Ruth Rales Jewish Family Service of South Palm Beach County Making A Difference in People’s Lives Annual Report 2007 Architect Randall Stofft & Dr. Jaclynn Faffer Architect’s rendering The Future is Now! We are building a new senior/social service center in Delray Beach! Thanks to a grant of $2 million from the state, we now have the seed money to build a 20,000 square foot building near Temple Anshei Shalom on Atlantic Avenue, west of Jog Road. To meet the ever increasing needs of our community, our new building will house: n Expanded Forster Family Kosher Food Pantry n Congregate Kosher meal site n Counseling n Support groups n The Welcome Home drop-in center for chronically mentally ill adults n Holocaust survivor services n …And a café for bagels and schmoozing! Dr. Ronald Selbst, President Dr. Jaclynn Faffer, CEO Message From CEO & President September 1, 2006 through August 31, 2007 was a year of growth and excitement for Ruth Rales Jewish Family Service (RRJFS). RRJFS was the recipient of a three year contract from the Area Agency on Aging, in the amount of $1.7 million for each of the three years, naming us as the lead agency serving seniors in south Palm Beach County. Being awarded this contract underscores the community’s confidence in us to continue to serve the most vulnerable elderly in our service area— no matter how adverse the circumstances. Our scope of services expanded dramatically and we were delighted to form new alliances and creatively collaborate with organizations ranging from area schools, nursing homes, foundations and home health care agencies. Inter-generational programs enable us to combine our service delivery expertise in the areas of teens and seniors. Through a grant from The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties, we are able to expand our successful Teen Connect program and match teens from Olympic Heights High School in Boca Raton with seniors at area assisted living facilities. We were also recognized for our high quality services when Caridad Center asked to to develop their mental health counseling program. Thanks to funding from Hands on Tzedakah, we placed a Spanish-speaking social worker at the Caridad Center, to counsel migrant workers. We also want to express our gratitude to an anonymous contributor, whose generous donation will pay for full fellowships to train master of social work students to be the future leaders of agencies like our own. We are working closely with the Wurzweiler School of Social Work at Yeshiva University in New York, to develop the RRJFS South Florida Fellowship for Social Work Excellence. By the year’s end we had acquired land in west Delray Beach, near Temple Anshei Shalom, to build a 20,000-square-foot senior center. You can see the architect’s beautiful rendering on the facing page. What a way to end an exhilarating year! Of course, none of these exciting projects would have been possible without the extraordinary support of many individual, corporate, community and governmental donors who enabled us to reach this new level. We must express a special “thank you” to our community partners, the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County, the Area Agency on Aging, the Children’s Services Council and United Way for their continuing support. Together, they all allow us to fulfill our mission and pledge to strengthen our commitment to the 35,000 clients we serve annually. Every day, through your help, we are making a difference in people’s lives. Thank you. M a k i n g A D i ff e r e n c e i n P e o p l e ’ s L i v e s 1 Rep. Robert Wexler Rep. Ron Klein State Sen.
