Assessment Collection
Was Due September 8, 2013
Our goal of $40,741.56 was due on September 8, 2013. So far this
year we have raised only $27,919.83 toward that goal. Because
we have not met our goal in several years and have a shortfall of
$12,821.74 this year, we really need your help to retire this debt. If
everyone who reads this takes an active part in our parish
responsibility there’s no limit to what we can do! As always, thank you
and God Bless!

Pastoral Council Meeting
Tuesday, October 15, 2013
SYNOPSIS
Attendance: Father Eric Kowalski, Dale Carothers,
Jay Couch, Mario Espinosa, Cheryl Ramsey,
Gordon Williams, Tim Clontz, Angela Dierking,
Steve Murphy, Jack Yarbrough.
Absent:
Hernan Sedda
The meeting began with an opening prayer by Father Eric
Kowalski. The minutes from the September meeting were
reviewed and approved.
Business items:
OLG Financial Report:
The September Parish financial statements were distributed to
each member and were reviewed by the council. Discussion
topics included:
A)
The financial condition of our parish; 1) the continued need
for improved offertory levels; 2) consistently (for
approximately the last 10 years) below budget giving
levels. It was noted that expenses have been curtailed.
However, increased and sustained financial giving is
imperative if we are to remain a vibrant presence in our
community.
B)
The overall climate of the church. It was the consensus of
the council that there is a need for education in our parish
family regarding our financial situation and the parish
financial position. An inquiry was made about a fundraiser
(s) (in light of not having the Fall Festival this year). It was
considered a possibility.
C)
The current fundraiser for the school was discussed.
About $22,000 was raised by the students at their recent
“Panther Prowl.”
D)
The Stewardship Committee, its history and cumulative
results over the last 5-10 years was discussed.
E)
Possibility of implementing children’s envelopes as a
means of educating our children about their stewardship
and place in the parish family. Included topics: how
people give and what motivates them to give; facilities;
completion of construction; lack of social events in our
community; increased enrollment of new parish members.
DSA Update:
The DSA report by parish was distributed and looked at by the
council. Those who made pledges need to be sure to fulfill them
by Dec. 31st, 2013 so that we can receive that much needed
reimbursement of almost $12,000 which is needed in our
budget.
INPUT:
1) Offertory Letter: The council will review the first draft letter
and add or delete comments as they see fit. A deadline of
October 29th has been set.
2) Feedback from parishioner: Father showed the council a
letter from a parishioner who believes that “all we ever do is
talk about money” and he asked us to comment. The council
feels that with all the diocesan collections, it is perceived that
Father is asking for the money for our local church, when in
fact, this is money that will be sent to the diocese. Again, the
financial condition of the church was discussed and our
need to educate the community.
3) Handheld Collection Baskets vs. “long pole” collection
basket: Father showed the council the choices of handheld
baskets. It was recommended to Father that we seriously
consider implementing the handheld baskets so that they
are held and passed by those in the pew. This will foster a
sense of ownership and participation. It was observed that a
number of attendees sit passively when the current
collection baskets pass by. Hopefully, with folks “passing the
basket” to each other, a deeper sense of belonging and
participation will result. Cheryl Ramsey will train the ushers
in proper procedure of passing the baskets.
Recommendation to explore implementation was approved
by Father.
Upcoming OLG Activities:
Christmas on Campus, please encourage people to attend.
The Renaissance choral group, “Suspicious Cheese Lords” will
be performing a concert of Renaissance music here on Saturday,
January 11th. In order to help defray the cost, we will pre-sell
tickets. Plans will be finalized as soon as possible and appear in
the bulletin. It was suggested that an invitation be extended to
any who might wish to sponsor this event.
Bi-lingual Thanksgiving Day Mass at 10:00am, Thursday,
November 28th.
New Item: It was mentioned that we need to do something
positive and pleasant at our Parish. It was decided and approved
that a New Years’ Day Breakfast would be held this year to begin
2014 with something positive. We would make it free to the
parish, and invite everyone. Cheryl Ramsey to chair. Members to
help.
Father ended the meeting with a prayer.

12th Annual OLG
Thanksgiving Baskets Program
OLG will once again support the efforts of several local agencies and
organizations that provide for the needy in our community. We are gathering
food for 100+ families this Thanksgiving and we cannot undertake this effort
without your support. We would like for the leaders of each of our parish
groups and ministries to help provide the items listed below. If your ministry is
not listed, please donate any of the options. We will also need monetary
donations to help offset the cost of the turkeys and any shortfalls that
we have in canned goods.
Please place your donated items in the back of the church by the Pieta Statue across from the
Baptistry. If you choose to make a financial donation, please place it in the offertory basket or drop it by
the church office. Be sure to mark the check for Thanksgiving Baskets Program.
Donations are needed no later than Sunday evening, November 24th, 2013.
Thank you in advance for your help!

gifts these children or family receive, please be
as generous as possible.

Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church
November 10, 2013
Our Children’s Christmas Pageant that has now become a
tradition here at Our Lady of Grace began about thirty-five
years ago in C.C.D. and was presented in the lower school
auditorium. Over the years, as interest and participation
increased, we were invited to become part of the celebration
on Christmas Eve in the church. This was a wonderful move
because OLG, Home School and C.C.D. students continue to
come together on this most Holy Night in their portrayal of the
Birth of Jesus.
Promptly at 3:30 PM on Christmas Eve, you will hear the
trumpet herald that is a signal our program is beginning. This
presentation is by children, for children and they do all the
readings with the exception of the gospel. Families with
children participating usually bring up the gifts; serve as
Eucharistic Ministers, Altar Servers and Ushers.
The procession begins with the beautiful carol “O Come All Ye Faithful” as our readers proceed to their
places. The story of the Birth of Jesus will unfold as you hear the readings and a narrative of this most
Holy Event. This portrayal of the Birth of Our Savior concludes with Jesus, Joseph and Mary surrounded
by Angels, The Wise Men, Shepherds and the Drummer Boy during the singing of the beautiful carol
Silent Night. This is the time for your pictures.
While trying to briefly acquaint you with the history of our pageant, I would be remiss in this effort if I
didn’t mention our costumes. In the early years we only had improvised costumes, but now, with thanks
to some of the seamstresses of our parish, our characters are dressed in the finest regalia for
Christmas. I’m sure Jesus is pleased!
Mass will begin at 4:00 PM with Father Kowalski as our celebrant. At the conclusion of Mass every child
present will receive a gift.
C.C.D. students will receive a letter on November 10th and OLG students will receive a letter on
November 14th with details of all of our rehearsals. If you are a Home School family, please contact me
at rlroth1@earthlink.net and put Pageant in the subject line.
Please plan to join us at the following organizational meetings:
Saturday, November 16th at 6:30 PM for our pageant characters in the cafeteria
Sunday, November 17th following the 11:00 AM Mass, in the church, for our pageant readers
Thank you and I hope to see you soon.
In Jesus,
Lea Roth
