Dear Parishioners and Visitors,
Two weeks ago, members of our Finance Committee stood before you at our Masses to explain the very difficult financial situation the parish was in due to the double whammy of flooding last August and the constant snow these past
months. Unexpected, but not surprising problems with our side stairways added to the burden. Today, at all the Masses,
I can report that thanks to your generosity, we have received $20,000 toward paying those bills! How generous those of
you who helped are. Thank you so much! (At the same time, you have made my bank account a whole lot lighter than I
anticipated with my promise of adding 10% of the total!)
While this has helped us somewhat to deal with the immediate problems, there are still other systemic challenges that we
have to face to get our beloved parish on a more stable financial footing. The amount we collected represents slightly
more than what we lost in collections due to snow storms, so it is not as much of a windfall as it appears. In the coming
weeks/months, our Finance Committee will be planning some options to present to you. For example, one option being
introduced in many parishes is direct payment on a regular basis from a checking account or a credit card. It has proved
to be very helpful for parishes as well as individuals/families, particulary in months like we just came through, when
there was such a rollercoaster ride of income due to weather.
Again, thank you so much for a generous response. Extra support is still welcome. Just put it into the collection along
with your regular contribution. Keep it separate and marked “snow,” so that we can keep a running total. ~ Fr. Jim

BASEBALL LEAGUE PUT “ON HOLD”
St. Margaret Baseball/Softball League has been a part of our
parish life for many years. In some periods it thrived; while in
other periods, the parish had to allow the League to go into
“hibernation,” and see what the future would bring. At the
present, we are in one of these fallow times.
During the last several years, different groups of people tried
to keep it going. But the number of adults who volunteered to
coach and the number of children kept declining. With Fr.
Paul as the Moderator, several efforts were made to create a
board of parishioners to oversee the league, but met with no
success. While there were no new offers to be coaches, several past coaches have taken their teams to other leagues. Also,
with very few families inquiring about registration, we knew
the decision had been made for us. So, until a more organized
effort on the part of interested parents/other adults emerges,
there can be no league in the foreseeable future. (We have
relinquished the permits issued us by Middle Country School
District for other fields so that those community fields can
continue to serve the community). If you are interested in
planning for the future, or have questions, please call Fr. Paul
at the Rectory.
