To cultivate a culture of research in the 39 HEIs in the zone;
1.
To promote networks/linkages between research granting agencies and
HEIs for support as well as exchanging and/or sharing of ideas, results,
technologies developed, and experiences;
2.
To initiate faculty members within HEIs into the research process as well as
stimulate and enhance their research capabilities through
training/workshops, mentoring, and collaborative research;
3.
To assist faculty members in undertaking researches responsive to the
program thrust for in-house and/or external (national, international) funding
other than CHED; and,
4.
To complement or fill gaps in the research agenda of allied agencies like
NEDA, DA, and others.

 Region IX or Zamboanga Peninsula
- A total of 11 combined State Colleges and Universities (SCUs)
partnering with private HEIs of Zamboanga del Sur and
Zamboanga del Norte (including the cities of Dipolog, Pagadian,
Dapitan, and Zamboanga itself).
 Region XII or SOCKSARGEN
- Covering 18 SCUs as well as private schools scattered in the
provinces of Sultan Kudarat, North Cotabato, and South
Cotabato, specifically covering the cities of General Santos,
Tacurong, Cotabato, Koronadal, and Kidapawan.
 CARAGA Region
- Comprising 13 both SCUs and private schools from Surigao del
Sur, Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Sur, and Agusan del Norte,
(including the cities of Butuan, Bislig, and Surigao)

Other activities
DSWD Region XII sought assistance of USM-CHED ZRC in developing a research proposal
entitled “An Evaluative Study on the Status of Compliance to Standard of the Local Government
Units in the Province of South Cotabato on Social Welfare and Development Service Delivery
System.” After a series of evaluation and consultations, a final draft of the research proposal was
submitted to DSWD for funding consideration.
The USM CHED-ZRC assisted NEDA Region XII in crafting its research direction and agenda.
USM CHED ZRC was member of the steering and assigned to chair the program, invitation and
paper committees. The following responsibilities were undertaken and accomplished:
- evaluated papers for oral and poster presentation
- prepared program of activities
- identified and invited plenary speakers
- prepared a template for certificate of participation and plaque of appreciation;
- facilitated best paper and poster awards.
National Research and Development Conference with theme “Way Forward for Research and
Development in HEIs”, Grand Regal Hotel , Davao City, attended 125 participants.
