Program Description
The Associate in Science Transfer (AS-T) degree is designed to
prepare students for entrance into a Bachelor of Arts or
Bachelor of Science program in the Biological Sciences. The
primary focus of the AS-T is on completion of the necessary
math and science requirements for junior standing at
Washington state baccalaureate institutions. Students will be
required to take additional general education courses after
transfer. Biological Sciences are excellent preparation for
graduate studies in Biology, Genetics, Biomedical, Dentistry,
Law, Medicine and Education.
Biological Sciences—What is it?
Biological Sciences is the study of all living organisms, encompassing plants, animals and microorganisms.
From molecular and cellular biology, to genetics, ecosystems and evolution, Biological Sciences is one of the
broadest fields in science.
Areas of study in Biological Sciences: Botany/Plant Science, Ecology and Wildlife, Zoology, Entomology,
Genetics, Microbiology, Biomedical, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Pathology, Virology and Neurobiology.
Career Opportunities—What can I do with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences?
Graduates in Biological Sciences develop strong critical thinking, problem solving and technical skills for
entry level positions as laboratory assistants, research assistants and technicians in various work
environments. Advanced degrees and licensures are often required for specialization in Biological Sciences.
Potential employers include: Zoos and Aquariums, Wildlife Preserves, State and Federal Government such
as the National Science Foundation, Environmental Protection Agencies and Public Health Departments;
Non-profit Medical and Environmental Organizations, Biotechnology Companies, Scientific Instrument
Companies, Hospitals, Public and Private Schools, Colleges and Universities. For more, please visit
www.shoreline.edu/advising/counseling-services/career-counseling.aspx .
Transfer Possibilities—Where can I transfer?

Associate in Science Transfer (AS-T)—Track 1
The AS-T degree transfers as a package to most baccalaureate colleges and universities in Washington state, satisfying most pre-major requirements
and some general education courses for junior standing. The AS-T degree requires 90 quarter credits in college-level courses numbered 100 or
above with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. Each individual course must have a minimum grade of 1.0. In addition, this planning guide identifies
specific courses to take within the degree to prepare students for entrance into baccalaureate majors in Biological Sciences.
See the reverse side for a complete listing of courses that fulfill the general education and distribution requirements.
