School Overview
The International School of Islamabad (ISOI) is a private, coeducational, college preparatory day school.
ISOI offers an American-based curriculum to students of twenty-seven nationalities. The school operates on a semester system and is accredited by Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. ISOI
is an IB World School, offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB/DP) to its first cohort of students, scheduled to graduate in 2014.
Campus
Founded in 1965, ISOI’s campus is located on twenty-three plus acres on the outskirts of Islamabad.
The campus includes Elementary School, Middle School, and High School quads, a gymnasium, an auditorium, an open-air theater, an IB art gallery, a physical education center, tennis courts, a climbing wall,
running track, playing fields, swimming pool, two library media centers, and three technology centers.
Faculty & Students
The school is staffed by thirty-six faculty members, including three administrators: approximately 64%
from North America, 14% from Pakistan, and 22% from the rest of the world. 33% of the faculty hold
Bachelor degrees, 64% hold Master degrees, and 3% hold Doctorates. The total student to staff ratio is
7:1.
There are currently 254 students attending pre-school through grade 12: approximately 13% North
American, 32% Pakistani, and 55% from other countries around the world. There are thirteen students
in the Class of 2014.

Students are admitted on the basis of previous academic records, standardized test scores, a writing
sample and verification of the need for an American curriculum.
Student Services
The school year runs from mid-August to early June and is divided into two semesters. The first semester runs from August to January and the second semester runs from late January to June. The school
follows a two-week, rotating block schedule.

ISOI’s high school program offers rigorous preparation for the IB Diploma Programme in all academic
areas. Students enrolled in Grades 11 and 12 have further opportunities for advanced study, with Higher Level courses available in English A: Language and Literature, Business and Management, History,
Information Technology in a Global Society, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Visual Arts.
Extra-curricular activities include National Honor Society and Leadership Council. ISOI also participates
in Georgetown University’s Model United Nations program. ISOI is a member of the South Asia InterSchool Association (SAISA) along with schools from Bangladesh, India, Oman, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri
Lanka. SAISA schools compete in inter-scholastic athletic competitions, as well as fine and performance arts festivals. Sports include basketball, track and field, soccer, swimming, tennis, volleyball,
badminton and cricket. Through ISOI’s CAS program, a variety of other service opportunities are available, based upon individual student initiatives.

Diploma Requirements &
Grading System
An American High School Diploma is awarded at the end of
grade 12 to students who have satisfactorily met the course
requirements and who have earned a minimum of twentysix credits.
Beginning with the Class of 2014, students have the option
of pursuing the IB Course Certificates as well as the IB Diploma, which includes the additional requirement of successful
completion of the Theory of Knowledge course, the Extended Essay, CAS, and a minimum diploma score of 24.
Classes are not ranked. Valedictorian and Salutatorian
awards are based on GPA only for the purpose of graduation. DP Higher Level courses are not weighted in the
computation of GPA. The cumulative GPA reflects courses
taken at ISOI only. Grades from previous schools are not
included.

Testing Program & Scores
ISOI administers the PSAT, SAT Reasoning & Subject
Tests. The School will offer IB Exams to its first cohort of
students in the spring of 2014. Students in Grades KG-10
take the Otis/Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT), 8th Edition and the NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP)
Tests twice per year.
