UTS Business School IMPORTANT Information for Business Students! Academic Caution and Early Intervention Information Sheet – Autumn 2016 The advice/information outlined below is designed to assist you in your studies at UTS Business School to prevent further academic caution, early intervention and/or exclusion: 1. Complete the online Reflection Exercise and then enrol in one of the Academic Caution or Early Intervention workshop applicable to your circumstances. 2. Attend a UTS: HELPS Program. Higher Education Language and Presentation Support or HELPS is dedicated to provide English language and academic literacy support to UTS undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students. 3. The Business School also have a website “Study and Assessment Resources” to assist you with your academic writing. 4. Attend ALL lectures and tutorials as specified on your ‘Subject Outline’, and/or on the UTS Class Timetable. 5. If you experience problems with understanding the topics in your subject; you are strongly advised to note the services available to you, and undertake the necessary/available steps outlined in sequence order below: 5.1 Contact your Tutor/Lecturer and/or Subject Coordinator directly. Note: The names, and contact details of your Tutor/Lecturer and Subject Coordinator are specified on your ‘Subject Outline’. 5.2 Check the website for U-PASS Program and register in the relevant subject; or 5.3 Contact Student Association on 9514 1155 and arrange for a Peer Tutoring session. 6. Academic Liaison Officers are responsible for determining alternative assessment arrangements for students with disabilities. Please contact the academic liaison if you need assistance. 7. If you have personal issues affecting your studies requiring counselling; you are strongly advised to contact Student Services Unit on 9514 1177 and make an appointment with UTS Counsellors. If you decide to change your Study Plan, eg. delete / add Majors, Sub-majors; you must lodge an e-Request via https://studentforms.uts.edu.au/evop/ well before the start of semester. Due to LIMITED places in subjects, students lodging an e-Request for "Changes to Study Plan" outside of the specified timeline, undertake the risk of not being able to enrol into the subject(s) within the new Major/Sub-major sub-structure(s). 9. Students should be aware of the University Rules in relation to academic progression to prevent the risk of being placed on exclusion. UTS Progression Rules is under Section 10 Academic Progression (http://www.gsu.uts.edu.au/rules/10-index.html). Undergraduate Students: To satisfy the required minimum rate of progress a student must gain no less than fifty per cent of the credit points for the subjects in which the student has been enrolled since the commencement of enrolment in the course. Postgraduate BUSINESS Students (http://www.handbook.uts.edu.au/bus/area/pg.html#progression ): Postgraduate students will have their enrolment discontinued if they fail: • • • • two subjects in a graduate certificate; three subjects in a graduate diploma; four subjects in a master's degree; or five subjects in the MBA. Note that Undergraduate and Postgraduate Coursework students who have been excluded /discontinued are no longer students at the University and cannot continue attending classes, enrol or change their program. Access to computer accounts, Library and all University services is cancelled. Exclusion is for two semesters. Students may reapply for entry to the University at the end of the period of exclusion. Students who wish to apply for readmission to a course must follow normal admission procedures. Readmission to a course after exclusion is not automatic.
