Designed by Bob Nicol who saw shortcomings In the mouth sticks available at the time. the M-Stick's open structure design m inimises tooth wear and gagging whilst allowing easier breathing and talking. The M-Stick is an alternative to a head pointer for use by individuals who have limited functional use of their hands. It is suitable for operating an electric typewriter and/or computer keyboard and turning pages. INSTRUCTIONS I The M-Stick minimises orthodontically distorting pressures in individual teeth because the shape of it allows random placement in the mouth. You can help to save your teeth by;• Varying the adjustme nt of your M-Stlck • Frequently changing sticks • Frequently c hanging the position of the M-Stick in your mouth If you experience any tooth problems whilst using the M-Stlc k, c onsult your d entist at the earliest opportunity. You will find that your M-Stlc k Is bent Into an approximate shape. Your carer will need to adjust your M-Stick to meet your exact requirements. It may take a little time, but with a bit of experimenting, your corer con bend the M-Stick so that it suits you perfectly and you will be rewarded with a comfortable and useful implem ent. 1 The M-Stick is designed to occupy the relaxed free space between your teeth so that you may retain It in your mouth with minimum effort and without tiring too easily. It Is important that your M-Stlc k Is adjusted so that It fits In your mouth c o mfortably when you ore relaxed. This way it will be comfortable all of the lime. 2 What is relaxed free space? Relax your mouth. (Without the M-Stic k in It). With your tongue. you can feel that there is a small space between your upper and lower teeth. In other words. when your jaw is relaxed, your upper and lower sets of teeth are slightly aport and not touching. 3 If shaped properly, the M end of your M-Stick should be slightly thicker than the relaxed free space. In other words, the 'M' or mouthpiece end of your M-stick should hold your teeth slightly furth er apart than yo ur relaxed free space. 4 If this Is not the case. get your carer to bend the c entre of the 'M' slightly up so that the centre of the 'M' touches your front top teeth. This should increase comfort by inc reasing the apparent thickness of the mouth piece. 5 Now put the M-Stic k back in your mouth and bite on the stick. You should find a slight springiness. Relax again. The stick should NOT be adjusted so far that it ho ld s your mouth ope n. but the springiness should hold the M-Stick in your mouth. without you having to bite. Your reflex ac tion will be to bile firmly on each key stroke or page turn, but this is not necessary. It is only when you want to do some 'heavier work'. that you m ight need to bite. For general day to day cleaning, we suggest that your corer wipes your M-Stlck with Vanilla Essence (or any other flavoured essence if you do not like vanilla). Essences are made of a perfect mix ot alcohol and water, making them on excellent antiseptic. For a more thorough clean, treat the M-stlck like any other cutlery. and wash with dish-washing detergent. Do not clean the M-Stlck by placing In a dishwasher because the heat of a dishwasher may m e lt the plastic coating. NEED MORE INFORMATION?
