Aloha Dear Patients, Family, and Friends,
As always, before I begin, let me thank the good Lord for another successful issue, and awesome year. You are not going to believe
this one, but KNP has been selected by the Hawaii state library for Historical Preservation. This means that we will be around
forever and ever. We have made history people! Kaulana Na Pua is Hawaii’s first and only medical marijuana newspaper, and
we have been selected for Historical Preservation. This means should you ever want to read a copy or back issue, you can go
the Hawaii state library and it will be made available to you, how cool is that? People of Hawaii and our brothers and sisters in
Washington and Colorado, Hawaii has a licensed medical marijuana population of approx. 13,000, 40% of our population have
either smoked marijuana or use it regularly, and there is an 81% approval rating. We are the voice of this industry, there is no other
newspaper out there folks, we are it! With 40-60% of the population either have smoked or still do smoke, that is several hundred
thousand in the islands alone. People rise up, become pro-active, support your newspaper, support the advertisers by giving them
your business, support the industry, and get your license. KNP is now 2 years old, we are forward thinkers who are used to getting
things done and we expect to be around a very long time. In closing let me say again, KNP needs your support, advertise with us.
Without us, there is no voice. Send us your comments, your pictures, your thoughts, become involved with your newspaper, buy a
subscription or give one to a friend. If you see a copy in the store, take an extra copy to give to someone who might appreciate it. I
can’t stress the fact of how important it is for the people of Hawaii to become involved. Laws are passed this way, there is strength
in numbers. There is no need to be afraid, you are not alone. I urge you to stand up, be counted, be proud, all is well.
May God bless you and your loved ones.
Aloha, A Hui Hou,

Editor’s Note
I have a special request this month, once again, to all of our
readers. As you know, there is a stigma in America regarding
cannabis. The purpose of this newspaper is to bring the truth
about medicinal marijuana, based on new scientific research,
to the people. Every company advertising in our newspaper is
in their own way, stepping up to say, we are here, and we have
the information and products you need. They are making a bold
statement for the strength of the cannabis (420) industry. You
too can help!
My request is this: These Three Steps
1. Please enjoy reading this issue of the newspaper, pay close
attention to the ads, the medical personnel, doctors, and see if
there is a company you recognize or shop at, or want to visit.
2. Select one or several, and make a point to visit the store or
use their service, let them know you found them here, and thank
them for being there for you. They need to know!
This is the only medical marijuana publication in Hawaii. They
need to know their ad is working and that the people care
enough to step up and be heard, also! Write to me (lynn4ihl@
aol.com), let me know which store you went to, or doctor you
visited, or service you used, and tell me what happened. Who
knows, you might be in the next issue, as a story about how you
helped the industry.
Follow these three steps, do your part, share it with me, so I can
share it with the world. Lets come together and make a difference. No more fear!

Roger Christie has a motion before the court on June 13th, 2013
at 10am, for his religious defense. Roger wishes all the readers
best wishes and will continue to keep in touch.
The legislative session ended with only two bills making their
way through, out of 24 that were filed.
Regarding the bills in legislature this sessions, HB668 C.D.1,
changes departments, and SB642 C.D.1, increases legal possession to 4 ounces, and 7 mature plants, and changes the doctors who certify to Primary Care Physicians. This change with
the doctors was made by Senator Josh Green, who insisted
on the change before he would sign the bill. Many oppose this
change to the PCP doctors and say they will fight it to the end.
We are in for some changes to our medical marijuana law but
these changes won’t take affect until 2015. Time to work on
them.
And my heart goes out to Lori Campbell, who is an Acupuncturist advertising on page 12, who is disabled. She has decided
to continue to advertise as a way to support the newspaper.
Mahalo Lori, you rock!!! We wish you well.
In the meantime, we need to move out of the fear based place
we have lived for many years. Eliminate fear from your life, and
remember, thoughts become things! What do you bring to your
life and the world around you?
Mahalo, to every advertiser, for your support!! You make the
paper possible, so please acknowledge how important you are,
we sure do!

Teri Heede
Walk a Mile in My Slippers
Honolulu resident Teri Heede is no stranger to pain. In fact, it’s something
she must deal with every day of her life. In her testimony, “Walk a Mile in
My Slippers,” she talks about living life with Arthritis, Bursitis, GERD, IBS,
Chondromalacia, Migraines, and Multiple Sclerosis. In it she shares with us
her experience with MS and the anguish of trying to treat this debilitating
and incurable disease with modern medicine. Multiple Sclerosis is an autoimmune system disorder in which the body’s own immune system attacks
the nervous system, specifically the myelin sheath that surrounds the
nerves. This internal destruction causes plaques or lesions on the brain,
brain-stem, spinal cord, and optic nerve, which eventually become black
holes. As for Teri, some of her symptoms manifest into vision problems like
chronic optical neuritis, mobility issues and incontinence. There is no known
cure for MS, but doctors often try to treat the disease and the symptoms
with a barrage of disgusting pharmaceuticals that not only don’t help but are
more harmful to the patient than the disease itself. Because there is no cure
and most treatments are poorly tolerated by the patient’s body, the medical
community is constantly trying to find new ways to battle MS and many
patients find themselves feeling like guinea pigs in a desperate search to
find help. Teri herself had enough prescription pills and suppositories to fill
a laundry basket. She eventually graduated to multiple daily injections of
Interferon, but not before extensive and permanent damage to her stomach
lining. She developed “watermelon stomach”, a condition where the stomach
lining resembles a watermelon because the pills have eaten permanent
black holes into it. The damage extends up into the esophagus causing precancerous cells to grow and what is called Barrett’s Esophagus Syndrome.
This is a direct result of ingesting pharmaceuticals, not from Multiple
Sclerosis. It was especially hard for Teri to endure the next set of treatments
in her search for relief. Not just because it involved painful injections three
times a week with bigger and bigger needles, not just because the side
effects became life-threatening and more severe, damaging her liver and
already weak immune system, but because there is “no scientific evidence
to support taking the drug Interferon will delay or improve the symptoms of
MS.”
In “Walk a Mile in My Slippers,” Teri shares how her symptoms were
progressively worsening and that she had “literally fallen down and was
not getting back up.” At that point she had not been able to walk for a year.
Sitting with a grocery bag full of pills and watching her doctor fill out yet
another prescription, Teri closed her medical file and looked him right in the
eye and said, “Let’s talk about marijuana.” The doctor folded his hands on
top of her medical records and said, “Let’s talk.” Within six months of using
cannabis, Teri Heede was walking on her own two feet again and has been
able to ditch the pills, suppositories, and needles and replace them with
bongs, vaporizers, and cookies.
The life-changing realization was that with medical cannabis, Teri had
finally found the miracle medicine that could give her back a huge part
of her life, the sobering reality was just how difficult safely acquiring that
medicine would prove to be. While it may be legal to possess, use, and grow
medicinal cannabis in Hawaii, it is still illegal to buy it. For many people it is
not possible to grow their own medicine either physically or environmentally,
and everyone knows that in this day and age it can be extremely hard to trust
someone else with this kind of responsibility. Knowing these experiences
firsthand and seeing others around her struggle to obtain a legal supply of
medication pushed Teri to become the activist she is today. Teri Heede has
given a lot of her time and energy for the cause.
KAULANA NA PUA
HAWAII
She is a part of the Medical Cannabis Working Group of Hawaii and has taken
a very active role in supporting SB2141 by educating patients and society,
lobbying for medical marijuana in Hawaii, and sharing her story with the world.
Now after extensive use of medical cannabis Teri can walk, move and contribute
to society again. Her most recent MRI shows no further progression of lesions/
black holes, her blood work shows her liver enzymes are returning to normal
and her neurologist swears if that even though she’d been diagnosed with
multiple sclerosis 20 years ago... the neurological exam would not support
it now. With a wink and a smile she says, “Interesting. You see, there is NO
cure for MS!” When asked what she wants the medical marijuana community
of Hawaii to know Teri said, “I know personally how frustrating, intimidating
and frightening it is to come forward. You don’t deserve to have your entire life
judged on this issue but that is how it is. Be BRAVE! Be courageous! Demand
Justice!”
Here at Kaulana Na Pua we hope our readers can take some strength and
inspiration from Teri Heede to share your story. The more people that come
forward with their life-changing stories, the more we can get the word out
there and work together to prove that cannabis is a legitimate and life-giving
medicine. We the People will not tolerate being lied to and deprived of this
cure any longer! If you have a story of how medical cannabis changed
your life, please contact any of our publishers or writers. We want to hear
from you, your story needs to be shared and we are here to be your voice!

CALIfORNIA CORNER
On the morning of April 23, 2013 DEA agents raided the One on One Patients
Association in San Diego, California, seizing cash, marijuana, security cameras
and other equipment. For the last 17 months the local police have been working
with the DEA in an effort to shut down every medical marijuana access point in
San Diego, and One on One was the last permitted dispensary publicly operating
within the city. Kenneth Cole, the owner of One On One Patients Association
who is also battling terminal bone cancer, had testified at a San Diego city
Council meeting in favor of regulating medical marijuana collectives in San
Diego on April 22, the day before his dispensary was raided. “This is retaliation
for yesterday,” Cole said from his home. “This is straight retaliation for the city
Council meeting.” United Patients Alliance, a medical marijuana activist group
in San Diego is urging locals to get down to the Gaslamp District to protest
immediately. Kenneth Cole and One On One Patients Association has prided
themselves on having well-run, legally operated dispensaries, working in full
compliance with state and local authorities, citing his dispensary as a model
business in the medical marijuana industry. Stand up against this outrage!
Colorful Colorado
The 4/20 celebration in Denver was the perfect chance for entrepreneurs to showcase
the new Colorado marijuana tourism industry. Recreational pot tourism is a touchy
subject in Colorado as new laws and tax proposals are coming into play. Currently,
companies that are selling marijuana and marijuana infused food, candy, and tinctures
are still only in the medicinal industry, but many are looking to the recreational side for
a new source of revenue. One of the main arguments has been about taxes, because
there is a fine line between taxing enough to make money and overtaxing current
medicinal businesses right out of the market. Business owners know that there is a
huge sum of money to be made from people coming in from all over the world, but
some people are worried it will take away from the “family” appeal of Colorado. While
state officials are worried about using taxpayer money to promote marijuana tourism,
supporters say that this is clearly a double standard because officials are more than
eager to celebrate alcohol tourism by promoting things like the Annual Great American
Beer Festival.
WASHINGTON STATE
Washington state medical marijuana activists are divided on SB5887, a bill
that would put medical marijuana under regulatory control of the state Liquor
Control Board. Sen. Ann Rivers hopes the bill will close a loophole allowing
people to “sidestep” Initiative 502’s framework for legal recreational pot sales
and buy cheaper bud at medical dispensaries. The bill also allow for a 20%
excise tax on the wholesale of medical marijuana or a 10% tax on the retail
sale of medical marijuana if the grower is also the processor or dispenser.
Under I-502, the state will issue licenses to marijuana growers, processors
and retail stores, at a tax rate of 25% for each stage. If SB5887 is approved,
it would increase the number of patients providers can supply with marijuana
from 10 patients total to 10 patients per day. Some critics are worried that this
proposal as an attempt by bigger, more powerful growers to drive out the little
guys or the local mom-and-pop dispensaries and take over the industry. Don
Pierce of the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs stated that
he believes, “the closer we can bring the medicinal market to 502, we stand
the best chance of avoiding federal intervention.”

Master Grower’s Corner And Strain Review
Hawaii’s Best Kept Secrets Revealed
On the far southern slopes of Hawaii’s Big Island grows a
strain of cannabis known as Kona Gold. Growing in an area
that is known to contain some of the planet’s richest volcanic
soils, along with a perfect tropical climate is what gives this
Sativa dominant strain such a powerful punch. Most first time
users of the Kona Gold strain will usually claim that it must
be laced with something such as opium. Make sure you have
absolutely nothing important to do after you smoke Kona Gold
because this specific breed of cannabis has the tendency to
make you literally forget what you’re doing several times over,
for hours on end. Most users who have been lucky enough to
have actually tried the real Kona Gold strain grown in Hawaii
will tell you that it is one of the absolute most potent strains
you will ever smoke. 90% Sativa and 10% Indica is also what
contributes to the comatose effects typically associated with
the Kona Gold strain. On the inhale, which most users cannot
hold in at all due to how expanding it is, there is a very earthy
and almost patchouli-type flavor. And on the exhale you can
literally taste every part of Hawaii, the rich volcanic soil, the
fresh and salty ocean, and the flavor a fruit basket mix of
almost every tropical fruit and flower that grows in Hawaii. It is
of utmost importance to know that these tasty features can only
be experienced when the Kona Gold strain has been grown in
Hawaii. Several growers have attempted to replicate all of the
true Kona Gold traits by trying to cultivate the strain in grow
rooms, green houses, and outdoor plots on the mainland. But
all these attempts outside of Hawaii came up short on potency,
flavor, and overall effects. The true Kona Gold strain in all of
its glory, when it has been grown in Hawaii, is a real marijuana
connoisseurs dream come true. It is one of those kind of strains
that will literally change your aspect and opinions on cannabis
and it’s potency entirely. Onto the opposite side of Hawaii’s
Big Island grows yet another rare and insanely potent strain
that is called Puna Buddah. Puna Buddah is a very special
Hawaiian strain that the locals have been proudly growing for
generations in what’s called the Puna District. A mostly Sativa
dominant strain that on the inhale has hints of earthy volcanic
soil mixed with what’s best described as the actual taste of a
tropical rain forest. And on the exhale an immediate explosion
of a very smooth and silky butter flavor with hints of papaya
and pineapple. The secret to why Puna Buddah has such an
unmistakable flavor that cannot be replicated anywhere else is
hidden in the mango patches of Puna itself. The Puna District
is renowned for its quality fruit and produce as it is all cultivated
organically in Puna’s famous enriched tropical red volcanic
soils. And the secret to the unmistakable smooth silky butter
flavor of Puna Buddah is how they grow this extremely potent
Sativa. Puna Buddah is truly a strain to behold as yet another

Open Daily: 10am - Midnight testament to the outstanding and amazing potency and quality
of Hawaii’s secret and rare cannabis strains. Hawaii’s most
secret cannabis strain yet is a 100% Sativa that grows on
the island of Molokai and has been secretly kept there until
recently. This secret strain is called Damien and is named
after Father or Saint Damien who was a Roman Catholic priest
that had brought seeds of his very own strain to the island of
Molokai in the late 1800s to aid all of the sick and dying lepers
that were being quarantined there. St. Damien took care of
Molokai’s quarantined lepers for over 16 years until he finally
contracted and died of the same sickness that he came to help.
The people of Molokai still reside, as they used to, in tribes
that live as their ancestors once did. And it is these sacred
and ancient people who are the true keepers and cultivators
of Hawaii’s secret Damien strain. The Damien strain is being
extensively guarded with the intent of keeping it out of the
market of typical seed bank quality strains that are sold on the
open market today. Damien, along with Kona Gold and Puna
Buddah are some of the world’s last remaining true “land race
strains” left today. Damien on the inhale has a very strong taste
of tangerines and passion fruit. And on the exhale a strong
citrus flavor that ends with hints of ginger. The high comes on
extremely fast with a typical lay you out effect. Hawaii contains
a very unique environment that is unlike any climate that can
be found anywhere in the world. This is why Hawaii has always
had such an upstanding reputation for having some of the
utmost medicinal, flavorful, and unique cannabis strains on the
planet.

Hawaii’s First Annual
Cannabis BlueCard Festival
Kahu Umi’a’li’loa Sexton
A Celebration of Life, took place on April 20th, 2013 otherwise known as 4/20 in the industry. The opening ceremony was conducted by our beloved Kahu Umi’a’li’loa
Sexton, a Cultural Practitioner who prayed and blessed
the Day of Celebration (a Hawaiian tradition), while acknowledging Uncle Alfred Kuulianuenue Keliiholokai,
who graced the Premiere Issue of Kaulana Na Pua in
August of 2011, before passing. Uncle worked hard
helping the local Hawaiian patients deal with the ambiguous medical marijuana law that doesn’t recognize
the Hawaiian people who have no state identification,
a requirement to obtain a medical marijuana license in
Hawaii.
The newly formed Norml HI group, founded by Julius
Lanutti, was assisting with the stage, sound equipment,
and DJ work for the day of events. Music was provided
by Guidance Band who filled in all day, keeping the
crowd dancing. Gurardo Velez ripped it on the drums
(famous for playing with Jimi Hendrix), and C.J. Fiya
who rapped the house down. After the crowd begged
them to keep playing, they let it rip with one of his hits
‘I’m Not Normal’. The crowd went nuts, a great time was
had by all.
Prizes that were donated by each of the vendors who
attended, were given away in several drawings throughout the day. Oahu Glass/OG Tubes gifted a huge water
pipe and a glass tobacco pipe, making these winners
ecstatic. Ippuku brought up an E-Cig Kit with Flavored
Oil, this winner couldn’t quit smiling. Other prizes included gourmet cookies from PJ’s Bakery, jewelery, Tshirts, etc. We had two famous food trucks, Laverne’s
and Simply Ono show up to feed the peeps with the
best local food around.
The people who called about the festival and the people
12
who came to the festival all had the same questions.
First, is the doctor who is going to speak here today?
Second, how do we find a doctor who helps us get our
medical marijuana license? And third, how do I get a
medical marijuana license? These three questions are
asked of us, every day. We get calls from patients who
need help and guidance, because the information isn’t
available. The reason for the newspaper, to help the
people get the answers they need. We hope that the
festival was successful in helping some of these patients. We regret to say that the doctor who had committed to speaking at the festival, changed his mind, the
day of the festival. We waited for his confirmation, while
he checked with his attorney to make sure he was legally safe speaking at the festival. We were confirmed
a go after the attorney review, but something happened
during the night that changed the doctors mind, and he
called the day of the festival to cancel. We were extremely disappointed, and it was disheartening to have
to say to the festival attendees that the doctor backed
out at the last minute. They were surprised and saddened, as they all came for that very reason, to see
the doctor, hear him speak and answer their questions.
That was the most disappointing thing of the day, as it
doesn’t fare well with the 420 industry, in fact, it made
it appear unprofessional. Something the industry does
not need.
Although the doctor didn’t show up, the festival was
successful for those that did attend. It was a beautiful day of celebration, in which people came together,
talked story, shared in food and beverage, danced,
heard great music all day, shopped at the various vendors, and won some great prizes.
Some attendees joined Norml HI while they were there,
and met the founder, Julius Lanutti. If you have a desire
to join Norml but didn’t get the chance at the festival,
you can contact Julius at pakalolo50@aol.com. We
need strength in numbers, so becoming a member is
Gurardo Velez
one of the ways in which you can do your part to stand
up and be heard.
Next year, come be a part of the Hawaii Cannabis
BlueCard Festival, help bring light into an industry that
needs to shine brightly. Attend, celebrate your freedom,
dance, speak and be heard, come in large numbers
WITHOUT FEAR!!! We need to break the stigma of
fear that our government has placed in us. Dismiss this
fear and come together to support one another. Maybe
even the doctors will come. I apologize to all of you
who attended with the desire to speak with the doctor. If
you still have questions, please contact us and we will
do the best we can to help get your answers. We are
working on a monthly column with one of our doctors
who assist with medical marijuana licenses. Hopefully
next month, you will see the first column.
One very positive thing that came out of the festival is
a new monthly contributor who is there to answer your
questions and talk story under the mango tree, her
name is Auntie Ruby, read her first column on page 17.
Please feel free to write to Auntie Ruby with anything
you would like to discuss. She will answer your questions and concerns in her monthly column, so watch for
your answers.
I want to reiterate the importance of eliminating fear
from your life regarding your right to medicate. Until we
become brave enough to step up and be seen and be
heard, things will remain the same. That is NOT what
we want! We need to come together, get brave, and
make a difference, do something to help make our right
to medicate a safe and beautiful thing to do. It is your
right and your responsibility! Be Active! Be Pro-Active!

The Continental Divide
Indoor Vs Outdoor
Indoor growing versus outdoor growing has always been a
subject up for extreme debate. This is my experience. I was
able to document over a 16 year period of traveling to over 43
states the differing potencies of cannabis and how the people
who live in these separate locations feel about the quality of
marijuana that they have access to. My documentation first
started in the year of 1997 deep in the Rocky Mountains of
Colorado. I was lucky enough at that exact time in my life to
be introduced to a lady by the name of Lynn. Lynn’s brother
happened to live in Amsterdam and had mailed to her some
very rare Cannabis Cup winning seeds. One early spring
morning Lynn’s brother woke up in his Amsterdam estate to
a 12 person SWAT team with fully automatic assault rifles
pointed at him. The SWAT leader had 2 words for him, “you’re
done.” The federal government had been monitoring Lynn’s
brother for almost 8 years at that point, for illegally importing
cannabis seeds into the US from Amsterdam throughout the
1980’s. Lucky for us Lynn still had several seeds left over
from prior to her brother’s arrest as he was now serving
a 20 year prison sentence. Lynn owned a piece of property
near Colorado Springs that had a large barn. Inside the barn
were hanging several heavy duty grow lamps, along with an
extensive ventilation system, heaters, and several fans blowing
fresh air across a sea of green. Lynn was growing Northern
Lights #1, #2, and #5 from the original genetic line that was
still in existence back then. Everyone that I knew at that time
who was lucky enough to try these rare Northern Lights strains
kept reporting back to me that they had never smoked anything
that potent in their lives. In 1998 I had then decided to start my
travels on the East Coast and slowly work my way to the West.
The mentality regarding marijuana on the East Coast is very
different than what is experienced in the Mid-West and has to
do with their laws regarding marijuana prohibition. From Florida
to Jersey Shore quality green bud was harder to find. It seemed
the Mexican and Columbian cartels were responsible for the
majority of low quality marijuana that was mostly available
along the Eastern seaboard. The cartels grow their marijuana
in massive fields down in Mexico and Columbia and press it
into bricks making it easier to smuggle large amounts across
the border into the US. The marijuana that the Mexican and
Columbian cartels usually produce is premature, full of seeds,
and not manicured, making the majority of the smoke a mostly
leafy product that is harsh and tastes like tobacco, on the
mainland it’s called “shwag.” When people on the East Coast
shared their marijuana with me I always took the opportunity
to ask the person who is supplying the smoke if they know
anything about how or where it was grown. The majority of
people that I interviewed said that they believe that cannabis
that is grown outdoors is very low quality due to the reputation of
Mexican and Columbian herb that was being produced outside.
In turn, making the only quality bud available on the East Coast
mostly indoor. The potency of the indoor cannabis found on
the East Coast was the same basic quality experienced in the
Mid-West. In 1999 I was in the Emerald Triangle in Humboldt
County northern California. Deep in the Redwood forests of
Humboldt County is where things started to get interesting. The
outdoor growers of Humboldt take their work very seriously
as their cannabis is grown using ancient techniques that have
been passed down directly from the local Native Americans
that once used to thrive in these remote areas of Northern
California. The dedication to these ancient Native American
techniques is what gives Humboldt County its reputation for
producing some of the best quality cannabis known to exist in
the United States. As I interviewed several outdoor Humboldt
growers I asked many of them how they feel about cannabis
that is produced indoors. The response that I got from the
majority of them literally stunned me as they all started to laugh
at me for even suggesting that a grow room could even possibly
produce anything remotely close to what they grow outside in
Humboldt. Myself, coming from a location where I was used
to mostly indoor, I had learned a valuable lesson about the
difference between quality and potency in outdoor cannabis.
On the West Coast from Humboldt up through Oregon and
into Washington there is ample quantity of very high quality
outdoor cannabis available. And due to this the majority of
actual growers on the West Coast, not the consumers, believe
that indoor marijuana can only produce B grade compared to
outdoor or greenhouse grown A grade quality. After spending
a lot of time in Humboldt County California learning to grow
outdoors, in 2003 I was given the opportunity to expand my
horizons. I was able to fly out to the Big Island of Hawaii to
take care of my sick mother. Living in Hawaii, I soon learned
that the Hawaiian people also use ancient secret techniques
that have been passed down through many generations to
produce Hawaii’s finest. To give validity to the last 16 years
of interviewing people across the United States regarding how
they feel about quality cannabis, I had decided to take some of
Hawaii’s rarest and most potent strains back to the mainland to
then document the exact reactions of all the people who were
lucky enough to sample them. And the results will literally shock
you due to the many mixed reactions that people had towards
trying their first Hawaiian bud. Not one person was able to hold
in any of their hits no matter how hard they tried due to how
expanding the smoke is. 60% of the extremely experienced
smokers and growers that I had shared my Hawaiian bud with
on the West Coast responded honestly with a big hug and an
explanation of how that is “absolutely the best smoke they have
ever tried in their lives.” Also this 60% reported that they had
stayed completely stoned out of their minds for over 4 hours off
of only 3 hits, which they had never experienced from any other
kind of cannabis before. The other 40% who’s reactions were
mostly all the same, responded in such a way that it actually
revealed a hidden “Pot Snob” type psychosis that exists among
the many pot smokers in America today.
They believe that contrary to the fact that they have never
traveled outside of the areas where they have lived for their
entire lives, there is no such thing as better quality cannabis
than the indoor that they have access to. This percentage who
sampled my Hawaiian grown cannabis and live in areas where
KAULANA NA PUA
HAWAII
CALIFORNIA
indoor cannabis is the only thing available would suddenly
become extremely angry at me for even sharing my Hawaiian
strain buds with them. When I asked these people why they
always felt intrigued to become so negative towards me after
they had sampled my Hawaiian, most of them responded to
that question by trying to convince me that they smoke better
quality than anyone else and that’s all there is to it. I would then
explain to these offensive “pot snobs” that I wasn’t trying to
prove that I smoke better weed than them, I was simply trying to
make a documentary based off of their opinion. I could clearly
see that depending upon the location, most “pot snobs” have
developed their beliefs out of fear of not having the best bud. I
sampled what the majority thought was better quality cannabis
and noticed some immediate differences between their indoor
vs my Hawaiian outdoor. I noticed that you can indeed get
extremely stoned off of typical indoor grown cannabis, but I also
noticed that no matter how much of any given indoor strain I
smoke, the high doesn’t ever last very long like it does with the
common outdoor grown Humboldt and Hawaiian strains. I was
also able to clearly document that most growers prefer outdoor
cannabis over indoor, if the environment is available, and
that the consumers who don’t know anything about growing
cannabis believe that indoor is better than outdoor. Indoor
vs. outdoor? Can man be better than nature? The truth is, it
depends what you’re working with. If you live in the desert or
snow, please, get the right organic products and go with indoor,
if you live in the tropics or the mountains, please, please go
with outdoor- nature will nurture her better than we can. In the
end no matter what you do, if you give the plant love it will love
you back.

ELEBRATION PIPES marks 40th anniversary with
ICTORY GREEN
IN 1973, Richard Nixon was just sworn into his second term. The Vietnam War was still
raging after 10 years of American involvement. Gas was $0.38 /gallon. Gold was $110/oz.
and CELEBRATION PIPES were fi rst created on Laie Point, Oahu as stocking stuffers for
Christmas presents…what fi ner sacramental vessel for the herb than a golden bowl?
Here we are 40 years later in 2013 and there are
DOZENS of states that are either legal (HOORAY for
COLORA DO & WASHINGTON) or medicinal with
DOZENS more seeking sanity from PROHIBITION.
Baby boomers suffer from all the classic aging symptoms
and seek relief with the herb. CELEBRATION PIPES
are still being made one at a time by the same craftsman
with the same Gold that now costs $1,600 / oz. and the
40th anniversary pipe is VICTORY GREEN.
Each LAVASTONEWAR E piece is still handcrafted
by DaPiper from his unique ceramic composite, fi red to
2,300 degrees Fahrenheit, then meticulously plated in 22
Kt. Gold to reflect the heat and provide the fi nest burn
and smoothest delivery of any pipe on the planet. The
bowls exterior is plated in Gold, Platinum, Opal, Black
Coral, Purple Haze, Hanalei Blue, or Rastafi re and now
VICTORY GREEN. Each pipe is encased in a velvet bag
and presented in a custom gift box with a Certificate of
Authenticity, signed and numbered.
Over the years, CELEBR ATION PIPES have
been commissioned to create pieces that are in the

Come Visit with
Auntie Ruby Under
the Mango Tree
Aloha kakahiaka, come, come and join me
for breakfast.
We are having fresh brewed
Louisiana French Roast coffee with chicory. Yes,
my husband sent for them when they offered free
shipping. It tastes so ono with Amaretto coffee
creamer, any creamer on sale will do. You like
it? How about a little breakfast brown n serve
pork sausages with homemade red potato hash
browns? Yes, Auntie hand grated these potatoes
and cooked with pure butter. Auntie never use
margarine because of all the rubbish they put
in to make it taste like butter. So why not use
the real deal, butter is good for you, like when
you take your medical cannabis, never use that
synthetic stuff. Try to use all natural ingredients
as much as you can, and maybe you live as long
as I have. What nature gives us is for all to enjoy.
I still remember the first time I made hash browns
from scratch. It tasted totally different from the
frozen stuff that only profits big businesses
owned by Mit Romney and the likes of him who
make money by controlling certain food supplies
that hike up our normal food prices. Buy bulk
from Costco or Sam’s Club to escape paying
$1.75 for a pound of potato. We seniors will not
survive too long paying so much.
After you grate the potatoes (2 per person),
heat up the frying pan for 2 minutes. For 2
potatoes, melt 1 tsp. of butter for 1 minute, use
non-stick frypan if you have one. Spread out
grated potatoes in melted butter in separated
portions, sprinkle desired amount of salt and
pepper on potatoes, cover and cook in mediumhigh temperature for 5 minutes. Turn them over
and cook the other side for another 5 minutes
and you have the best natural high potato hash
browns.
When you see Auntie sitting on the front porch
please come and have a cup of aloha and talk
story with anybody here. We are all one family
enjoying our stay on this planet until it’s time
for us to move on. Of course you can tell me
what’s on your mind too. Anything, anything at
all, let’s have an open forum for ourselves and
whosoever wants to read about us. If you have
any questions, we will do research for you to get
the best information we can, or we will ask our
readers to help with anything that stumped us.
Just send your questions or ideas in to Buddy
and we will go from there.
My idea is to use this column for sharing
information that will enhance our living conditions.
There are no requirements and/or limitations on
what to share. If other people did not share with
me, I would be blind right now and have to write
by braille. For over 20 years I have been seeing
the same eye doctor every 6 months. About 6
years ago he informed me that he suspected I
was developing Glaucoma. He said he was
not sure so he wanted to put me on watch
and increase the frequency of my checkups to
every 2 months. During this time my eyesight
deteriorated at such an alarming rate that I
started to ask around about this Glaucoma thing.
Every person at that time told me that medical
cannabis will help. So I asked this eye doctor
for a prescription for medical marijuana. He told
me that he should turn me over his knees and
spank me for asking to get such a prescription.
I immediately backed off thinking that he might
be kinky about old ladies, spanking yet!!!! I then
proceeded to asked all the doctors that provide
my health care requirements (7). Only one of
them bothered to explain to me that personally
he did not object to such treatment, but the Feds
had called a bunch of doctors like him into a
meeting, and told them that if they fool around
with such prescriptions for their patients, then the
Feds will get after those doctors. He then said
he has a family to think about, and that he must
decline my request. OK, I could deal with that.
Lucky for me one day I sat next to a blind old
lady on the Bus. I started a conversation with
her. She was very open about her condition
and suggested very strongly that I should
see an Ophthalmologist for further Glaucoma
evaluations. I was so impressed by this old
lady’s openness and helpful suggestion that I
started looking for a younger Ophthalmologist
because I was not going to take a chance with
some stone age quack that would want to spank
me. No like spanking.
Since I have been receiving excellent health care
services at Queen’s Medical Center I called their
referral service and the person there suggested
KAULANA NA PUA
HAWAII
CALIFORNIA
that Dr. Gregory G. Schmidt fit the description.
To make a long story short, upon the first visit
with Dr. Schmidt he immediately confirmed that
I do have Glaucoma and gave me a prescription
for 3 month supply of Latanoprost eye drop, 1
drop per eye at bedtime. To my surprise the very
next morning after the first use my eyes could
see clearly. So now I am a believer right? I
persisted in asking Dr. Schmidt for a Cannabis
prescription, he then told me that he does not
believe in the use of cannabis to treat Glaucoma
and he cannot find the name and phone number
of a doctor that does.
Resigning to buy on the street, something I
am afraid of, I waited for my contacts to get it
illegally and not having much luck. One day at
the bus stop by the Fat Greek restaurant I met
a nice young man. He told me that there is a
Dr. Greenly nearby that will help me get a permit
to obtain medical marijuana. I found Dr. Gary
Greenly’s phone number in the book and made
an appointment. By the time I showed up for my
appointment, his office had already obtained my
medical records from Dr. Schmidt confirming that
I do have Glaucoma. All I had to do was to fill
out some forms for him to submit to the State of
Hawaii, Department of Public Safety, Narcotics
Enforcement Division with a $25 cashier’s check.
2 weeks later my Medical Marijuana Registry
Patient Identification Certificate was mailed to Dr.
Greenly’s office.
On my way home after having Starbucks coffee
one morning I stopped by Hawaii’s Natural High
and was given a free copy of Kaulana Na Pua
newspaper (free). Here I am talking stories with
all of you, in this new monthly column.
Thank you for your visit. Don’t forget to stop by
again. We’ll talk stories next month and share.
Tonight we are going to the Corner Kitchen on
Kapahulu to see Dennis Kamakahi and son
Kawika perform. Won’t have to write a review on
that because you all know they are great. They
will have 2 more performances on April 30 and
May 3. The food at the Corner Kitchen is ono
and the price is right, no minimum, dress casual,
shorts and T’s are OK. Monday, April //29 we
will hear Kevin Coleman and his Flat Five Blues
Band are playing at the Hot Rock Café. They are
at On Stage Kapahulu every Wednesday night,
call owner/bartender Dave Young for specifics.
Aloha no….. come again soon.
