A Course Outline for Students
Course Description:
Spanish V Honors
0.5 Credit each Semester
Spanish 5 expands the skills acquired by students in Spanish 4. Specific content to be covered includes, but is not
limited to, developing presentational speaking skills through oral reports on literary and cultural topics, current
events, and personal experiences. Reading selections include newspaper and magazine articles, adaptations of
short stories and plays, and surveys of target language literature. Interpretive writing is enhanced through
compositions using correct language structures. Continued emphasis is placed on the development of listening,
speaking, reading and writing skills. The culture of the Spanish speaking countries is studied through the use of
authentic newspaper and magazine articles, short films, videos, music, and comic strip. Prerequisite:
Recommendation of the Spanish VI teacher.

Absences:
If you are absent from class for any reason be sure to check with me when you return to
find out what you have missed and need to make-up. I do not normally tell you what you have missed,
unless you ask. It is your responsibility to inquire. All tests and quizzes must be made up within three
school days after having been absent for a valid reason. It is your responsibility to see me immediately
about scheduling a time to make up the work. Failure to do so within this specified time will result in a
zero. Please note: If you have not completed the assignment by the time I input the grades for the
class you will be given a zero in the computer UNTIL you make up the work.
General Requirements:
Be prepared for class daily!
Complete all homework assignments.
Study daily.
Participate in class. (Speak Spanish!)
Keep a neat and organized notebook.
Students must be seated in his/her assigned seat and ready for class when the bell rings.
Homework: Homework is the reinforcement of what is taught in class. It is for your benefit and is not
considered busywork. Homework will be checked for a grade. If you do not have your homework when it
is checked you will receive a zero. Usually the homework assignments will be on-line. If you do not have
access at home, remember that the library is open before and after school and they have many computers
with access for you to use.
Spelling:
Words that are spelled incorrectly are wrong. Accents count! Any word that is not
accented properly will be graded accordingly.
Dismissal from class: The teacher, not the bell, will dismiss the class.
Notebook:
There is no notebook required for this class, however, the students are expected to take
notes and keep them organized either electronically (preferred) or in a standard notebook.
Projects:
Obviously, all projects are due on their due date. If however, you are absent, for a
valid reason, on the day it is due, the project is due on the first day you return to class. Do not wait
until the day the project is due to tell me there is a problem.
Supplies:
Each student must come to class prepared every day. This means you always must bring
to class at least one pen/pencil and your Ipad fully charged.
Grading Policy:
Each Quarter grade (2/5 of the Final Semester Grade):

Participation = 20%
Quizzes + Essays = 20%

Exemption Policy:
Seniors who have a minimum grade of A for each quarter (not only an A
average) may exempt the Semester exams.
These rules are necessary in order to have a consistent program. If for any reason you would like to
discuss these rules, please feel free to make an appointment with me at a time convenient to both of us.
Please keep this rule sheet so that you may refer to it from time to time during the school year.
