President’s Message
Peter MacKinnon
I want to express a very warm welcome to the graduates, families and friends who
join us today. Convocation is the University’s most important ceremony, for it is
here that we celebrate the accomplishments of our students and the contributions
of their loved ones to their success. You should be proud of this day and of the
commitment and sacrifice that it represents.
We at the University of Saskatchewan are very proud of our accomplishments, and
it is thanks in large part to you, our students, who have helped us to achieve our
goal of building a world-class institution of higher learning.
As we celebrate our successes with pride and anticipate our future with excitement,
the University of Saskatchewan is ready to expand on the original vision of our
founders. Our mission now is to engage fully in all we do, to enlighten all we serve,
and to explore all aspects of our world. We hope that you—our graduates—will
carry on this same mission as you engage, enlighten and explore within your own
new life.
We extend to you our very best wishes for the future. We hope that you will stay in
touch with us through our University of Saskatchewan alumni family, and that we
will have the opportunity to welcome you ‘home’ to our campus many times in the
years ahead.
Warmest congratulations!

Convocation is a great opportunity to reflect on our past accomplishments and look
to the future. The leaders and builders of University of Saskatchewan had great vision
and expectations for the U of S. I think that you would agree that our University has
emerged as a great Canadian university and, in areas of academic preeminence, we
are recognized as world leaders. The University of Saskatchewan is a place where
great minds meet.
As the graduates receive their degrees today, they join a larger community of over
125,000 U of S alumni worldwide. For more than 100 years, our graduates have
become leaders in their chosen professions and enhanced the profile and reputation
of the University of Saskatchewan. This responsibility has been passed to you to
become our new leaders and innovators. Create a legacy that future U of S students
and alumni can celebrate over the next century. And don’t forget to stay connected
with your University, your College and your classmates during your lifelong journey.
Use your energy to live well, take time to celebrate your many successes and
continue to develop your great mind. Congratulations to the class of 2008.

Population
In 1907, the year the University of
Saskatchewan was established, the
population of Saskatoon was roughly
4,500 and the province of Saskatchewan,
210,000.
Saskatoon’s population today tops 200,000;
Saskatchewan’s grazes the million mark.
Students/Faculty
In 1909, five faculty members taught the
first group of 70 students. Classes were
initially held in the Drinkle building in
downtown Saskatoon.
Currently more than 1,000 faculty members
mentor a student body of nearly 20,000.

Colleges
Arts & Science and Agriculture were the
first two colleges to be established at the
U of S—in 1908 and 1909, respectively.
Today, 13 colleges and four schools offer
58 degrees, diplomas and certificates in
over 100 areas of study.
Tuition
In 1909, tuition fees were $6 per class.
Today the cost ranges from approximately
$800 to $1,400 per class.
graduates
In 1912, the U of S honoured its first
graduating class of seven students. The
ceremony was held at Nutana Collegiate.
At this year’s Convocation spring and fall
ceremonies, we will honour nearly 4,000
new graduates.

Saskatoon had been chosen as home to the province's University
T
he University of
Saskatchewan was
established by the University
Act on April 3, 1907, only 18 months
after Saskatchewan became a
province.
The people of the province, as well as
their government, were instrumental
in shaping the new University. The
provincial government requested
all residents who were graduates
of a Canadian or British university
to form the first Convocation and
elect the University’s Senate. In
1908, the Board selected Professor
6
Walter Charles Murray, of Dalhousie
University, as the first President.
Classes in Arts and Science began
in September, 1909, in downtown
Saskatoon. Construction of the
campus began in 1910 and the first
buildings were occupied in the fall
of 1912. They included the College
Building (Administration Building),
Saskatchewan Hall (a student
residence), residences for the Dean
of Agriculture and the President,
a laboratory for Engineering and a
number of farm buildings.

With sights firmly fixed on the future,
the University of Saskatchewan has
embarked on an ambitious effort to advance
its already significant contribution of
knowledge, innovation and leadership to the
people and economy of this province, this
country and the world.
Our plan commits energy and resources where
they count the most—to enhancing the student
experience, to encouraging collaboration and
to supporting research, scholarly and artistic
endeavour.
Success will require that University of
Saskatchewan students be well prepared to
thrive in the ‘knowledge age,’ that they be
equipped to succeed. In the coming years,
the University will explore improvement and
innovation both inside the classroom and out,
all the while ensuring the campus remains
a welcoming place for Aboriginal students,
students from other parts of Canada and those
from nations around the world.
The future will also see the University establish
across the institution a culture of research
and scholarship that attracts top faculty and
students. Supporting this move are world-class
facilities that are already in place, like the
Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization
(VIDO), or are under construction, such as
the $251-million Academic Health Sciences
project. These and other facilities will play
a role in shining the light on current and
emerging areas of excellence.
In keeping with our founders’ early vision,
the University of Saskatchewan will continue
to be a model of innovation, excellence,
diversity and leadership throughout the
post‑secondary education sector, and beyond.
Fall Convocation 2008
T
C
he word “Convocation” arises from the Latin
“cum” meaning “together,” and “vocare”
meaning “to call.” Our Convocation ceremony
is a calling together of the new graduates of the
University of Saskatchewan, symbolizing the historical
practice of calling together all former graduates. In
current times, the major functions of Convocation
are the election of representatives to University
governing bodies and the admission of candidates to
degrees. The Chancellor, elected by Convocation as its
Chair, is the highest official and spokesperson of the
University.
The Convocation ceremony marks the transition from
the role of student to the holder of a degree with its
accompanying rights and privileges.
University of Saskatchewan
The ceremony, solemnized in the presence of the
University community and family and friends of
the graduands, consists of three parts: a procession
marking the leaving of the old status and entering the
new; the President’s statement to the graduands, the
Secretary’s petition and the Chancellor’s consent for
their admission; followed by individual presentation
by their Dean and admission by the Chancellor to the
degrees to which they are entitled. As graduates are
admitted to their degrees, a graduation hood, which
has a colour symbolizing a particular degree, is placed
over each graduate’s head.

the following order: Graduands
in the order in which their
degrees are to be conferred;
Faculty; Board of Governors;
Senate; Guests of Honour; The
President; The Chancellor;
The Lieutenant Governor. When
the members of Convocation reach
their places they remain standing
during the Vice-Regal Salute,
the singing of O Canada and the
Invocation.
The University Secretary on behalf
of all the Candidates, addresses
the Chancellor and Senate in these
words:
Order of the Ceremony
The first business is the Conferring
of Honorary Degrees, followed by
Convocation Address, President’s
Statement to the Graduands,
the Conferring of Degrees and
the Presentation of Awards. The
meeting is closed by the Chancellor
rising and asking the audience to
join in the singing of God Save the
Queen and leading the procession
in the reverse order out of the hall.
Degree Ceremony
The ceremony comprises the Petition,
the Admission, and the Presentation.

The Chancellor then addresses the
candidates in these words:
“By virtue of the authority vested
in me by the Legislature of this
Province, and with the consent of
the Council of this University, I
consent to admit you to the degrees
and certificates to which you are
entitled and to invest you with all
the powers, rights and privileges
pertaining thereto.”
the PRESENTATION
The Dean of the Faculty, or
designate, followed by the
candidates of that Faculty,
approaches the Chancellor from
the left and presents the candidates
with these words: 9
“Eminent Chancellor, on behalf of
the Faculty of ______, I present to
you these Scholars and ask that you
will confer on them the degree of

As the Dean speaks the candidate’s
name in full, the candidate moves
forward in front of the Chancellor.
Then the Chancellor says, “I admit
you” and the University Secretary or
the Registrar places the hood over
the candidate’s head. Hereupon the
candidate passes to the Chancellor’s
right, is greeted by the President,
and receives the degree parchment.
Degrees in Absentia
In such cases, the University
Secretary says:
“Eminent Chancellor, in the name of
the Faculties, I ask you to grant the
degrees and certificates, in absentia,
to those students whose names

who were not able to be present
today.”
The Chancellor replies:
“At the request of the Faculties
I authorize these degrees and
certificates to be granted.

The Convocation Ceremony
Academic Costumes
Academic costume lends an element of
colourful pageantry to the Convocation
proceedings. This traditional clothing—
worn on a daily basis at universities in
earlier times—is now more commonly
reserved for ceremonial functions.
At the University of Saskatchewan,
the following academic costume
is adopted to be worn upon all
appropriate occasions:
The gown resembles a long cape
with full sleeve cut to elbow and
terminating in a point for the
Bachelor’s degree; with long sleeve
and a semi-circular cut at the bottom
for the Master’s degree; and with round
open sleeves for the Doctor’s degree.
The material is black for the Bachelor’s
degree, and black material or silk for
the Master’s and Doctor’s degrees.
The Doctor’s gown may have a border
down the front on either side of a
color distinctive of the character of the
degree.
The hoods for the Bachelor’s and
Master’s degrees are of black
broadcloth. For the Doctor’s (Ph.D.)
degree the hood is scarlet cloth with a
blue lining. The Master’s and Doctor’s
hoods have a lining and the Bachelor’s
an edging (and in some cases, a lining)
of a color distinctive of the character of
the degree.

Honorary Doctor of Laws
Paul-AndrÉ CrÉpeau
Paul-André Crépeau was born in
Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan on May
20th, 1926, and the Crépeau family
was part of the early history and
politics of Saskatchewan. However,
following the sudden death of his
father, a young Crépeau and his
mother left Saskatchewan in 1943 and
settled in Ottawa where Crépeau’s two
sisters had joined the Civil Service
and where he pursued his academic
studies at the University of Ottawa.
Dr. Crépeau went on to an
extraordinary career, training as a
University of Saskatchewan
Rhodes Scholar in common law and
comparative law at the University of
Oxford and attaining a doctorate in
classical civil law from the Université
de Paris. He has six earned degrees
from the University of Ottawa (1946,
1947), the Université de Montreal
(1950), the University of Oxford (as a
Rhodes Scholarship Recipient, 1952),
the Université de Paris (1955) and the
International Faculty of Comparative
Law of Strasbourg (1959). Professor
Crépeau has also received seven
Honorary Doctorates from universities
in Canada and Europe. Throughout his
long and highly distinguished career,
Professor Crépeau has always paid
tribute to his formative years growing
up in Saskatchewan.
Professor Crépeau is widely recognized
in the university community in
Canada as one of the founders of the
academic tradition in the law and is
generally hailed as the spiritual father
of the Civil Code of Quebec and the
Quebec Charter of Human Rights
and Freedoms. His work in the law of
obligations and Private International
Law over nearly fifty years at McGill
University has set the highest standard
14
for teaching and scholarship in law
in Canada. He has written prolifically
in French and English and his many
books and articles on the Civil Law
are considered to have shaped the
development of the law over the
last generation. Professionally, his
unflagging leadership in learned
societies has been a strong theme
throughout his career.
Professor Crépeau, a Fellow of the
Royal Society of Canada, was made
a Companion of the Order of Canada
in 1992. He is winner of Quebec’s
highest honour for academic work in
the humanities and the social sciences
(Prix Léon-Gérin). In recognition of his
contribution to internationalism and
the law, the Canadian Bar Association
created the “Paul-André Crépeau
Medal in International Commercial
Law” in 2001.
Professor Crépeau now makes his
home in Quebec where he was
intimately involved in the reform of the
Civil Code of Quebec and as Director
Emeritus of the Centre for Private and
Comparative Law at McGill, which he
founded in 1975.

M. Jim Hendry
migration of contaminants in the
subsurface of the earth.
Dr. M. Jim Hendry is an internationally
renowned researcher in aqueous and
environmental geochemistry, and he
currently holds an unprecedented
third five-year term at the University
of Saskatchewan (U of S) as a Senior
NSERC Industrial Chair.
In 1995, Dr. Hendry became the
first-ever appointee to the position
of Endowed Cameco Research Chair
in Aqueous and Environmental
Geochemistry in the Department of
Geological Sciences, U of S,
where he established and now
leads a large, highly productive,
internationally recognized research
group that studies the long-term
University of Saskatchewan
Much of the research that is
undertaken by Dr. Hendry and his
research group is directly relevant to
the mining (uranium, potash, and the
oil sands) sector, not only in Canada
but also around the world. His findings
have allowed industries to better
evaluate the potential environmental
impact of their waste rock and mine
tailings, and his research into the
short- and long-term migration of
contaminants through clay-rich media
is being used as a benchmark for
nuclear-waste disposal. His clay-based
research has also assisted the potash
industry to assess the long-term impact
of brines and led to additional research
on behalf of Syncrude Canada Ltd.
into the long-term containment of
sulfuric acid produced in oil-sands
development.
Dr. Hendry’s research expertise has
been recognized by the international
scientific community through such
prestigious awards as the Distinguished
Henry Darcy Lectureship (2000), the
John Hem Award for Excellence in
Science and Engineering (2003), and
the U of S Distinguished Researcher
Award (2006). In September, 2008,
15
Dr. Hendry and Cameco Corporation
were presented with the highly
prestigious Synergy Award from
NSERC, an annual prize that honours
the most outstanding achievements
resulting from university-industry
collaboration.
Born in Scotland, Jim immigrated to
Canada as a child, and spent his youth
living in both northern and southern
Ontario. He received his Ph.D. in
hydrogeology from the University of
Waterloo in 1984. Prior to joining
the U of S in 1995, he worked as a
consultant for firms in Ontario and
British Columbia, established and led
groundwater research groups for both
provincial and federal government
agencies, and was director of research
for the world’s largest international
groundwater association.
Dr. Hendry has published more than
125 refereed scientific papers and
his expertise is frequently sought by
the private sector and governments.
The dimensions of the global social
benefits to communities worldwide
of Dr. Hendry’s research, from clean
secure groundwater resources and a
protected environment, are likely to
be only fully gauged in the next half
century.

His major research interest focuses on
the population ecology of mammals,
specifically species at risk in Canada
such as grizzly and polar bears. The
research programme of Messier is
directed at ecological phenomena
influencing the population dynamics
of large mammals. The research
findings of his lab were pivotal in
addressing key conservation issues
dealing with human harvest, habitat
losses, and diseases in mammalian
wildlife in Canada. Probably his most
important scientific contribution
relates to the far better ecological
knowledge we now have for polar

conservation issues for this wildlife
species are growing due to global
environmental changes.
All through his career, the training of
graduate students has always been of
utmost priority. Messier supervised to

students, in addition to the two Ph.D.
and one M.Sc. currently pursuing
their graduate programmes. Three
of his students now hold academic
appointments and five others are

doctoral student at the University
of Alberta where he taught political
science in Aboriginal social work
programs across Northern Alberta.
In 1991, he spent four months in
Siberia working in remote Indigenous
communities and has been to Russia
more than twenty times since. Prior to
coming to U of S, Poelzer was Chair
of the Department of Political Science
University of Saskatchewan
In 2003, Poelzer joined the
Department of Political Studies and
was appointed the inaugural Dean
of Undergraduate Studies of the
University of the Arctic (UArctic),
an international consortium of 110
universities, colleges, and Indigenous
organizations from the eight Arctic
states. From 2003 to 2008, Poelzer
provided visionary leadership in the
development and delivery of the
Circumpolar Studies (BCS) curriculum,
and as head of the Canadian national
funding team. His efforts helped
the program grow from 66 students
internationally in 2003 to see more
than 5000 completing UArctic courses
by 2008. The extremely popular
student exchange programs offered
through UArctic’s North2North
program feature U of S consistently
having the largest number of outgoing
students and scholarship recipients.
Since 2006, successive cohorts of
Northern and Aboriginal students
from Norway, Russia, Canada,
and Iceland have graduated with
bachelor's degrees through UArctic
programming.
18
Through UArctic Poelzer has brought
together two goals of University of
Saskatchewan—internationalization
and sense of place, the North.
He takes particular pride in the
innovative cooperation among
UArctic, Northlands College, and
University of Saskatchewan. This
past year, Canada's first graduates
through UArctic programming came
from Northern Saskatchewan—
Buffalo Narrows, Creighton, and La
Ronge. These students were able to
complete university degrees in their
communities by taking courses on-line
with other students internationally.
His efforts, enthusiasm and vision have
unified 110 international organizations
around a single project and have seen
numerous foreign guests visiting U of S to
seek further collaboration. He has raised
our profile internationally, increased
student mobility, and dramatically
expanded educational access to northern
residence across the globe.
This September Poelzer was appointed
Interim Director of the International
Centre for Governance and
Development where he most assuredly
will continue to do extraordinary work
supporting the Internationalization of
University of Saskatchewan.

Master Teacher Award
Angela Ward
does not depend only on particular
instructional strategies and techniques,
but on creating a learning community
where students feel able to question
their own assumptions, link content to
practical and professional knowledge
and to develop critical and creative
perspectives on education.
Angela Ward completed her BA degree
in English Language and Literature at
the University of London (UK), her
MEd at UBC and her PhD at the
University of Victoria. Through more
than thirty years of teaching and
learning in western and northern
Canada, Ward has come to understand
that education permeates almost
everything she does. Her teaching
University of Saskatchewan
As a classroom teacher in
British Columbia, Ward learned
responsiveness to cultural difference
as she taught First Nations students
in elementary and high schools. The
aspiration to support social justice
for indigenous peoples has been a
thread in professional and academic
activities undertaken throughout her
18 years teaching undergraduate and
graduate students at the University of
Saskatchewan.
Teaching in a professional college
demands multiple layers of
engagement. There is certainly content
to be learned, but it is content that has
application to the field of education.
19
As a teacher educator Ward helps
teacher candidates focus on processes
of learning, set educational goals in
a range of contexts, manage learning
environments and engage their own
students. Ward has team-taught with
several faculty members, developing
innovative integrated courses in social
studies and language arts methods,
and is currently out in schools
supervising intern teachers during their
extended practicum experiences.
For Ward, teaching does not reside
only in the classroom. Her writing
and research also contribute to the
field of education. As well as papers
at academic conferences, she has also
presented many workshops on a range
of literacy issues to teachers in North
America, Europe, Guatemala and
Kazakhstan. Ward envisions her work
as preparing teacher candidates for
teaching in an open, inclusive Canada
that recognizes the varying rights and
responsibilities of all members of our
society.
Fall Convocation 2008
Award for Distinction in Outreach and Engagement
Sarah Buhler
Sarah Buhler, a sessional lecturer
in the College of Law, has been
recognized for distinction in outreach
and engagement for her outstanding
contributions to legal assistance. She
has made an exceptional contribution
to the legal community through her
involvement with the re-establishment
of the Clinical Legal Education
program for the College of Law and
her work in Saskatoon’s inner city
community through Community Legal
Assistance Services for Saskatoon
Inner City, a not for profit agency and
poverty law clinic known as CLASSIC.
University of Saskatchewan
CLASSIC provides free legal assistance
to low-income clients, with a special
emphasis on addressing needs of the
inner city Aboriginal community.
CLASSIC programming consists of a
Walk-in Advocacy Clinic and a Legal
Advice Clinic (LAC). Buhler serves as
the Executive Director and Supervising
Lawyer in overseeing the student
lawyers, recruiting volunteer lawyers
and engaging the community. Students
gain practical legal experience, insights
into the social reality of law and social
justice as well as new cultural
understandings. The exciting aspect of
this has been the engagement of the
community through referrals from other
agencies in the City, and strong
partnerships built with fellow community
organizations. CLASSIC is also involved
with community outreach in the form
of public legal education initiatives.
One of her nominators described
Sarah’s teaching and engagement
efforts as having “a powerful
experience for students, most of
whom have no other opportunity to
become involved with Saskatoon’s
inner city community. It is the kind of
experience that opens doors for future
collaborative initiatives and good will.
It is the kind of experience that brings
the University into the community in a
very concrete way.” Another nominator
said that Buhler “has demonstrated
her involvement with lifelong learning
and continuing education, service
and clinical learning…[and] she has
enhanced the community partnerships
that are essential to the success of
CLASSIC.”
Buhler’s outreach and engagement
CLASSIC has received the Law Society
of Saskatchewan’s C. Willy Hodgson
Award for exemplifying integrity,
leadership and character and making
contributions to advancing equity and
diversity in legal education. CLASSIC
also was honoured with the prestigious
Canadian National Pro Bono Award in
September 2008.
20
activities have had substantial impact
and long-term significance for the
University, for the lives of clients,
the inner city and the broader legal
community. She is truly deserving
of the University of Saskatchewan’s
Award for Distinction in Outreach and
Engagement.
Fall Convocation 2008
President's Service Award
Catherine Gunderson
Singlehandedly at first, then with
the help of student volunteers, she
transformed what was simply a
collection of replicas of ancient art
into a true museum by establishing
proper filing and record-keeping
systems, developing guides and setting
up an award-winning web page. It was
a time of much “on the job” learning
as she dedicated extensive time and
energy to learning about curatorial
practices and museum management.
Cathy Gunderson has devoted the past
25 years to slowly and methodically
transforming the university’s unique
Museum of Antiquities from a littleknown and sequestered resource into
a campus centerpiece where students,
faculty and visitors can find common
ground for study and dialogue. Her
persistence, skillful management and
dedication to the museum have earned
her the University of Saskatchewan’s
President’s Service Award.
Educated in classics and ancient
history, Gunderson began work as
the part-time museum administrator
in 1983, when it was housed on
the second floor of the main library.
University of Saskatchewan
Gunderson was responsible
for establishing the day-to-day
management of the museum,
including a policy and procedure
manual while at the same time playing
a key role in acquisitions. Working
with an advisory committee, she
oversaw the growth of the collection
through donations and through her
energetic pursuit of grants and other
funding opportunities.
Her success at expanding the museum
collection created a critical crowding
situation in its library location, but
with the restoration of the College
Building, Gunderson saw an
opportunity to move the museum to a
much-deserved higher profile locale
on campus. Her widely acknowledged
skill as a negotiator played an
21
important role in the museum
becoming a much more visible and
accessible asset when it was moved
into coveted space in the College
Building in 2005.
As the collection expanded,
Gunderson worked hard to ensure
key pieces—the Charioteer of Delphi,
the Rosetta stone and the Venus
di Milo—anchored the museum’s
permanent exhibit while special
exhibits highlighted new acquisitions
and special parts of the collection.
The museum is also a vital resource
for university students, teachers and
researchers, providing a ‘laboratory’
filled with physical evidence of the
ancient world. Summer camps for
young children that allow them to
learn and explore that ancient world
are another of this innovative museum
director’s initiatives.
Scholarship, administration,
acquisitions, exhibits, education
programming and mentoring
of museum volunteers—Cathy
Gunderson’s days are full as this
professional, versatile and resourceful
woman continues to devote herself
to what has become a truly vibrant
Museum of Antiquities at the
University of Saskatchewan.

Distinguished Researcher Award
Roanne Thomas-MacLean
struggles of breast cancer survivors,
such as the Visualizing Breast Cancer
project. This project asked Aboriginal
women to photograph their breast
cancer experiences in an effort to
put new and more diverse faces on
the disease. Impressively, the women
from this study have met with breast
health organizations to begin to create
policies that recognize the needs of
women diagnosed with breast cancer.
The Distinguished Researcher Award
recognizes a faculty member’s
contribution to scholarship through
creation, expansion, and critique of
knowledge. Roanne Thomas-MacLean,
associate professor of sociology, is the
Fall 2008 award recipient.
Professor Thomas-MacLean has
demonstrated that she is a major
contributor to primary health care and
women’s health research. Colleagues
have described her as a leading
researcher of her generation and an
ambassador for the University of
Saskatchewan.
This high praise results from unique
research endeavors that address the
University of Saskatchewan
In another innovative study called
Charting the Course of Arm Morbidity
in Breast Cancer, Thomas-MacLean
is focusing on the long-term impact
of disability after breast cancer. With
support from the Canadian Institutes
of Health Research and Canadian
Breast Cancer Research Alliance, she
is working with 745 breast cancer
survivors. According to her colleagues,
it is generating worldwide interest as it
is the largest arm morbidity study ever
conducted.
These studies and new approaches
to mixed-methods research have
resulted in 15 peer-reviewed articles
in prominent publications such as
Social Science & Medicine, Oncology
Nursing Forum, Canadian Family
Physician and Qualitative Health
Research. She has also contributed
chapters to books on healthcare
22
ethics, cross-cultural research, and
women’s health.
Thomas-MacLean’s growing reputation
as a prominent health researcher
has been recognized by peers and
national research agencies. The
Canadian Breast Cancer Research
Alliance, Ontario Women’s Health
Directorate and Canadian Institutes of
Health Research have recruited her to
participate in a peer review committee
and contribute to workshops.
Beyond research, Thomas-MacLean
is known for mentoring students. She
is supervising eight graduate students
and participating in several graduate
committees. Her graduate students are
researching photovoice, ethnodrama,
the meaning of work for physicians
and young adults at end of life.
She began her academic career by
completing a BA in sociology from
Trent University. Following this,
Thomas-MacLean completed a
master’s degree and PhD in sociology
at the University of New Brunswick.
She then held a postdoctoral
fellowship with the University of
Western Ontario until she joined the
University of Saskatchewan as an
assistant professor in 2004.
