Memo from CEO Beth Vachon, October 16, 2015

O ver the next few months, the Cypress Health Region will be working to reduce the risk of influenza transmission to our patients, residents, clients and staff. We know how serious influenza can be, especially for the most vulnerable people in our health facilities.

Vaccination continues to be the best way we can protect everyone from this illness.

In 2014, Saskatchewan introduced an Influenza Immunize or Mask policy requiring all employees either to be immunized against influenza or to wear a mask in patient, resident and client care areas during flu season. Given case law developments in British Columbia, and most recently in Ontario, regarding similar immunization policies, we are reviewing whether we need to adjust our policy.

In the interim, Saskatchewan’s Immunize or Mask policy will not be enforced by the Cypress

Health Region during this period of review. While staff and physicians are not required to immunize or mask, we still believe it’s the right thing to do. We are asking that you voluntarily choose to do one or the other.

As health providers, we have a responsibility to protect ourselves and those we serve, and to do whatever it takes to limit the spread of illness. The public relies on us not only to put our patients, residents and clients first but also to be professional and compassionate in our care.

We strongly encourage all staff and physicians to be vaccinated before influenza season starts on

November 30, which Saskatchewan’s Chief Medical Health Officer has declared as the first day of influenza season. Vaccination is available at public health clinics beginning October 19.

Staff and physicians can also be vaccinated at Employee Health clinics throughout the

Region. Immunized staff and physicians will not be required to put a sticker on their

ID badge.

If you have a medical reason not to be vaccinated, we ask that you voluntarily wear a procedure mask when providing direct patient, resident and client care during peak influenza transmission season.

We also ask that during influenza season, visitors to our healthcare facilities get vaccinated, follow hand hygiene and cough etiquette or, if they are ill or just recovering, refrain from visiting.

Patient, resident, client and staff safety is our foremost concern. Saskatchewan’s

Medical Health Officers and all health region leaders believe that getting vaccinated, wearing a mask, hand hygiene and cough etiquette are ways we can lower the risk of influenza transmission.

Thank you for putting our patients, residents and clients first.

Memo from CEO Beth Vachon, November 13, 2015 D uring the past number of years, the membership of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) has been consistent which has led to a environment of continuity within the portfolios. A pending vacancy on SLT has provided the opportunity for the team to review the current structures, positions, and responsibilities.

During our review, the following areas of business within the organization were identified: Acute Care,

Continuing Care, Primary Health Care, Performance and Quality, and Corporate Services. A decision was reached to utilize the expertise, knowledge, and leadership of the remaining SLT members and to reorganize the individual portfolio leadership to reflect the areas of business that were recognized.

As of January 1, 2016, the Cypress Health Region’s Senior Leadership Team will include the following:

Final copies of the organization chart and the individual portfolio organizational charts will be distributed in the near future once all of the reporting structures have been confirmed.

If you have any questions or require clarification in relation to the revised organizational structure, please feel free to contact any member of the SLT team. As is the case with any organizational restructuring, a period of transition will take place – not only between now and January 1, 2016 but also in the months following, to ensure a smooth shift of responsibilities.

Thank you for your ongoing attention.
