Hats off to all our Yard Sale volunteers! Give praise to God for the wonderful results that have come out of our annual Yard Sale! When we work together as a team, the results are absolutely amazing! We made $7,400 + and we’re still counting the dollars coming in from left-over sales! Congratulations to all the volunteers who baked goodies, lugged furniture around, stood on their feet selling all day or created wonders to sell. All your hard work really paid off. To the best of our knowledge this Yard Sale has yielded the most income for our Spring sale to date! On behalf of the Promotions Committee organizers - we thank each and every person involved with making our 2009 Yard Sale such a success! Thank you, thank you, thank you, and may the Lord bless you too. Car Rally/Tour & BBQ Come one . . . Come all ! We’d like to invite and intrigue you to sign-up this year for the Car Rally/Tour which is always a fun scavenger hunt of sorts—on wheels! Basically, you pick a partner—male, female, relative, non-relative or pool tournament buddy—whomever you like! There can be more than two to a car, but you will need one driver and one navigator! You’re given a set of driving directions and asked to stop along the route and write down various answers to questions— the answers come from simply observing your location. This is a great exercise for keeping the brain tuned-in and it’s a great way to spend some quality time with family and friends while having some fun along the way! The Car Rally/Tour usually starts around 9:00 am and ends at a barbeque location for lunch. The cost this year will be $20 pp for residents and $30 for non-residents—lunch included! This is cheap entertainment folks! Ask anyone who’s participated in the past. You’ll have a real blast! The planned date for the Car Rally/Tour & BBQ is Saturday, June 20th. In order for us to proceed with this event we must have 20 cars registered to participate before the end of May. Please ask your friends and family to participate and sign-up in the Activities Room ASAP. Thank You ... Thank You ... Hobby Show Participants We sure enjoyed seeing all your hobbies and talents on Wednesday, April 22 at our Resident Hobby Show. Wow ! We really have some talented residents. Woodworking, knitting, crocheting, painting, crafting - it was all so wonderful to see. Thank you so much to all the residents who showed us their hobbies and talents. Everyone really enjoyed the show! May 2009 Page 4 Friendship Banner ON THE WINGS OF A PRAYER Just close your eyes and open your heart, And feel your worries and cares depart. Just yield yourself to the Father above, And let him hold you secure in his love. For life on earth grows more involved, With endless problems that can't be solved, But God only ask us to do our best, Then he will take over and finish the rest... So when you are tired, discouraged and blue, There is always one door that is open to you, And that is the door to The House of Prayer, And you'll find God waiting to meet you there. And The House of Prayer is no further away, than the quiet spot where you kneel and pray. For the heart is a temple when God is there As we place ourselves in his loving care. And he hears every prayer and answers each one When we Pray in His name - Thy will be done. The burdens that seemed too heavy to bear Are lifted away on the wings of a prayer. by: Helen Steiner Rice Courtice Dutch Imports D ur ha m C hr is ti an H om es H ai rs ty lin g amily the Whole F r Fo e ar C r Hai In Our Lobby Wednesday, May 20th 9:30 am—3:00 pm Dutch Groceries, Cheese Products, Licorice, Indonesian Treats, Raisin Bread, Cookies, Koeks, Soups, Spices, Meats & Much More! Shaving and May 2009 Page 5 Friendship Banner From Residents’ Council As you have read elsewhere, the Yard Sale was a great success. Although we seemed to have fewer visitors this year, the sales totals did not reflect this. We ate hamburgers, poffertjes, croquettes and other treats, while we bargained for that something special that we could use or give as a gift to a friend. On top of the barbequed food and treats which we consumed, we could also buy eggs and apples. What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday—making money for DCH and socializing with friends too! There are a few garden plots left if anyone is interested. The spinach is coming up nicely and it will soon be time to plant flowers, beans and zucchini. Please enjoy my tulips in plot A2.
