FAQs ON ITE’S THREE-YEAR NITEC PROGRAMME
Q1:
What is the 3-year Nitec Programme?
A:
The 3-year Nitec Programme is a new initiative by ITE to help N(T) students
with ‘0’ or ‘1’ GCE ‘N’ level pass acquire a skill qualification by:
-
Offering them training places in specific Nitec courses where the learning
pace is spread out over a longer period (3 years) to match their learning
needs;
-
Enhancing their chances of completing the Nitec courses successfully with
the Enhanced Nitec Foundation Programme; and
-
Providing a customised programme that takes into account character
development and social integration.
Q2:
What is the difference between the 2-year Nitec Programme and the 3year Nitec Programme?
A:
1. Students who opt for the 3-year Nitec Programme will spend a total of
three years, instead of two, at ITE for their Nitec programme. They will
undergo two years of the Enhanced Nitec Foundation Programme before
progressing on to the Career Core curriculum in the third year.

2. Classes for the 3-year Nitec Programme have a smaller student to
lecturer ratio of 30:1 (as compared to 40:1 for the 2-year Nitec
Programme), allowing lecturers to give more attention to each student.
3. Students studying in the 3-year Nitec Programme will take one technical
module per semester during the first two years. This will allow them to
learn at a more comfortable learning pace. Students in the 2-year Nitec
Programme are currently taking two technical modules per semester
during the Foundation Core year.
4. Because students are taking only one technical module instead of two per
semester, the extra time would be channeled towards:
-
Enhancing students’ thinking skills;
-
Introducing character education;
-
Participating in motivational camps and activities.
Q3:
What do students learn in the 3-year Nitec Programme?
A:
In addition to the hands-on training, the 3-year Nitec Programme will
strengthen students’ literacy and numeracy skills and improve their selfconfidence and motivation. This will prepare them not only for the final Career
Core year, but also for lifelong learning and success.
