Two-year starter for Marion Giants, scored 997 points with a high game of 38 points in the 1989 South Bend semi-state semifinal against South Bend St. Joseph’s. Still holds school records for 3-point shooting percentage in a season (42 of 86, .488, 1988) and regular season and tournament (44 of 93, .473, 1988), most 3-point shots attempted in a regular season (150, 1989), most 3-point shots attempted in a regular season and tournament (206, 1989) and most free throws made in a game (17). Graduated holding Giants’ records for 3point attempts and 3-point percentage for a career, which since has been broken. As a senior averaged 25 points a game and led the Giants to the third unbeaten season in school history and North Central Conference championship. Starred at College of Southern Idaho and was first team JUCO All-American and MVP both years in Region 18. He then moved on to Arizona State University where he fractured his patella which ended his competitive playing career. Still resides in Marion, still plays basketball recreationally, and works at McCulloch Middle School as a Building Safety Inspector. He has two children. Tony Barbee North Central (Indianapolis) st 1 team Bloomington Herald-Times all-state and high honorable mention AP all-state, averaging 26 points his senior year. Four-year varsity player, record of 59-34, held school record 44 points at Perry Meridian senior year. Four-year career at UMass, where he scored 1,643 points (still 7th in school history), is 3rd in school history in games started (118), 3rd in FT made (477), 4th in FT attempted (657), 6th in games played (126) and 8th in minutes played (3,692). Named to A10 Conference all-rookie team and twice all-conference. Played in Europe for three years before coaching career. Assistant at UMass (1996 Final Four), Wyoming and Memphis, before four years as head coach at UTEP (2006-2010, Conference USA Coach of the Year 2010) and now enters fourth season as head coach at Auburn. Has played or coached in total of 9 NCAA Tournaments and will be inducted into UMass Athletics HOF this year. Married, he has two children. Calbert Cheaney Evansville Harrison st st 1989 Indiana All-Star. 1 team AP all-state, 1 team Bloomington Herald-Times all-state, 2nd team UPI all-state. Averaged 24.1 points-per-game for Harrison as senior, 20 per game as junior. Four-year career at Indiana University, remains Big Ten Conference and IU all-time leading scorer at 2,613 points. 1992-93 National College Player of the Year, John R. Wooden Award, Eastman Award. Started 130 (school record) of 132 career games. 6th overall pick by the Washington Bullets, scored 7,826 points in 13 NBA seasons with Washington, Boston, Denver, Utah and Golden State. Married with two children, he is currently Assistant Coach at Saint Louis University. Greg Graham Warren Central st 1989 Indiana All-Star. 1989 McDonald’s All-American. 1 team AP all-state, 1st team Bloomington Herald-Times all-state, 3rd team UPI all-state. Set school career records for points (1,509), scoring average (21.4), assists (208), steals (158), field goals made (541), free throws made (385), season records for points (513), scoring average (23.3), field goals made (206), free throws made (137) and singe game record for free throws made(15). Graduated 2nd in career rebounds (428). Four-year career at Indiana University, graduating as 8th all-time leading scorer (1,590 points), 2nd all-time steals (151), 3rd FT made (468), tied with Cheaney for 2nd in games played (132). Big Ten defensive all-conference and 1993 Defensive Player of the Year, led Big Ten in FG% and 3PT FG% in same season (1993). 17th overall pick of 1993 NBA Draft, played five seasons with Philadelphia, New Jersey, Seattle and Cleveland. Married with two children, he is beginning 6th season as head coach at Warren Central with 58-51 record. Pat Graham Floyd Central 1989 Mr. Basketball, Trester Award Winner, McDonald’s All-American. 1st team AP, UPI, Bloomington Herald Times all-state as senior, 1st team Bloomington Herald Times all-state and high honorable mention AP all-state junior year. MVP of the South squad in the 17th annual Kentucky Derby Festival Classic, Averaged 32.4 ppg senior season for state finalists and 27 ppg junior year for sectional champs, graduated as 2nd leading scorer at Floyd Central (1,886) on teams that were 74-27. Scored 890 points in 104 career games at Indiana University from 199094. Married with two children he is currently in sales and marketing for Progressive Health Rehab of Evansville. David Hinton Castle 3rd team UPI all-state and high honorable mention AP all-state averaging 23 points his senior season. Four-year letterman setting school scoring record of 1,436 career points. McDonald’s All-America Honorable Mention, 1989 White River Games State champions with Evansville AAU. Received a full basketball scholarship to Boston College, second team Big East Rookie Team 1990, Olympic Festival participant, averaged 11.3 points per game during freshman season, Captain of 1992 and 1993 teams, Frank Power Memorial Award Winner for “dedication, loyalty, spirit and love” of Boston College basketball. Played professional basketball overseas from 1993-2003 in Wales, France, Sweden, Belgium, Poland and Australia. Employed with Fifth Third Bank since 2005, currently an Assistant Vice President. He is married with three children and resides in Evansville. Rodney Holmes South Bend St. Joseph’s 1989 Indiana All-Star. 1st team UPI and Bloomington Herald-Times all-state, 2nd team AP allstate, averaged double figure points all four years of high school. Teams were 52-4 his final two seasons, including 1989 state finals appearance and HOF Classic champions that season. Set alltime leading career scoring record at South Bend St. Joseph’s (1,583 points, now 2nd), Indiana Mini Mr. Basketball Runner-up 1989. Played for Ball State University, MAC Championship 1990-91. Married with two children, currently employed with the Capital Area Transportation Authority in Lansing, Michigan. Chris Lawson Bloomington High School South st 1989 Indiana All-Star. 1 team AP, UPI and Bloomington Herald-Times his senior year and 1st team UPI all-state and 2nd team AP all-state his junior year. Averaged 26 ppg as a senior, member of two regional championship teams. Played for Indiana University and Vanderbilt, member of 1993 SEC Championship team. Played ball overseas for four years in Turkey and Taiwan. Employed with Pfizer since 1998, he is married with two children and lives in Salina, Kansas. Jamie Matthews New Washington 1989 Indiana All-Star. High honorable mention AP all-state and Bloomington Herald-Times 1st team smALL-state. 2nd all-time leading scorer at New Washington with 1,443 points, three-year All-Conference, 1988 Hall of Fame Classic All-Tourney Team, NBCA All-Star, All-Sectional, All-Regional. Teams were 47-5 over final two seasons with a pair of sectional championships. One season at Univ. of Alaska Anchorage and Vincennes Univ., Ball State 1991-93. At Ball State, team MVP, MAC all-tournament team, set single season assist record (207), won free throw award (85%) and 3PT award (52%), member of MAC regular season and tournament champions. College basketball coach from 1993-2011, including head coaching stops at Manchester College and Saginaw Valley State and assistant jobs at Central Michigan and Eastern Washington University. Since 2012, employed as Business Banker at First Merchants Bank in Muncie. He is married with three children and lives in Muncie. Scott Matthews New Washington 1,376 career points, now 4th in New Washington history. Three years all-conference, allsectional, all-regional, HOF Classic all-tournament team, MVP of 1989 HBCA All-Star game and participant in Top 40 workout. Played college ball for University of Alaska Anchorage 1989-90 in NCAA II Tournament, Eastern Wyoming College 1990-91 18 ppg, 8 assist per game, NJCAA National Tournament, chosen NJCAA All tournament and WCCAC All Conference, University of Idaho 1991-92, Northeast Missouri State 1992-94 NCAA II All-American, 1st team South Central Regional All-District, 1st team MIAA – single game scoring record 43 points. Since 1999, a head basketball coach Shawe Memorial, Austin, Clarksville and currently teacher and coach at New Washington. Married with five children, he lives in Clarksville. Tony McGee Terre Haute South 1989 Indiana All-Star. 2nd team AP all-state and 3rd team UPI all-state for 23-2 regional champions. Three-year starter for Terre Haute South, record of 52-19, 10th on all-time scoring list with 963 points, all-sectional, all-regional, all-semi-state, all-state, received the McMillan Award for the most outstanding athlete in Vigo County his junior and senior year. Played football for the University of Michigan, where he was all-conference and academic allconference and went on to have an NFL career for 11 years with Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants. Named to NFL all-rookie team in 1993. Owns HNM Global Logistics Company. He is married with one child and lives in Orlando, Florida. Mickey McPherson Mississinewa A junior on 21-2 team that defeated Marion in sectional semi-final, as senior recorded 3rd highest single-season point total (600) and was 5th leading scorer in the state at 28.6 points per game. 1st Team All-County, 1st Team All-Conference, 1st Team Bloomington Herald Small School AllState, WBAT Sportsmanship Award (Grant 4 tournament), invited to the Top 40 Workout, participated in the Eastern Indiana-Ohio All-Star Classic held at Ball State (scored 18 points) and participated in the 3 point shootout held in conjunction with the Indiana-Kentucky All-Star game. Starting guard two years for Parkland City College with a single-game high of 42 points. One season at Indiana Wesleyan University, where team won the NCCAA National Championship and he was named all-tournament team and Tournament MVP. Still holds IWU season FT% record of 92.5%. Coached various sports in Mississinewa and Gas City area before passing away unexpectedly in August of 2007 with a hemorrhage of the aorta. Rich Mount Lebanon st 1989 Indiana All-Star. 1 team Bloomington Herald-Times all-state, 2nd team AP all-state, averaged 27 points per game as junior and senior and played on three consecutive sectional championship teams. Four-year varsity letter winner, four years all-conference (three years 1st team all-conference) graduated as school’s 2nd all-time leading scorer (2,139) behind his father Rick and was 9th in IHSAA all-time scoring (now 19th). Played for Purdue and Virginia Commonwealth. Currently with the Lebanon Police Department, he is married and has five children. Matt Petty Crawfordsville st 1989 Indiana All-Star. 1 team Bloomington Times-Herald smALL-state, high honorable mention AP all-state and 3rd team UPI all-state. Four-time All-County, three-time 1st team AllConference, three-time All-Area, two-time All-State, career scoring leader in Crawfordsville history 1,608 points, 2-time MVP. Four-year career at Creighton University, graduating with top 15 career rankings in 3 pt. FG%, FT%, 3 pt. FG’s made and for most points in a single game (37). One of only four players in Creighton history to lead the team in scoring and assists in a single season. All Missouri Valley Conference and team MVP in 1993. Also lead the country in minutes played his senior year by playing all but 39 minutes in 26 games for 39.2 minutes/game avg. Creighton won one MVC regular season and tournament championship, played in one NIT and one NCAA tournament, the 1990-91 season saw the Bluejays win the most games in school history at the time (24) and advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament. Played professionally in Europe, the U.S. and Canada. Currently President/Principal at LogistiCold/Midwest Refrigerated Services. Married with two children, he resides in Colorado Springs, Colorado Matt Painter Delta st 1989 Indiana All-Star. 1 team Bloomington Herald-Times all-state, 3rd team AP all-state, Delta teams were 60-12 as a starter. 1,497 career points, 2nd on Delta’s record book. Set school single season points (693) and scoring average (27.7) records, and ranks 2nd in single season assists (185, or 7.4 assists/game). Scored 30+ points in a game 13 times and 40+ four times. Named East Central Indiana and Delaware County Player of the Year. Played in 109 games in four year career at Purdue, ranking among school’s career leaders in assists (276), as a senior captain, he was named honorable mention all-Big Ten his senior year. Involved in college coaching since 1993, he has worked at Washington & Jefferson, Barton College, Eastern Illinois and Southern Illinois. Currently in his 9th season as head coach at Purdue, where he has a 176-95 (.649) record (prior to season starting) and has taken 6 teams to the NCAA tournament and captured both a Big Ten regular season and tournament championship. He has three children. Kenny Rowan Northview st nd 1989 Indiana All-Star. 1 team Bloomington Herald-Times, 2 team AP and 2nd team UPI allstate as a senior and 1st team Bloomington Herald-Times and 2nd team AP all-state as a junior. Holds school record with 2,138 points and remains 20th all-time leading scorer in IHSAA history, averaged more than 20 ppg all four years. Was team’s leading scorer in 65 of 76 games, scored in double figures in 71 of 76 games, 19 30-point games, two 40-point games, 1988 South Vermillion Sectional Champions. Played in 36 games over two seasons at Indiana State University. Married with two children, he is a police officer in Indianapolis. Casey Schmidt Valparaiso st 1989 Indiana All-Star. 1 team Bloomington Herald Times all-state, 2nd team UPI all-state and 3rd team AP all-state, averaged 20 points and eight rebounds for 20-4 sectional champions. Scored 1,199 career points and named NWI Tribune Player of Year, Conference Player of Year, Post Tribune Player of Year, McDonald’s All-American Western Classic 3-point competition champion. Played college basketball at University of Arizona (’90-91) and Valparaiso University, 1st team All-Conference Valparaiso, named conference all-tournament team and allnewcomer team. Won team rebounding award (twice) and free throw award and still holds top two season FT% records (92.6 & 89.7) in school history. Was top 5 in NCAA in 3PT% and FT% junior and senior year. Played professionally from 1995-2005 in Germany, France, Italy and Spain. Currently Vice President of Associated Contractors in Hattiesburg, MS. He has two children. Nate Tubbs Fort Wayne Wayne 1989 Indiana All-Star. High honorable mention AP all-state, averaging 22 points and 9 rebounds his senior season, SAC all-conference three years, was named Fort Wayne Player of the Year and graduated with 1,295 points. Played in 103 games during four-year career at University of Minnesota, team defensive player of the year junior and senior year. Career totals of 437 points and 210 rebounds. Played overseas from 1993-2000 and has since been involved with youth, including a counselor. Currently a youth coordinator in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is married with one child.
