Rhona Ní Chearbhaill joins Lehman College for the 2012-
2013 academic year as a Visiting Professor of Irish. She is a
Ph.D. candidate at St. Patrick’s College, Dromcondra. She holds a B.A. and M.A. in Irish as well as an H.Dip. in Education and Applied Communication. She will be teaching our advanced course focusing on Máirtín Ó Cadhain’s masterpiece, Cré na Cille. This course is scheduled for Monday evenings at the CUNY Graduate Center. She will also be teaching elementary courses at the Aisling Ctr., Lehman
Coll., and Manhattan Coll. Rhona’s family is from An
Cheathrú Rua, in the Co. Galway Gaeltacht.
Muireann Ní Chuív joins Lehman College for her first semester as an Adjunct Lecturer in Irish. She holds a BA in
Celtic Studies from the National University of Ireland,
Galway, as well as a H.Dip. in Translation Studies. She was additionally awarded a masters in Early Irish from Trinity
College Dublin. Muireann lives in the Bronx and works as a translator and teaches at the Irish Arts Center as well. She will be teaching intermediate level conversation at Lehman on Tuesday evenings. Muireann is from Indreabhán, in the
Co. Galway Gaeltacht.
Tomás Ó h-Íde has been teaching at Lehman College since
2000 and is Associate Professor of Irish and Chair of the
Department of Languages and Literatures. He was awarded a masters and doctorate from Trinity College Dublin in Applied Linguistics. He also successfully sat the exam for the
Diploma in Irish at NUI-Galway. Tomás is the primary author of two books, The Irish Language in the United States and Colloquial Irish . He will be teaching Irish Language
Cinema at Lehman College on Monday afternoons as well as elementary classes at Queens College. Tomás was born in
Essex County, New Jersey, where he still lives.
