As we go over the safety procedures for the microscope lab, listen for and write down the answers to
these questions.
1. What is the proper way to carry a microscope?
2. How much light should be let through the diaphragm at the start?
3. Which objective should you start with?
4. What must you never do with the objective?
5. Which adjustment knob should be used first to focus the image in the eyepiece?
6. What is the proper way to clean up a lab area when you are done with your microscope?
7. Now that you know how to work a microscope, it is time to practice. You and your partner will
each look at 3 prepared slides under the microscope. For each slide, you will write the name of
the slide, write five different complete sentence observations you noticed about observing the
slide, and draw a sketch of what you see.

8. With Mr. Marshall’s assistance, at his lab station, you will prepare two wet mount slides. One of
your cheek, and one of a piece of lettuce or onion. Prepare the mounts, then write five different
complete sentence observations and a sketch of what you see under the microscope.
