The University is flourishing with more than $150 million
in major construction underway, marking the University’s
most ambitious construction program in its history. The
building campaign includes the Student Recreation and
Convocation Center and three major academic buildings.
When complete, the four new buildings will add more
than 231,000 square feet to the main campus.
The University comprises 69 main buildings on 631 acres
including the Coastal Science Center and the Burroughs
& Chapin Center for Marine and Wetland Studies, located
on the East Campus in the Atlantic Center on U.S. 501,
and Quail Creek Golf Club at Coastal Carolina University, a public 18-hole golf facility located adjacent to the
campus and operated by students in the PGA golf management program. The University also offers courses at the
Waccamaw Center for Higher Education in Litchfield
and the Myrtle Beach Education Center. Waties Island,
1,105 acres of pristine barrier island on the Atlantic coast,
provides a natural laboratory for extensive study in marine
science and wetlands biology.

citizens as a two-year junior college. A branch campus of
the University of South Carolina for more than 20 years,
Coastal Carolina began granting four-year degrees in 1974.
The institution became an independent, state-supported university in 1993. CCU is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on

charter member of the Big South Conference. Our studentathletes play hard, compete nationally and succeed in the
classroom. The University’s nationally competitive athletic
program will expand to 18 teams in fall 2012 with the addition of women’s lacrosse. Named for the quick-thinking
rooster from Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, the Chanticleers
have made 80 NCAA championship appearances and have
won 133 Big South Conference championships.

Weekday visits offer our most personalized visit experience.
Students and parents participate in a guided tour and can
meet with an admissions counselor. Tours are offered
September through April at 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday
through Friday. May through August, tours are offered only
at 9:30 a.m. Call ahead for tour availability during the
holidays. Counselor meetings are typically scheduled after
the tour, and appointments are preferred but not required.
Meetings with financial aid counselors, faculty, department
heads or coaches must be scheduled in advance. Our office
will assist you in arranging meetings with these individuals.

Discovery Days offer our most complete visit experience

Carolina and across the U.S. Admissions and financial aid
counselors will be available after the program to answer

DISCOVERY DAYS
Discovery Days offer our most complete visit experience
and occur in the spring semester. You will have the chance
to tour the campus, talk with current students, learn about
our academic programs, and meet other students who
are choosing CCU. These programs typically take place
on a Saturday and attract prospective students from South
Carolina and across the U.S. Admissions and financial aid
counselors will be available after the program to answer
questions. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the program
begins at 9:30 a.m. The program will end at 12:30 p.m.

If you schedule a weekday tour in advance, you will be
mailed a parking permit. If you do not receive a permit in
advance, please ask for one in the Welcome Center when
you arrive for your tour. There are some spaces on campus
designated for visitors, but they are not available at every
building and location. If you are visiting the campus for
a Saturday tour or Discovery Day, follow the directional
signs on campus to the event and park in that area.
From Columbia, S.C.:
Take I-20 to I-95. Go North on I-95. Take exit 170. Follow
S.C. 327 to the intersection with S.C. 576. Turn left onto
S.C. 576 East and follow toward Conway/Myrtle Beach.
S.C. 576 will merge with U.S. 501. Follow U.S. 501
through Conway and the University will be on the right.
