And in 2009, he became the first Spanish-language play-by-play announcer for the new MLB Network, broadcasting “Showcase,” the game of the week, on SAP. In addition, Smith Muñiz was one of the lead announcers for Monday Night Football on Univisión Radio, including two Super Bowls, from 2002 through 2011. Smith Muñiz grew up in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, he played wide receiver and tight end while lettering four times in Sprint football. Still active at his alma mater, Smith Muñiz is past president of Penn’s Association of Latino Alumni. In the off-season, he is an avid cyclist and amateur wildlife photographer who has been to Africa six times and exhibited in art shows three times. He lives in Garrison, N.Y.
