PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE—
IS THERE A NEED FOR A LOCAL CHAPTER?
Last month I talked about a big change for our chapter, that is, going to quarterly
meetings rather than the 8 that we’ve had for years. I haven’t heard much feedback other
than an occasional “it’s OK.” Our purpose is not to increase attendance (fewer meetings
more attendance?), but to give the officers more time to spend on tasks involving CPE,
business partners and student chapters. As we develop our strategy for the 2005-06 fiscal
year, a larger question arises. IS THERE A NEED FOR A LOCAL CHAPTER?
The monthly IMA National status report usually says, membership in the U.S.A. is down
and the chapters overwhelmingly report attendance is down. Does that mean that there
isn’t a need for local chapters, is it because business has changed so much that members
no longer see the advantages, or does it mean that we are stretched in too many different
directions and something has to give? We all know that networking is key to finding that
next job when you need it (and you never know when that will be), but putting the time
into networking now is crucial to success.
So what is the answer? I’ve been an IMA member for over 20 years and am living proof
of its ability to provide networking opportunities and presenting topics that keep you on
the edge of excellence. But it takes a chapter, not just a hand full of individuals to make
that happen. As we go into our strategy planning time, the chapter board will be asking
the question, is there a need for a local chapter.
Please let me know what you think: jagnow@charter.net or 989-781-5050. I can only
assume by your silence that your answer is no. I hope that is not how you truly feel.
Spring is here and that means change. It’s always a hopeful time of year with nature
beginning to wake up and show us how beautiful things can be. Your chapter is ready for
change, that is, changing for the better. Join us and be part of the change:
