and universities and includes both transferable and non-transferable credits. Repeated courses are identified in the column “R” with A (averaged in GPA, not included in credits), E (excluded from GPA and credits) and I (included in credits and GPA) Incomplete grades may appear as IA, IC, etc. The letters after the “I” indicate the grade to be recorded if no further coursework is submitted. Requirements for the Doctor of Medicine (M.D. Degree) include passing USMLE Steps 1 and 2. The transcript includes all courses for which a student is registered at the end of the registration drop period. Institutional policy on withdrawals, transfer credits, incompletes, repeated courses may be found in the University Catalog. The University of Hawaii at Manoa is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
