Course Overview
This course covers the major movements in Hispanic literature from the medieval period through
the latest literary trends. It eliminates the barriers of national literature to illustrate the ties that
exist between the cultures. The text is a source of cultural and historical information from which
we can examine many aspects of Hispanic studies-from basic customs to intrinsic values. The
goals of the course are to teach students analysis skills in order to extract important information
and nuances from each selection and to teach them to reflect upon present social and cultural
situations. The students will also be able to explain their analysis fluently both in oral and in
written composition. Students will re-examine AP selections read during previous years’ study
and complete the remaining selections from the AP College Board reading list. Students will be
able to analyze critically, orally and in writing, using appropriate terminology, the form and
content of literary texts of Spanish and Spanish American literature, including poetry, from all
time periods and from a variety of genres.
