PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT PARTICIPANT POOL Instructions for Course Instructors Thank you for helping us to implement the Concordia University Psychology Department Participant Pool. Among our goals for this endeavor, two were given high priority: making the pool of pedagogical value for students, and keeping the amount of work required by instructors to a minimum. The following brief instructions provide a complete description of your part in the Participant Pool. 1) Add the following text to your course syllabus. (Modify the 6, 3% accordingly.) Participant Pool Credits The department has a participant pool that offers credit for participation in research being conducted in the department. You can find details about the participant pool through the department’s web-site: http://www.psychology.concordia.ca/researchandcentres/participantpool/ You can earn 1 participation credit for each hour (approximately) of research participation. Each participation credit is worth ½ mark towards your final grade. In this course you will be allowed to earn up to 6 participation credits. This means that you can earn up to 3% bonus marks through participation. Please note that participation is completely voluntary and your final grade will not be affected if you do not participate. 2) Make an announcement that your class will be participating in the Pool. Tell students to go to the website listed on your syllabus to obtain (and carefully read) the “Instructions for Students” sheet. Students must know your course and section number! 3) Email your class list (Excel file) to Pat Wilson (Pat.Wilson@concordia.ca) no later than the second week of classes. (Be sure to send a class list for every section you teach.) Within one week following the end of term, Pat will send you an email (Excel file) with your class list and the number of credits each student has earned from their participation in the Pool. Incorporate these credits as per your syllabus. Please do not hesitate to contact Drs. Jennifer McGrath or Virginia Penhune should you have any questions. Sincerely, Jennifer McGrath, Chair, Department Curriculum Committee (Jennifer.McGrath@concordia.ca) Virginia Penhune, Chair, Department Ethics Committee (Virginia.Penhune@concordia.ca)
